[meteorite-list] Who wants to trade some material?

2014-04-17 Thread Galactic Stone & Ironworks
Hi Listees,

Who wants to do a swap? I am getting bored with the material I have
and could use something new or different. Take a look at my website,
it has most of my collection on it. Almost anything on the website is
fair game for trade - except for a handful of space-memorabilia items
that I am selling on consignment. Meteorites, fossils, crystals,
minerals, amber, artifacts, etc. I am interested in anything unusual
or natural - fulgurites, meteorites, etc. Let me know what you have
and we can hash out a swap. Contact me via email to inquire -
cura...@galactic.com

Note - I deal in mostly micromounts, which consist of small pieces and
crumbs of various meteorites (rare and common). However, I have a LOT
of crumbs of some of these meteorites, so these would be ideal for
resale. My stockpile varies by type and locality, so let me know if
anything is interesting and I will check my available quantities.

Best regards,

MikeG

Re: [meteorite-list] Met Bulletin Off-Line - Traffic Overload

2014-04-17 Thread Galactic Stone & Ironworks
Maybe the name of the group should be "I Fukang Love Science"

Ok, that is a terrible pun.

I guess the bright side of this is that people are being exposed to
meteorites that might not normally be exposed to such things. If this
gets a few people curious and into the field/hobby, then it's a good
thing. But, it's not good when it crashes the server.

Thanks for your hard work Jeff!

[meteorite-list] NASA Rover Opportunity's Selfie Shows Clean Machine

2014-04-17 Thread Ron Baalke

http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news.php?release=2014-118

NASA Rover Opportunity's Selfie Shows Clean Machine
Jet Propulsion Laboratory
April 17, 2014

In its sixth Martian winter, NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity
now has cleaner solar arrays than in any Martian winter since its first
on the Red Planet, in 2005. Cleaning effects of wind events in March boosted
the amount of electricity available for the rover's work.

A new self-portrait from Opportunity's panoramic camera (Pancam), showing
the cleaned arrays, is online at:

http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/spaceimages/details.php?id=PIA18079

The mission is using the rover's added energy to inspect "Murray Ridge,"
on the western rim of Endeavour Crater, to learn about wet environments
on ancient Mars.

During Opportunity's first decade on Mars and the 2004-2010 career of
its twin, Spirit, NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Project yielded a range
of findings proving wet environmental conditions on ancient Mars -- some
very acidic, others milder and more conducive to supporting life.

JPL manages the Mars Exploration Rover Project for NASA's Science Mission
Directorate in Washington. For more information about Spirit and Opportunity,
visit

Pas mal, pas mal ! Merci pour les grands esprits!
Thank you for those "great minds"!

Graham kindly wrote: You and Bernd are just too quick for me ;-)

Comment: :-) :-)

As for MikeG's problem accessing the Met.Bull. today...
I still get this message here in plain text right now! :-(

Best to All of You
Happy Easter,

Bernd

Hi Jeff and List,

As of now, the Met Bulletin is offline. When I try to access it, I get
the

following message in plain text on a white screen :

"Due to excessive traffic, this resource has been temporarily disabled.
Please try back again tomorrow."

I thought everyone should know, and just in case Jeff was not aware.

Best regards,

Although I have been aware of this band for years, I have never heard
any of their music. While exploring hashtags on Facebook today, I ran
across a promo for the new Echo and the Bunnymen album. It is called
"Meteorites" and it has images of meteorites in cross-polarized light
on the cover. There are also t-shirts and posters of the images.

You can see it here - http://www.bunnymen.com/

Does anyone know what meteorite that is? It doesn't say.
