That's cool, Sonny.

In February I found a SOG knife on a dry lake bed in Nevada while 'finding'
meteorites and mentioned I found "a knife". A friend asked if it was a, "Gray
SOG knife found on Dry Lake ...". Sure enough it was his that he lost two
years prior and that it was a special gift from his son. I was happy to return
it back to him after it had a short vaca in Florida.
Needless to say Jim W. was absolutely thrilled to have it back! :)

Greg

Hi All,

I have been out exploring areas in Nevada and Utah for meteorites and photo
opportunities. It is amazing how many unique treasures you are able to find.
Not to mention
the wildlife and weather events. I hope to post a few pictures later. I did
find a retractable meteorite cane on a lake bed. Not the treasure I was hoping
for! It looks like it has been lying on the lake bed surface for a year or two
but still in great shape. Email off list if you think this is yours and want it
back.

The principal paradigm is that the pallasites are from the core-mantle boundary
of a differentiated asteroid and that magmatic irons (those group[s whose
elemental ratios are consistent with formation by fractional crystallization)
are from the core. There are non-magmatic irons (the IAB complex and the IIE
irons) with more-controversial origins. I think that they are impact products
from the surface of chondritic asteroids. The origin of mesosiderites is also
controversial, but it seems to me that they are probably impact products formed
when the core )or core plus mantle) of one differentiated asteroid fragment
collided with the basaltic crust of another.

Hi Michael/List;

Great to hear from you! Rich formatting is when your email software adds a
special font, bold print, colored text, etc. to the email message. This is
accomplished using HTML, which is what web pages use - so basically rich
formatting makes email messages display more like a web page. Unfortunately
HTML in emails can also allow hackers to hide nefarious code within the message.

Re: [meteorite-list] Awfully quiet

2015-04-30 Thread Art Jones via Meteorite-list
Hi Mike;

That's a good question and I have looked into it before. There doesn't seem to
be a way to adjust the format of outgoing email from an iPhone or iPad. Most
info I have found makes me believe that iOS sends plain text by default but I
have had problems as well. I think that the final formatting can be affected by
the content (e.g. links) or also by the email provider.

The issue has actually made me consider removing the restriction on html.

Most of my emails are blocked, never to appear. Why? I have no clue. Most

Hi Listees,

At random times (it seems) I get these bounce notices when I send a message to
the List. Is anyone else getting these and what do they mean? Are my posts
making it to the List? Somebody please reply to this and let me know.

Here is a copy of the text in the emails I get :

[meteorite-list] From the Admn - Reminder about plain text formatting

2014-12-04 Thread Art Jones via Meteorite-list
Greetings;

Just a reminder that only emails formatted as Plain Text will post to the list.
  I still see quite a few emails being rejected due to rich formatting (rich
text and/or HTML included in the email) and 99% of the time this is the reason
an email won't go through to the list.

Changing the format setting is different depending on the email client used,
but most have a tab or menu item called "Formatting Options" or "Format Text"
or something similar. You want to select plain text, or remove all formatting.

Also some email clients will add rich formatting to a plain text email when a
URL (link) is added so that is something to check if your emails don't seem to
be getting through and you're using plain text.

Hope this helps and hope everyone is having an excellent winter so far!

Best Regards,  Art

better and might be going home in a day or 2 . It does not look like that one
made it. So I am trying again, I arrived home yesterday evening 5/24/14. Thanks
to so many of you for your prayers I don't think you should stop praying for me
I am still pretty tired and the world is pretty foggy still, but boy do I feel
BETTER!

 Thanks Ruben for keeping track of me while I was missing and getting people to
pray for me I assure you is had a lot to do with my recovery, More later but I
really did appreciate hearing from each and everyone of you Thanks.

Re: [meteorite-list] List archive question

2014-05-12 Thread Art Jones via Meteorite-list
Hi John;

That website isn't associated with the list, it's a third party that subscribes
and then posts the data.

The 'official' list archives can at found in these two URLs:

 http://www.meteorite-list-archives.com
 http://three.pairlist.net/mailman/private/meteorite-list/

You'll need to use your account password to access the second link.

[meteorite-list] Yahoo and AOL email issues - from the Admin

2014-05-08 Thread Art Jones via Meteorite-list
Good Afternoon List;

The recent list issues regarding several email providers (Yahoo, AOL, etc.)
seem to be behind us and I have re-enabled all of those accounts. Thanks to
input from Bob Falls I was able to take advantage of some changes my service
provider put into place and this should take care of the bounce problems.

The only downside from this fix is that if you click "Reply" or "Reply All" to
a posting the reply will only go to the member and not back to the list as
well. If you would like to reply to an email and have it go to the list as
well please paste the list address "meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com" into
the "To" field. I apologize for this inconvenience and hopefully this issue
will be fixed as well at some point.

So remember, when replying to a list email that you want the list copied on,
please paste meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com into the "To" field.

Thanks again to IMCA's Bob Falls!

Best Regards, Art
