[meteorite-list] Ad - Meteorite Type Collections are back, Meteorite of the Month Club, New Holiday Shopping Categories

2015-10-19 Thread Galactic Stone & Ironworks via Meteorite-list
Hi Friends and Collectors,

A few years ago, I offered a meteorite Type Collection kit with 28
different types. I am now re-introducing this kit with 36 different
types, just in time for the upcoming holidays. Yes, it is that time
of year again

As always, use coupon code "metlist" at checkout for 20% off your entire order.

This Type Collection Kit contains 36 different petrologic types from
around the world and solar system. Many of these types are rare and
quite hard to acquire. This is an ideal way to start out with
Type-Collecting or to fill holes in your existing collection.

Meteorite Type Collection :

To make Christmas and holiday shopping easier, I have added two new
categories to the store - Stocking Stuffers (starting at just $5), and
Unique Gift Displays. These are the most popular items every year for
people purchasing gifts. Now is a good time to start getting your gift
shopping done before the consumer insanity begins. :)

[meteorite-list] AD- New Lunar & Auctions started at .99 ending today

2015-10-19 Thread John higgins via Meteorite-list
Dear Meteorite List Members,

I have several auctions ending today, started at only .99 with no reserve.

Click here for my current eBay auctions:
http://stores.ebay.com/Outer-Space-Rocks

Also I would like to introduce a beautiful new Feldspathic Lunar Melt Meteorite
NWA 10228 This small 19.4 gram meteorite was found by Berber meteorite hunters
east of Assa, Morocco near a place known by locals as Laagad. Recently
classified by Dr. Tony Irving at the University of Washington Seattle and
officially approved on September 4th 2015.
This new Lunar has incredible dark melted areas among a fine grained matrix
containing white anorthite clasts! Limited remaining specimens consist of 3
complete slices and the main mass. This Lunar is available for viewing in my
Outer Space Rocks eBay store.

Thank You and Have a Great Day!

Hello Francesco and List,

You can also clean up rust with Coca-Cola (or Pepsi).
I know someone who did and was very happy with the results.

[meteorite-list] Chelyabinsk-like meteorites may strike Earth twice this century

2015-10-19 Thread Shawn Alan via Meteorite-list
Hello Listers,

Chelyabinsk-like meteorites may strike Earth twice this century

Source: REX

The threat of an asteroid or meteorite attack on Earth is still
relevant, Professor of the Ural Federal University, Victor Grokhovsky
believes.

According to the scientist, large celestial bodies "attack" planet Earth
approximately three times in 100 years. Therefore, we may witness
another meteorite attack, similar to the one that occurred in the sky
above Chelyabinsk, Russia.

"In this century, the first large meteorite exploded in the sky over
Chelyabinsk. It is quite possible that objects similar to the
Chelyabinsk meteorite may strike Earth once or twice this century," the
professor told TASS, Pravda.Ru says.

Grokhovsky explained that his theory was based on the statistical data
of meteorite attacks on Earth in the last hundreds of years.

According to Grokhovski, scientists do not know much about the threats
that planet Earth may encounter in space.

Pravda.Ru

website:
http://english.pravda.ru/news/science/14-10-2015/132322-chelyabinsk_meteorite-0/

I would say this is true, hello is a stony meteorite and we get hit by
those a lot. What would be cool is if it was a lunar meteorite :))

[meteorite-list] AD - Display And Meteorite Related Items

2015-10-19 Thread Raremeteorites via Meteorite-list

Dear List Members,

I have some great auctions ending tomorrow night. I have been cleaning out
one of my many storage areas and found several small display type items that
some of you collectors or dealers might be interested in. Most of them are
new including Riker Mounts and Display Stands. I am attempting to place
these directly at a much lower price than I paid so that somebody else can
use them. I do not see myself selling at Gem and Mineral shows ever again
since the number of attendees has declined rapidly the last several years so
I no longer have any use for them. If you are interested, please let me
know and I will set them aside for you.

I may go to the Tucson Show one more time before the attendance numbers
decline below 40,000 in order to sell a truck load of large glass and metal
Arizona or similar type display cases. I currently have them warehoused but
will dig them out if any dealers are interested in picking them up directly
in Laughlin, NV saving me a trip to Tucson. Most are still new (used once)
and in their original boxes.

NWA 5000 Specimens, All started at just 99 cents with no reserve:

Legendary NWA 5000 Lunar Meteorite Moon Rock 1.0 grams Pure Dust

Great Legendary NWA 5000 Lunar Meteorite Moon Rock .526 grams - NO RESERVE!

Meteorite related artifact. I will accept any reasonable direct offer on
this very interesting piece even though it is currently running on eBay:

1700'S AFRICAN THUNDERSTONE OR METEORITE RELIC WITH IRON ADORNMENTS - MUST
SEE!! http://r.ebay.com/uz49zN

Display Items Direct Non Auction Sales

Qty 80, 1-1/2" X 1-1/2" black display stands. These are perfect for
displaying slices at shows or in a display case since the black tends to
blend into the background so as not to interfere with specimens. I paid
over two dollars each for these but will sell the entire lot for $80.00 with
no shipping fees here in the United States.

http://themeteoritesite.com/DisplayItems/DisplayStands-b.jpg

Qty 72, 4" X 3" X ¾" Riker Mount Display Cases. These are the real deal,
not some cheap Chinese knockoffs being sold for $2.00 each on eBay that will
become delaminated and ooze glue all over your specimens. These have glass
with good glue that doesn't melt under the lights in a display case. My
landed costs were over $4.00 each but I will sell the entire lot for $150.00
and cover shipping here in the United States.

http://themeteoritesite.com/DisplayItems/Riker-b.jpg

Qty 20, 4" X 3" X ¾" Plus Qty 2, 8-1/4" X 6-1/4" X ¾" Used Riker Mount
Display Cases. These were used once for a show and are in near perfect
shape with no labels or imperfections. These are the real deal, not some
cheap Chinese knockoffs being sold for $2.00 each on eBay that will become
delaminated and ooze glue all over your specimens. These have glass with
good glue that doesn't melt under the lights in a display case. My landed
costs were over $4.00 each for the smaller ones and $16.00 each for the
larger ones but I will sell the entire 22 item lot for $60.00 and cover
shipping her in the United States.

Qty 2, (a) 2-1/2" 11 Rattle, (b) 2-1/4" 10 Rattle, Large rattlesnake tails
found in the Mohave Desert. These would make a perfect compliment to
meteorite displays since these were found while hunting for meteorites. I
have seen much smaller once offered in gift shops for $25.00 each. $25 for
the pair with free shipping in the United States.

Thank you for looking and if you are bidding, good luck,

Adam

[meteorite-list] RIP: Robert Farquhar (1932-2015)

Robert Farquhar 1932-2015
By Keith Cowing
Spaceref.com
October 18, 2015

My friend Robert Farquhar left this life today. He orbited the sun 83
times. He was big on orbits and designed some of the most esoteric and
complex spacecraft trajectories ever attempted which were executed with
stunning precision.

Between ISEE-3's crazy trips around the inner solar system to the recent
flyby of Pluto, Bob had a hand in many missions. I went to visit Bob a
week or so ago at home. He was weak but still smiled when I told him we
had a date to go outside and wave at ISEE-3 when it flies by Earth again
in 2029. More to follow in the days ahead. This graphic went out on the
@ISEE3Reboot Twitter account today "I lost my human brother Bob Farquhar
today. Although I don't have a computer I will always remember him."
