Very moving dedication to your grandfather, Arnaud. It was Goethe who stated (in 'Wahlverwandtschaften') that in the chain of generations impulses often overleap the following generation and have effect on the after next. With other words: we receive our attractions and repulsions from our grandparents and forward them to our grandchildren - in many cases at least. Re: [meteorite-list] Opinions please
Imho, the surface looks a bit like a weathered iron meteorite with iron shale, no stone meteorite weathers in a thick crust like that. But it isn't magnetic and the weight (shipping weight 3 pounds) is too little to be made out of solid iron. That rules out any meteoritic origin. My guess is a normal rock with a crust of iron oxides or carbonates and I would not even pay postage for it if I got the stone for free. /Göran Warren Sansoucie wrote: Hello list, I am concerned as to why no picture of the broken end of this specimen is available and the fact that it's described as non magnetic. http://cgi.ebay.com/Meteorite-Estate-Sale-Beautiful-Specimen-845g-/310231263035?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item483b39673b Have a great weekend everyone!
