[meteorite-list] ADVERT / Governador Valadares & New Shergottite
Hi, GOVERNADOR VALADARES A small specimen of GV (0.205g) with one edge of glossy fusion crust(!) is now on eBay. XTREMELY rare. Offering ends in several days. NEW MARTIAN SPECIMENS FROM THE TATA FOUMZGIT(?) EVENT I've added about a eight new specimens to the Macovich site. After I sell these specimens I will be temporarily out of material---apart from some small sub-gram specimens and a couple of larger specimens I'm now holding onto. Ranging in price from $375 - 800 per gram (the latter being a complete specimen that weighs less than a gram), here are some outstanding examples of the new shergottite offered to you at prices which will soon be a distant memory. The $375/g fragmentsmake that $350/g if you mention you saw it heremy last two! http://www.macovich.com VANITY MARS Anyone who has a preference for the letter "E" (or depending upon your perspectivethe letter "M" or "W"or the number "3") should have an especial interest in this SNC, as its shock veins and crust evoke these referenced characters. Couldn't resist the "ET" in recognition of my pala convalescing purveyor of meteorite baseball caps and more. http://www.macovich.com/MARS/Tata_22.94g_LR_5207.html All the best / Darryl __ HAPPY HOLIDAYS!! Re: [meteorite-list] Jetty Armstrong's Latest
The *mad* King Ludwig, if I remember correctly, Matthius. ;^) We visited Schloss Neuschwanstein 20 years ago. Amazing castle in an exceptionally beautiful setting. The line was so long, we couldn't tour the interior, but we had a great time just enjoying the grounds. Next time, for sure... [meteorite-list] MRO HiRISE Images - January 11, 2012
MARS RECONNAISSANCE ORBITER HIRISE IMAGES January 11, 2012 o Banded Wall Outcrop in Ius Chasma http://hirise.lpl.arizona.edu/ESP_024361_1735 This was thought to be an important area for the development of some post-Viking views of Mars. o Aram Chaos http://hirise.lpl.arizona.edu/ESP_024398_1835 This would be an interesting area to explore and to send a rover, because we think that water might have existed in the underground as ice. o Search for Beagle 2 Lander http://hirise.lpl.arizona.edu/ESP_024618_1920 This is the twelfth image from HiRISE in the part of Isidis basin where the British Beagle 2 spacecraft was supposed to land around Christmas time of 2003. o Defrosting Barchan Dunes http://hirise.lpl.arizona.edu/ESP_025118_2570 Barchan dunes form by winds blowing mainly in one direction and thus are good indicators of the dominant wind direction when the dunes formed. All of the HiRISE images are archived here: http://hirise.lpl.arizona.edu/ Information about the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter is online at http://www.nasa.gov/mro. The mission is managed by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a division of the California Institute of Technology, for the NASA Science Mission Directorate, Washington, D.C. Lockheed Martin Space Systems, of Denver, is the prime contractor and built the spacecraft. HiRISE is operated by the University of Arizona. Ball Aerospace and Technologies Corp., of Boulder, Colo., built the HiRISE instrument. __ HAPPY HOLIDAYS!! [meteorite-list] Tucson Page Update
Aloha and thanks to everyone who has taken the time to submit your visit information for the upcoming Tucson show. I have updated the documents to include all entries submitted to date. Please keep the following in mind when registering: 1. Please only check the dealer box if you are an official dealer who is selling in a room. 2. If you are staying in a motel or the similar with multiple locations in the area, it would be helpful if you could include the street name so that when I sort the lists, they group properly. (e.g. if you are staying at a Motel 6, please be specific, such as "Motel 6, Ina Rd."). Of course, listing your hotel information is completely optional to begin with, but details help sorting). 3. Entries do not automatically populate into the PDF documents. I manually enter them with the information submitted. At this point in time I am updating the list every 24-48 hours as time permits, in and around my work schedule. Three PDF documents for easy printing are available: 1. All attendees (visitors & dealers) sorted by location (hotel) 2. All attendees (visitors & dealers) sorted by last name 3. Official dealers sorted by location (hotel) and room number Taking a suggestion from a list member, in the future I will add a document with hotel and public event details. You can see the documents and register here: http://www.meteoritetreasures.com/tucson2012/ Aloha, Matthew Martin Meteorite Treasures P.O. [meteorite-list] Fireball Radar Image?
Since it's near my locale, I was interested in the fireball reported near Wisconsin on Jan 2nd. More info here: http://lunarmeteoritehunters.blogspot.com/2012/01/ia-wi-mn-meteor-fireball-2jan2012.html. I found some archived nexrad data that seems to show a debris trail at the correct time: http://vortex.plymouth.edu/gen_nids.cgi?ident=ARX&pl=dhr&yy=2012&mm=01&dd=02&hh=14&nn=00&size=1280x960&loop=yes2&zoom=.173¢er= The radar image is in the general direction of the fireball as caught by Tim Cline's all sky camera: http://www.timcline.org/meteors/meteors_night_sky_cam_2012.php Any thoughts??
