Hi all on the meteorite list, I have some really cool stuff up on ebay that is ending soon, and I just thought I would let you guys know. I have a really cool NWA 869 Carved FLOWER! It is really nice, and so far it only has one bid, and that bid was wholesale cost, so that one is a good deal right now. http://cgi.ebay.com/Stone-Meteorite-CARVED-Flower-NWA-869-Crystal-Sculpture-/250868483055?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a68ed43ef I have a lot of other really really cool things, like, a Libyan Desert Glass EGG, an NWA Sphere, a TAZA, an Odessa, a Gao, a Canyon Diablo, and Moldavite Earrings! [meteorite-list] Ad: HUGE polished meteorite sphere for sale, also, Big Mundrabilla, Taza, Sikhote-alin slice, Toufassour, Imilac, Seymchan Slice, Large Desrt Glass, Etched Mundrabilla, and much more!
Hi all on the meteorite list, I just want to say a little off-topic, thank you for all the people that came to my birthday party last night, It was the best birthday party ever, and I have the best friends in the entire world! There were many meteorite people there, and it was at a virtual museum for meteorites as well! As many of you may know, we adopted a puppy that was found in the parking lot of a convenient store a month ago, and soon thereafter said puppy came down with Parvo, which is terrible, and expensive to treat. So, we have listed on Ebay some of the best of the best of our stuff for sale. We literally picked out the biggest and best of every meteorite in our possession and listed them for sale this week to raise money. They are all ending tonight, Sunday, and I just wanted to let you guys know b/c some of the bids are still pretty low, and you could probably get yourself a good deal actually! First, and probably most impressive is the largest meteorite sphere I have ever owned, and the most impressive one too, An NWA 869, perfectly polished and expertly carved by a lovely South African man who I love dearly. It weighs almost 3 ounces, and it just gorgeous, it can be seen here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260798851164&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT The nicest, largest oriented Taza in my collection, which can be seen here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250835637397&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT An Almost 70 gram super great color and shaped Mundrabilla can be bid on here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250835658972&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT A really great shaped Imilac with nice desert patina here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250835636664&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT A really great slice of Seymchan which is gorgeous and mirror polished and so far still really cheap in price here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260798827642&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT A really gorgeous Etched mundrabilla with really awesome shape can be seen here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250835640617&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT A gorgeous shaped and mirror polished slice of Sikhote-alin here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260787057746&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT The biggest piece of Libyan Desert Glass (175 carats) that I had in my possession here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250835647673&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT Not so big, but great on the rare side and super expensive mesosiderite meteorite that is expertly cut and polished End Cut Toufassour: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260798830972&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT And a super nice REALLY oriented Sikhote-alin that is just shocking cool looking here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250835636930&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT And a nice moldavite that would make a great pendant here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250835654669&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT And another nice meteorite that may look good in a pendant of Gold Basin here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260798837989&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT There are other things like placer gold nuggets and some really cool trilobites and ammonites, and everything can be seen here: http://shop.ebay.com/callistodesigns/m.html?_trksid=p4340.l2562 So, I hope you all can find something that you may want to have in your home, and you can help a girl out get some vet bills paid, and you can have a new, nice, awesome meteorite added to your collection at the same time! Since I usually sell thumbnail specimens and micro-mounts, as well as meteorites for jewelry mainly, these are all the largest pieces in my collection, which means that most of these are too big to make into jewelry and too big for thumbnail specimens, but I realize that 'big' or 'large' can be a relative term, since some of you have only several pound size specimens. Anyway, just saying... Also, once again, thank you all for coming to my birthday party, it was a meteorite-gathering good ole time and I had such a blast! __ Visit the Archives at http://www.meteoritecentral.com/mailing-list-archives.html Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list

Dear Listees: I have a friend who is interested in acquiring (free or with cash-money) vintage Tucson Show memorabilia, especially the big 'Tucson Show Guides', from 2000 and earlier. Lisa Marie is writing an article about CSS for the "EZ Guide" that gets distributed during the Tucson Gem & Mineral Shows each year Leigh Anne joined her as her photographer. I hope you all get a chance to check it out when your where for the shows. While they were here they got to see how we observer and survey for NEOs. I commented that while we can find NEOs at any time of the night, they tend to start showing up after midnight, so I wasn't sure if they'd get to see anything other than Main Belt Asteroids. Within minutes of me saying that a new NEO popped up on the screen. It turns out to be a tiny rock, only about 15 feet in diameter, but it makes a special showing today. Around 3:45 Universal time (or GMT or Zulu time if you like) this Near Earth Asteroid, 2010 WA, will make an extraordinary close approach to the Earth, passing a mere 20,000 miles about the surface. I mean it was just the coolest to be the first people to see something like that! I didn't think that I would have been so jazzed, but by the night's end I was pretty rowdy and loud. It was really addictive too, so I can see why you came back a few times Greg! Anyway, Thank you Richard for such a great time, and if anyone gets images of our baby, I would love to see them. Re: [meteorite-list] Here's to making Lemonade out of lemons..
Ed, The termite inspection was done with the guy that was selling it to us. The house was in a trust and willed to that guy, and he had an inspection, and let us know that there had been some termite problems in the past, but it was 'all good now', and we believed him (unfortunately). The pest control people have come out and looked at it, and we had two different ones come just for advice really, and they said that they two colonies (they are in two rooms in my house) are around 10 -15 years old. And may have been slowed down from time to time with treatments, but probably never killed off, as the drywood termites are hard to kill. They live their entire lives inside the boards, and die in the boards, never really ever surface, and never eat through paint or finish, so you never really see them. We were very very naive, this was a first house for both of us, we didn't really know what we were doing, (clearly huh?) Thanks for everyone's thoughts, it means a lot to me, only 152 days until the Tucson Gem Show 2010, and we can all be together. ~LA On Mon, Aug 31, 2009 at 6:24 PM, Ed Deckert wrote: > Hi Leigh Anne, > > That was a most unfortunate bit of bad luck for your house to have been so > visited by the species "housus eatemuptis." Re: [meteorite-list] Here's to making Lemonade out of lemons..
Rob, no, unfortunately, this is mine, all mine. It is ridiculous... I SOOO wish I was selling this for someone else. I can't even believe how bad it was. We just took this all apart, and under the paint, all the wood was the consistency of graham crackers. It didn't even needed to be properly demolished with any tools, we could just crumble it with our hands. I am not even clear how our front door has not just fallen out, b/c the frame that holds it is just sawdust. We realized it was a bigger job than us, so we are getting quotes to have it professionally fixed. Re: [meteorite-list] Here's to making Lemonade out of lemons..
Bob, It's weird we bought this house with a certificate of no termites, and a warranty if they were to appear in 1 year after purchase, they would be treated immediatly. We of course tried to cash in on that first thing, and they said that it was only for 'subterranean termites', and not dry wood termites, these are two separate species apparently. And the company said that they weren't hired to look for dry wood termites in the inspection, b/c that type of termite is so rare here. We were also the victims of trusting the guy that sold us the house, who told us it was 'all good' as he put it. go figure, LA p.s. The company that we had the termite warranty with gave us a courtesy treatment, but that doesn't really help the damage, it just killed them in the section that treated. But not even all of them, just some of them. (I think at this point it just slows them down, as there are millions). There is not a way to get back the integrity of that wood ever. Why do you have to ruin all of my fun? O.k. Greg for the record did not let me 'actually' lick the NWA 482, yet only appear as I was licking it. [meteorite-list] AD: SIGNED Krinov Sikhote-Alin Book for sale - LOW PRICE
Hi Meteorite people (my favorite people), I just wanted to give you all a heads up that I am selling a SIGNED Krinov book, or maybe it should be called a booklet. I have started it out low, and I have put a reserve on it. I was told I would be beaten with a stick if it went for too low, but the reserve is shockingly low for such a rare piece. It is signed by Krinov himself and the inscription is written out to Dr. Brian Mason. Dr. Brain Mason was born in New Zealand in 1917, he's a geochemist and pioneer in the study of meteorites. His extensive list of publications includes "Meteorites" (1962) a standard work in the field. He was a curator at the American Museum of Natural History, and from 1965, curator of meteorites at the Smithsonian Institution, where he is now Curator Emeritus. Thought if anyone would want this it would be someone on this list... Here is the auction site : http://cgi.ebay.com/E-L-Krinov-Sikhote-Alin-Meteorite-Shower-Book-SIGNED_W0QQitemZ250478936618QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAntiquarian_Collectible?hash=item3a51b5422a&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 Hopefully that link works properly. [meteorite-list] question for thin section collectors
I was wondering if anyone could tell me the typical way that thin sections are collected. I know that they are on microscope slides, but do people typically keep those slides in an old microscope slide box, or drawer of some sort? Is there a protective type case that is typical of thin section collectors? My boyfriend is a custom woodworker, and it trying to figure out a way to build a storage case for these. [meteorite-list] what is the most primitve meteorite? or do we even know?
Dear Listees~ I was wondering if anyone knows what the oldest (as in most primitive) meteorite is? I was thinking it was Allende, b/c it is believed to be of extra-solar origin, but is there another one that is more primitive than that? Is there one that is older than our own solar system? At Pineda Crossing, near the Suntree subdivision, John Panik said he was having trouble sleeping, got out of bed and turned on the television just before 3 a.m. "I was sitting there and suddenly there was a loud boom," Panik said. "It shook the windows - not like a big rattle, but a little one. I thought, 'That's not normal.'" The clock read 3:30 a.m. Panik called the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, and was told by dispatcher they'd send a deputy out to check out the area. He also contacted Patrick Air Force Base, and was told they didn't know anything about it. "I thought it was a sonic boom," he said. "That's what I told the sheriff. Like the shuttle returning, but usually you hear two booms, not one." This morning, reports of the explosion were all over the television. "Everybody freaked out. My wife said, 'Oh, you did hear something,'" Panik said. There have also been calls to FLORIDA TODAY from residents in Satellite Beach who heard the explosion. This story is developing.
