[meteorite-list] AD: Large Chelyabinsk

2013-07-27 Thread Jason Phillips
Hello List,
I am selling a museum quality specimen of Chelyabinsk, one of the
greatest falls in the history of meteorites. As you have seen,
specimens over 500 grams are almost non-existent, especially those
that contain the dual lithology (IMB and LL5 chondrite material) that
is so beautiful in slice form. This specimen appears to contain the
dual lithology, and weighs in at 510 grams with ~98% crust (primary
and secondary). The documentation supporting this find is historic
and will only add to the long term value of this specimen.
Accompanying this specimen is a copy of the original letter from the
finder, the exact coordinates of this find (which is very rare for
this fall), and shipping paperwork. The find coordinates have been
submitted to Svend Buhl for submission into his wonderful work on the
Chelyabinsk fall, and buyer's name will also be given to Svend for
this find. If the buyer chooses to make slices, these would most
likely be the largest slices on the market, therefore commanding a
true premium. I am open to discussions on this specimen, but I am
confident in saying this piece is available for the lowest price
offered on the open market, as far as I have been able to see, and the
documentation is outstanding. Please contact me with any questions,
and enjoy the photos.

Re: [meteorite-list] It may look serpentinite from Mars?

2013-07-27 Thread Aleksandr

Hello Richard. In 2009, the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter device found in the
Nili Fossae (and in the other two areas) deposits of the mineral serpentine, ie
a large number of rocks exposed Serpentinization, water changes as you rightly
pointed out. Many breeds of Mars have their analogues in the world: for example
chassagnite it dunite. I wanted to know if we have the analogues of possible
serpentinite, how can they look (need photos in the first place in the context
of stone). On the Internet a lot of pictures of serpentinite, they are all
different, some mineral pattern on the thin section might fit the Martian I
still find it difficult to answer. All the same, thank you for your reply.

Hello Alek!
If serpentine, then aqueous alteration is definitely.

Hello List!
I apologize for the bad English. I've been studying (not professional)
rocks of
Mars. In addition to the five types of rocks from Mars that fell onto
Earth as
meteorites, scientists have discovered deposits of the mineral

serpentine.

If you
enter the name "serpentinite" in the search Google images is a lot of
pictures, this
breed is very diverse. But how could look serpentinite, if he fell to

us

as a
meteorite? It has long been engaged in the search of meteorites and

would

not
want to walk past if a meteorite is possible. If anyone has suggestions
about
what kind would have this breed, please send us the links, I would be

very

grateful! (I still like this picture here -
http://savepic.org/4222351.jpg)

---
Yours faithfully.
Aleksandr.

[meteorite-list] AD-Mreira

2013-07-27 Thread Gary Fujihara
Aloha mai kakou,

I am pointing my canoe NE for a voyage to Alberta (the overland portion is
gonna be tough sailing). But would like to mention that the Big Kahuna holdings
were exceeding a kilo of this beautiful L6 (S6,W0) meteorite, as opposed to the
335g reported in the metbull (http://tinyurl.com/lr69y44).

Pictured on the link below is a full slice of Mreira, an L6 ordinary chondrite
with a shock stage of 6 and a weathering stage of 0. It was witnessed to fall
near the village of Mehaires, Western Sahara. Pieces were recovered
approximately 40 miles south of Mehaires, near Mreïra, Mauritania, only a few
days after the event. The strewn field is in the area called "Stailt Omgrain",
which is a local nomadic name. This is south of Mehaires and north of the
mountain "Galbe lahmar".
The meteorite is brecciated, and appears to feature clasts of less equilibrated
chondritic material. Some specimens have been shocked, with distinct melt
phases.

http://bigkahuna-meteorites.com/Images/Mreira-7.49a.jpg

Some of the Mreira individual and slice offerings can be seen on these two
webpages:

http://bigkahuna-meteorites.com/Mreira.html
http://bigkahuna-meteorites.com/Mreira2.html

Because I will be away, I won't be able to ship anything out immediately, but
can accept sales to ship out upon my return to Hawaii August 6.
