Oh my...too many issues to think about, fast. Indeed here we also do follow their wanderings in the cold Antarctic deserts with a strange mix if anxious and pleasent feelings and we enjoy so much their extraordinary findings. I foresee a superb and very original exhibit of cold wonders in Ensisheim soon. And what a lecture in perspective! You can't miss this! The other mistake I want to correct is the name of Vinciane, one of the important leading members of the Antarctic expedition. Her family name is well DEBAILLE, not Debienne. NEWS (January 26, 2013) Dear meteorite friends Meteorite-Central List Please find here the preliminary news concerning the 14th edition of our meteorite show ?Ensisheim-Meteorite 2013?, expecting this will reach you in time before you start the next ?Tucson blast? where most of you who live ?overseas? (and from the vast world as well) will gather soon. This info completes the official flyer that will be ready in a couple of weeks and that I will be glad to forward you individually, upon request. Further show details will be also sent to the List in a couple of months, as every year. Here are just the main changes useful for those wishing to book tables and foresee specific arrangements. SHOW DATES: Saturday June 22 (9:30-18:00) and Sunday June 23 (9:30-16:00), 2012 (the weekend preceding the ?Mineral Gem? show that is held in Ste Marie-aux-Mines, relatively nearby (~ 80 km), with Friday June 21 as the ?dealer?s day?). SHOW LOCATION: Exceptionally this year, THE SHOW LOCATION MUST BE CHANGED! Indeed, the famous Regency Palace which is the usual and unavoidable place to set the show, is subject to heavy works that unfortunately will not be completed by the due date. While the external buildings are expected to be reconditioned, the interior halls will by no means be accessible in June: all the rooms and corridors will be restored and repainted while an elevator (lift) will be built so as to facilitate the rise and handling of your heavy meteorite boxes in future. (Hey, never worry, the famous medieval spiral staircase will stay untouched). Naturally in 2014, for the 15th Anniversary of the show coinciding with the 30th Anniversary of the Confraternity of Guardians creation, a brand renovated Regency Palace will welcome you again! For 2013 (only) we have obtained another separate building called ?FOYER St MARTIN?, which is located quite close (about 350 m) to the Regency palace, and just separated from the ?Domaine du Moulin? hotel by the main street (distance ~150 m). You can find the place, the building picture and the access map in the following link: http://www.jds.fr/agenda/manifestations/expo-bourse-aux-meteorites-2013-a-ensisheim-53539_A The ?Foyer? consists in one large 18.6 x 12 meter room, resembling the Regency main hall, though larger.
Re: [meteorite-list] . Re: Advert / NWA 7397 (MARS) ONLY $200/g
5-6 kilos, at least we cleared that up, the fact that there were many more pieces found. $200 gram is extraordinary price. Of course, quality and condition is important. If you want fresh black crust instead of kitty-litter, it may cost a tad more:) I agree, load up the truck at that price. [meteorite-list] [Ad] Kentland Quench Melt, 100% PERFECT Kentland Shattercone, Breccia, and more for sale on eBay!
Happy Monday Everyone, Today I have the great pleasure of introducing some spectacular material to the community that in part comes from my personal collection as well as material collected on my most recent visit to the Kentland Crater in Kenltand, Indiana. If you do not care to read my rambling about the specimens I have, feel free to go directly to the eBay link, as the pictures speak volumes for themselves :-) Firstly, I have been asked numerous times whether in all my trips to Kentland, whether I have found a 100% perfect shattercone fully intact from bottom to apex. The answer is yes, and I would like to make one very rare and special specimen available to the masses, in such a form that is worthy of any museum or collector, which demands the best of the best. This specimen has got it all, and I mean to the “T”. It is a 100% perfect cone, preserved in very fresh limestone, has beautifully detailed striations, and the cherry on top….It has dual orientation! 1. The specimen weighs 435.5 grams and stands on its own in a position very indicative of its natural position when found in the field. As I said, if you demand the best of the best, look no further. I only have a few cones such as this, and they will never leave my collection. This is a rare opportunity, and worth having a look for sure. - http://tinyurl.com/c4qdmmo Next, and just as awesome (to me at least) is a new highly altered material I found at Kentland my last trip after having searched for two straight days. It appears to show a matrix the result of some serious heat induced plastic flow, which formed a dike with clast of a breccia from a zone below of what looked to be a brecciated basement material and a layer of semi-course polymict breccias just above. The exposure was quite weathered at the surface so after much digging I was able to collect some very stable pieces. 2. This endcut weighs 803g and has been cut, sanded, and polished to reveal a matrix that reveals breccias clast floating and stretching to create shapes reminiscent of a tadpole in its earliest of stages, as the clast are stretched and melted. - http://tinyurl.com/cqchyup Now this is a cool stone, even in its small form. It appears to be a quench material with amazing long quench xtals that are oriented from a common surface. On the backside, the piece shows very large T variation common to shocked rocks. Additionally, on the outer most surface of the green melt, is a vesicular foamy black melt material. As if all that wasn’t enough, there are also metal inclusions seen on the uncut portion which have left oxide stains, the metal of which has not yet been tested to prove iron. 3. The specimen weighs 51.8 grams, and is the rarest of the materials I have found thus far at the Kentland site. This is an extra special pieces, the other half of which, I have in my personal collection. You may never see something like this again from this site, or any, so if impactites are you fancy, this is the unrivaled cream of the crop! - http://tinyurl.com/cwprl6x There are other very nice impactites listed, but for readings sake, I will let you discover those for yourself when taking a look at my offerings. I appreciate the consideration, and if you have made it this far in reading, my hat is off to you :-) I combine shipping on all orders as well! Have a good week and happy hunting to everyone! [meteorite-list] AD SM30 magnetic susceptometer for sale
Hello, I'm selling a SM30 magnetic susceptometer in excellent condition. Never used on the field, only a few times in my room to study some stones. For those who don't know, it's a portable device which helps you determine which kind of meteorite you have. After some measurements, you have to enter several datas in an Excel spreadheet, including density, log(x) data given by the SM30. Then you've got a result that you can compare with an abacus. Here are some websites who explain how the SM30 can be useful for the meteorite hunter : http://www.caillou-noir.com/magnetic-susceptibility_SM30.htm I wrote an article in Meteorite Magazine in february 2008 also if you want to read a user review. Price including shipment worldwide (freight with tracking and insurance) : 1000 euros or equivalent in dollars (about US$ 1340). It's sold with case and notice, also including Excel spreadsheet Kind regards, Pierre-Marie Pelé Meteor-Center Météorites : achat - vente - expertise - expéditions - recherche http://www.meteor-center.com IMCA 3360 __ Visit the Archives at http://www.meteorite-list-archives.com Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list

Re: [meteorite-list] Geological Survey of Canada fails to return piece of meteorite he discovered
Hi Ed and List, I am a bit confused here. I didn't see the name of the meteorite mentioned in the article, only that it was found in the Yukon in 1986. Is this an unclassified fall or find? Also, a $1000 payout for a 243g meteorite works out to a mere $4/g - which is pretty good for a highly-weathered ordinary chondrite find. But a fresher, recent fall should fetch more than that. Lastly, the guy sounds like some sort of conspiracy nut who claimed GSC switched out his meteorite and gave him an imposter in return. Then he demanded $12 million in damages, which was denied. BTW - is the $1000 award tax-free?
