[meteorite-list] Bessy comment

2002-09-05 Thread Radosevich, Dave

A
couple of weeks back, Dean offered a new NWA known as the "BL" series. I
normally dont buy NWA's for reasons we have shared on this list. I was reluctant
and based on the photos, I was skeptical. I asked Dean about a few of them and
ended up getting my LAST choice because of the flurry of sales Dean was going
through. Dean said.. "BL15" is all that I have left and will reserve it for
you.

Well,
yesterday it showed up on-time! All I can say is..If this is the "worst of the
bunch" then the other 39 folks got really really nice specimens. My BL15 is way
better than the photo. Mine has it all. Its oriented and shows flow lines,
rollover edge, and plenty of thumb prints.

A
personal thanks to Dean Bessy for brining this truly nice NWA to all of us (40).

Has anyone been able to get a good look/ take pictures of this comet?
Viewing conditions in Maui have been crappy, with a nearly constant high
overcast for the last 2 weeks, and horizon haze otherwise. And I'm too
lazy to drive up 45 minutes to the tip-top of Haleakala and brave the
chill and wind for 20 minutes of maybe-viewing before the comet sets at
this latitude :-) For an island that has such great tourist appeal, we
haven't had much amateur astronomy appeal lately.

[meteorite-list] Help with Meteorite Talk

2002-03-15 Thread Radosevich, Dave

Hi
all,

I am
giving another meteorite talk tomorrow and would like to include a section on
meteorites that have hit "man made objects" like houses, cars, and mail boxes.
If you have pictures that can be emailed to me, that would be
great.

Also
looking for unusual and funny pictures regarding meteorites like the picture I
missed last week of the old woman meteorite landing on a
man!

Thanks
in advance...

  Digital Photography
I also just purchased a Brand New Nikon Coolpix 5000 off of ebay for
$871-.  I bought it because of it's Macro abilities.  The Coolpix
950, 990, and 995 also have good Macro abilities but are a little less on
the megapixel scale.  Also, they are much cheaper!  Here is a good
website on camera reviews with user forums:
  http://www.dpreview.com/

I am still practicing as I have only had the camera a few days.  The
most difficult thing that I have found is getting enough light on the subject
as you can put the lens as close as .8 inch from the subject which tends to
allow the camera to throw shadows.  If anyone knows of a good lighting
retail source for photography please let me know.  Here are two photos
  that I just took.

The first is my .5 gram slice of Calcalong Creek:

This photo is a close-up of NWA 482:

So far this is a great little Camera/Computer.

First of all, i was away from my computer for 2 1/2
weeks last month. My best friend of 15 years was killed in a car crash and
when i returned home i became ill. I had to be taken to the emergency room by
my mom and sister. I was not able to answer any emails or conduct business
during that time. Don't worry, i'm the one who's out $4,000, not you. Your
replacement items were shipped out the first of last week so i will be
  expecting a public apology shortly.

Hello all,
I see that brad sampson offer new meteorites. Good!    But
this person is very strange. I'm realized a trade last year with
Brad and he has received  meteorites from me . I wait from
him  a big Natan since 1 year.  This meteorite was never sent at
my home, and Brad Sampson never could  explain me the cause.
He claimed that the meteorite had been lost, but never could show me
the proof of the sending of the meteorite, in spite of my many
requests.   In january, he propose me to replace the big nantan by
140 g of Lost Creek. I wait it, and since 1 month, no
response. I'm not alone in this case with
Brad Sampson.
Please, be very careful with him.

RE: [meteorite-list] be careful with Brad Sampson :-(

2002-03-01 Thread Radosevich, Dave

One negative and one positive for Brad Sampson...

Well, here is another "Brad" testimony for the negative.

I have had two purchases from Mr. Sampson and both took months for him to ship. When I
received my goods (after many emails and threats)they where poorly represented. I will
never buy from him again.

And on the positive note: who would dare cheat Mr. Schoner!

Good luck Vincent, your gonna need it.

If I remember, I traded a nice Glorieta for a big 850
g. GAO from him some time back and had no problem.

One thing I have learned when sending packages over the
borders-- NEVER label them with any mention of
METEORITES...

For some it is like the box says "Contains GOLD"

Steve Schoner.
