I love how the Merritt Herald newspaper article,
http://www.merrittherald.com/news/166428806.html, says "Most meteorites are
valued at about $800 per gram." I have a 2974g NWA515 L6 and a 2594g NWA527 L5
I'd be more than happy to sell at $800 a gram so I can retire.

An unusual-loooking rock glistened from beneath about four feet of water,
resting above other rocks that were covered with algae.
“I think that if this rock were here for a while, it would have also been

2012-08-16 Thread Adam Hupe
Sounds just as reasonable as the $2.3 million dollar price tag. Either the U.S.
dollar is weak, the price includes a buyers premium or there is a run on
Jasper.  At $800.00/gram, I think we are seeing the next market bubble.

Luckily dreams are free!

Happy Hunting,

OK, okhere's what happened:

Eon's ago a meteorite slams into the Duluth, Minn. area knocking this piece
of jasper back towards Mars at the reciprocal angle of 180 degrees. As luck
and timing would have it, said piece of jasper lands back on Mars. Again, as
luck would have it the jetisoned rocket-pack of Curiosity strikes this piece
and sends it into the Martian atmosphere where it finds a worm hole and
hypersonically finds its way right to the honey hole of this lucky sole.
Simple.

[meteorite-list] Mars Rover Opportunity Update - August 08-14, 2012

2012-08-16 Thread Ron Baalke

http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status.html#opportunity

OPPORTUNITY UPDATE: Opportunity is on the Move Again! -
sols 3036-3042, August 08-14, 2012:

Opportunity is on the move again at the north end of Cape York on the
rim of Endeavour Crater.

On Sols 3036 and 3037 (Aug. 8 and 9, 2012), the rover completed a set of
Alpha Particle X-ray Spectrometer (APXS) measurements on a surface
target, called "Rushall_1." With the APXS integrations done, Opportunity
swung the robotic arm out of the way so detailed Panoramic Camera
(Pancam) images could be taken on Sol 3039 (Aug. 11, 2012). On the next
sol, the rover drove south with a 90-feet (27.5-meter) drive toward the
small impact crater, called "Sao Rafael." With "drive-by" imaging of the
crater complete, Opportunity drove again on Sol 3042 (Aug. 14, 2012),
with a 128-feet (39-meter) drive toward another small impact crater,
called "Berrio." The rover also had enough energy on that sol to collect
an atmospheric argon measurement with the APXS.

As of Sol 3042 (Aug. 14, 2012), the solar array energy production was
545 watt-hours with an atmospheric opacity (Tau) of 0.564 and a solar
array dust factor of 0.688.

Total odometry is 21.57 miles (34,705.88 meters).

Hello Listers

Came across this article today about some guy finding a meteorite that
could be worth 2.3 million . If only it was that easy, well with some
hunters it is :) but me being a city boy, I think it would be hard for me
to go look for a meteorite on Park Ave or 5 ave lol :)

Down below is an abstract from the article and the link.

Man claims he found meteorite near Merritt
A prospector who was panning for gold alongside the Coldwater River last
month came across something he believes is not of this world.
An unusual-loooking rock glistened from beneath about four feet of water,
resting above other rocks that were covered with algae.
“I think that if this rock were here for a while, it would have also been
covered with algae,” Arnold Dyson, a former miner and prospector, said of
his July 8 discovery.

He said with “99 per cent certainty” that this rock is a meteorite.

[meteorite-list] NASA to Host Curiosity Rover Teleconference Aug. 17

NASA to Host Curiosity Rover Teleconference Aug. 17
Jet Propulsion Laboratory
August 16, 2012

PASADENA, Calif. -- NASA will host a media teleconference at 10:30 a.m.
PDT (1:30 p.m. EDT), Friday, Aug. 17, to provide a status update on the
Curiosity rover's mission to Mars' Gale Crater.

Mission controllers at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena,
Calif., are checking out Curiosity's subsystems and 10 instruments.
Curiosity is in the opening days of a two-year mission to investigate
whether conditions have been favorable for microbial life and preserving
clues in the rocks about possible past life.

Mission team members are "living" on Mars time. A Martian day is
approximately 40 minutes longer than an Earth day, meaning team members
start their shift 40 minutes later each day. The scheduling of this
teleconference and other Curiosity media events is determined by their
availability.

Audio of the event will be streamed live online at:
http://www.nasa.gov/newsaudio .

Visuals will be available at the start of the teleconference at:
http://go.nasa.gov/curiositytelecon .

For more information about NASA's Curiosity mission, visit:
http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/msl .

Jim a close and good friend, now for over four years.  We spent daily skype
telephone calls sometimes lasting 8-10 hours!  He was a very smart man with
extreme motivation and skills.  He will be sadly missed.

For some reason my link got cut off. His eBay name is 805skp. He is
selling fake Martians and many more. Looks at his seller’s feedback, there
was already one complaint selling what appears to be a fake fossil. The
meteorites are blatant fakes, not just an honest mistake.

I am sorry Mendy, your warning is probably very important, but rather
cryptic.

Can you be a bit more specific?
