[meteorite-list] [Free AD 1/2] Tocache (new official Peru fall) and few Brazilian meteorites (Vicenca, Tres Irmaos, Serra Pelada, etc)

2019-12-19 Thread André Moutinho via Meteorite-list
Hell all!

I have made a deal with the owners of the Tocache to sell just 400g of
this meteorite to help with costs. The remaining of the mass they
assured that will be preserved and kept in an university institute.
Nice opportunity to acquire an interesting fall from a rare locality.
This is Peru's second official meteorite fall, along with the famous
Carancas. Few slices left.

Metbul Entry: https://www.lpi.usra.edu/meteor/metbull.php?code=70660

History: The meteorite fall was witnessed by Mr. Leodegario Tolentino
Laiza and Mrs. Horacia Padilla Herrera in the Tocache District,
Tocache Province, San Martín Department, Peru. According to the
witnesses, the fall occurred between midnight and two in the morning
of January 1, 1998. A fireball was observed in the sky and, within ",
it exploded. Soon after, a humming sound, like a small plane, was
heard and then two impacts on the ground were felt. In the following
week, Mr. Leodegario found the 5140 g fragment on his coffee
plantation, in a small crater 1 m deep by 50-80 cm in diameter in the
clay soil. According to him, the meteorite had a smell that resembled
something burned and with sulfur. The meteorite was kept in a shed of
the property, being exposed to the high humidity of the region that is
part of the Peruvian Amazon. In 2017, the fragment was acquired from
the couple’s son, Mr. Willy Tolentino Padilla, by the Quimiosfera
Laboratory at the Chemistry Institute of the University of São Paulo
(USP) for study and classification.

<10g $30/g
>=10g  $25/g

I also have few other Brazilian meteorites available. Please contact
for pricing and pictures.

1) Vicencia (LL3.2 fall): Unequilibrated or primitive chondrites are
very important to science because they provide a sample of the very
early origin of the solar system. Even more important are primite
chondrite falls as they show no effect of terrestrial weathering.
There exists only about 4 other primitive ordinary chondrites falls
and none of them is available to the collector.

2) Tres Irmaos (L6 2017 fall): Only one single mass of 890g was
recovered. The meteorite was purchased by the city hall, National
Museum, Federal University of Bahia and me. I have got about 120g of
this meteorite and made less than 50g available to the collector. Most
are preserved at City Hall museum, National Musem and State University
and my collection. The meteorite fell in a city named Palmas de Monte
Alto. As there exists already a meteorite with such city name, this
fall was named after an interesting geological site named Tres Irmaos,
that means Three Brothers.

3) Serra Pelada (Eucrite 2017 fall)
4) Campos sales (L6 1991 fall)
5) Pará de Minas (historic iron traded with ASU): few slices from 2 - 4g
6) Santo Antônio do Descoberto (Nice IIAB with Neumann lines)
7) Indianopolis (rare to find iron) - one slice available
8) Macau (historic fall) - one small slice available
9) Nossa Senhora do Livramento (recent but low tkw iron)
10) Sao Joao Nepomuceno (beautiful IVA-ano iron)
11) Avanhandava (1952 fall)
12) Santa Catharina: iron not shale. few small slices available
13) Santa Vitoria do Palmar (L3 find). Cheap nice meteorite. Few
slices available.
14) Nova Petropolis (IIIAB)
15) Patos de Minas (octahedrite)

All the Best

A few meteorites do contain rare grains of SiO2 including tridymite,
quartz and cristobalite, but generally these grains are quite small
and intergrown with other silicate phases. Some IVA irons contain a
few blades of trydimite, but if you see a rock with several percent or
more of quartz grains that are millimeter size or larger, it will not
be a meteorite.

Hello members,

I really want to post my question about quartz longtimes ago, what I

in my knowledge there are different types of quartz and whose chemical

habitually no quartz in the meteorites but if there is in a meteorite
then it is a rare stone and whose classification differs from other
meteorites and testimony of another planet it's just opinion.

I think that the meteorites have chemical compositions like the
terrestrial stones (magmatic, volcanic ...). the probability that a
meteorite contains SiO2 is not zero.

if there is a clarification please.

[meteorite-list] Tres irmaos meteorite (New Brazilian fall is now official)

2017-08-16 Thread André Moutinho via Meteorite-list
Hello all!

Happy to announce that the meteorite that fell on 26 May 2017 (11:30
am local time UTC-3) in rural zone of Palmas de Monte Alto City was
approved and now is an official meteorite. The writeup history and
analisys will be updated soon in MetBul Database.
Anyway I would like to explain the reason for the "Tres Irmaoes" name.
There already exists another iron meteorite found in same city which
name is Pamas de Monte Alto. The committee prefer not to change
existing names (or name conflicts) so we suggested the "Tres Irmaos"
alternative. This is the name of a very known and famous geological
feature (14°10'33.54""S, 43°4'59.93""W) about 4 miles from the fall
site formed by three large bolders (check picture). This meteorite of
about only 900g was purchased by a consortium formed by city hall,
National Museum, Bahia Federal University and me. Most material
belongs to the city hall. I wll have a small piece and will selll few
grams to recover the trip expenses. Also have few fragmens and slices
of the new Brazilian eucrite available. Email for pics and details.

Metbul Entry: https://www.lpi.usra.edu/meteor/metbull.php?code=6577

A picture of the Tres Irmaos bolders can bee seen here:
