[meteorite-list] Oriented Meteorites?

2013-02-28 Thread Brandon D.
Hello Everyone,

I have a question I'm sure can be answered here to my satisfaction.

What defines an "Oriented meteorite"? I've noticed a trend starting where
people have begun calling any meteorite with a rounded edge oriented or
"slightly oriented".

What truly defines an oriented meteorite? I have dozens of shields with radial
flowlines and bullet shaped stones and irons, so I see orientation, but what's
the true criteria?

Thank you ahead for any replies.

Best,
Brandon D.

[meteorite-list] AD: First come - First Serve Sale on Kentland and Glover Bluff impactites

2012-12-22 Thread Brandon D.
Hello Listees,

I have several large slices of Kentland and Glover Bluff I am selling at a flat
cost of $150.00 and on a first come-first serve basis. These are gorgeous
slices and beautiful museum quality examples of both localities I assure you. I
need to begin creating much needed room for some new exciting material to be
brought forward early next year.

Kentland full slices with green tektite inclusion and beautiful diverse matrix:

1) 407.5g 22cm x 12cm x 9mm

2) 407.3g 22cm x 11cm x 9mm

3) 334.7g 19cm x 12cm x 9mm

Glover Bluff breccia:

1) 713.6g(endcut) 14cm x 16cm x 2cm

2) 439.9g lot consisting of two nice endcuts w/melt inclusions and one slice

In addition to the breccia I also have a Perfect 14lb. Kentland conical shatter
cone with horse-tails everywhere on the backside in all directions. This is
truly one of the best and would be the centerpiece of any impactites or
meteorite collection alike. - A real deal at only $350.00

Ping me email off list letting me know which one you would be interested in and
I will send you detailed pictures.

Happy Holidays everyone. I hope everyone has a safe and Happy New Years!

Re: [meteorite-list] Another free Webcast link for Asteroid Flyby 4179 Toutatis Pass Earth

2012-12-11 Thread Brandon D.
Hi Don and fellow listees,

Thanks for the information.

As there seems to be little discussion on this event, I have a question that
may or may not be common knowledge so excuse my ignorance if it is :-)

Don't asteroids usually have smaller debris trailing or orbiting the larger
bodies? Is Toutatis large enough and if so, is it passing close enough and is
the gravitational force of the Earth strong enough to pull the smaller bodies
toward us to possibility create meteorites?

Just curious.

Thanks,
Brandon D.

Re: [meteorite-list] AD: MUST SEE!! Kentland Melt and Glover Bluff Impactites

2012-11-11 Thread Brandon D.
Hi Mike,

I wish I could take credit, but these new specimens were all cut and prepared
for me by Dan Wray, and what an amazing job he did!! They came out better then
I could have hoped and I must say, it truly felt like Christmas unwrapping and
seeing them for the first time.

The melt rocks are spectacular. I was floored by the flowing matrix and metal.
I've recovered a lot of material from the Kentland locality, but these were
above and beyond.

Re: [meteorite-list] NASA SETI Misappropriation of Tax Payer Funds

2012-11-02 Thread Brandon D.
Hello Jodie and List,

Rather then looking for actual stones on the ground, could it be they are
tracking hunters movements, collecting data as finds are made, by whom and
where, then relaying to individuals on the ground as to where best to search
based on that info?

Re: [meteorite-list] Orionoid micrometeorites?

2012-10-22 Thread Brandon D.
Hi mike.

Air quality standard put.in place in the last decade dictate that fly ash be
trapped in the stack to eliminate this type of air polution. Even so, those
particles which I quote "generally condense as spheroids 0.5-300nm round" are
all but collected before they even leave the stack. Even if that was a good
possibility, how does it explain the forms exhibited which essentially look
like splashform-type tektites?

[meteorite-list] Breathtaking cut Glover Bluff Impactites !!!

2012-09-23 Thread Brandon D.

Hello Everyone, I hope all had a good weekend.

I had a chance this weekend to cut a few of very large rocks I collected at
Glover Bluff a couple week ago and found myself scratching my head at what I
saw.

https://picasaweb.google.com/m/viewer?fgl=true&pli=1#album/103555700843987997365/5791407095561929521

Some were red/yellow/white polymict breccias with fragments.of quartzite answer
chert, some where what looked like included sandstone melts and some of the
combinations were quite breathtaking and complex.

I wondered if anyone may be able to explain or take a stab at describing what
I'm seeing and the process it may have took to create it.

I only found a few small shatter cones, nothing like Kentland, but where that
lacked the beautiful breccia made up for it.

Any ideas? Has anyone seen this before or have Glover Bluff in their
collection? I will have beautiful slices answer endcuts soon. If interested let
me know. Trade of sale.

Thanks,

Brandon D.

I think I remember reading something online today about it being a missile
test...

Or maybe someone's got the 1.21 gigawatts needed in their DeLorean to go back
in time to answer Gary's question just before Mirko :-p

Congrats Mirko and thank you Gary for the fun!

[meteorite-list] AD: SALE on Kentland Shattercones and Impactites!!

2012-08-21 Thread Brandon D.

 Original message
Subject: [meteorite-list] AD: Limited time SALE Kentland Shattercones and
Impactites
From: b1dunov...@aol.com
To: meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com
CC:

Happy Monday Everyone,

I am running a sale on a few of my very nice Kentland Cones recovered
earlier this year. Please have a look and see if there is something you
might want to add to your collection.

To mention a few of the current sales:

1. 5lbs Shattercone well developed with ordivician fossils visible-
SALE $100 or equal trade

2. 15lbs Shattercone with horse-tails in multiple directions preserved
in fresh white limestone- SALE $200 or equal trade

3. 2lb Shattercone with mulit-directional cones and horsetails on every
side preserved in fresh white limestone- SALE $200 or equal trade

4. 6 /12lb Shattercone with large calcite inclusion and huge coral
fossil- SALE $175 or equal trade

5. First sized shattercone with "dog tooth" Calcite crystal cluster-
SALE $50 or equal trade

In addtion to running sales, I also posted pictures of some large melt
and breccia samples far to large for my current saw. The impact melt is
amazing and even resembles a face!!
They would make outstanding display pieces and have a plethura of
diverse and intriguing features. Given I cannot currently cut them
myself, I would like to make a plea to the forum. If anyone is willing
to cut these three stones for me, I would offer to them not only a full
slice of the material, but a shattercone from Kentland as well to
complete their display. Please email me off list if interested.

Pictures of the three needing to be cut as well as recent additons and
running Sales can be viewed here:

http://picasaweb.google.com/103555700843987997365

Make me an offer on anything. Trades for other impactites welcomed.

Best Regards and have a nice weekend,

Brandon D.

2012-07-19 Thread Brandon D.
Hi Michael,

When looking at my material keep in mind that prices are negotiable on some
pieces. Just let me know which one you would like to discuss if that is the
case and we will work something out.

Thanks,
