Re: [meteorite-list] Group hunt Willcox Playa dry lake near Tucson Feb 3rd/5th

2020-02-02 Thread Raymond Borges via Meteorite-list
I appreciate the update Mendy. Possibly will have to change our strategy on
hunt location in that case or cancel it altogether. I would still say
anyone interested in hunting or even a get together one day message me on
Gmail (spacerocks.c...@gmail.com) or on Facebook. The meteorite Mansion
crew and friends would still like to meet up one day to do something.

p.s. I will also be bringing about a dozen old meteorite books and ephemera
for sale/trade.
Thanks,

I've tracked the precipitation for NOAA since December in Willcox Playa and
it has been less than 1 inch this month.
There is currently no rain or snow predicted for Willcox AZ that week
according to the Weather Channel and weather underground.
On some sites, they say the probability is 10 to 30% at the highest.

[meteorite-list] Presentation on Aguas Zarcas expedition, hammerstone and roof panel and books for sale Feb 4th and 7th at the meteorite mansion in Tucson!!!

2020-01-31 Thread Raymond Borges via Meteorite-list
I will give two presentations on the Aguas Zarcas expedition at the
Meteorite Mansion. These will be hour-long presentations with videos,
pictures and fun details about our three trips to the Aguas Zarcas
strewnfield in the months of May through July, Please message me or Topher
Spinatto to attend. We will also have about 25 copies of an advanced sample
copy of our book consisting of the first 2 chapters, front matter and
detailed maps of the strewnfield with some information on finds and
interviews.

   - The times will be Tuesday, Feb 4th at 2 pm and Friday, Feb 7th at 6
   pm.
   - We will also bring an impacted roof panel from La Marina Community
Center of La Palmera district Costa Rica with hammerstone and it will be
for sale (asking $20k or best offer). We have about 20grams of the 81g
stone (we purchased all the fragments with paint from the roof) found in
front of the building on the first or second day after the fall of stone
April 23rd (so they are pre-rain). These items are professionally framed
with pictures of the finder and building. They will be on display at the
meteorite mansion. The whole story is on our website for more details.

Together they contain an astounding 685 photographs of 461 different
Antarctic meteorites in multiple forms:

reference to those represented in the collections of the National Institute
of Polar Research, Keizo Yanai, (1987) (298 pages)
Features: Catalogue of 507 photographs of 327 individual specimens of Antarctic
meteorites
Book 2. Photographic catalog of the selected Antarctic meteorites: in the
collection of National Institute of Polar Research, Tokyo, Japan, viii +
(104 pages), 1981.
Features: 178 photographs of 134 meteorites selected from the NIPR

[meteorite-list] Many auctions of Aguas Zarcas slices carbonaceous chondrite ending this Sunday (99cents)

2019-08-25 Thread Raymond Borges via Meteorite-list
Greetings collectors,

Usually I do all my meteorite communication through social media platforms
like Facebook groups but I figured there are people I'm not reaching. The
recent meteorite fall in Costa Rica inspired me to attempt a little
expedition out there so me and my girlfriend Ily Fisher decided to try our
luck and we were very successful! so successful that we went back twice
managing to buy hundreds of grams and recover an impacted roof panel with
the impactor meteorite with green matching roof paint. Some of the stories
of our expeditions are here on our website
https://www.spacerocks.club/expeditions/aguas-zarcas and we are writing a
small booklet to further elaborate on more pictures and details of the trip.

We went to Ensisheim for the first time this year (as dealers to boot) and
mostly sold out and returned to CR once more after that. We are planning to
be at Denver in a room at Crowne Plaza: Denver Airport Convention Center.

Re: [meteorite-list] HUGE Meteor Sighting in Cottonwood AZ - Stats from fall

2014-04-14 Thread Raymond Borges
Hello,

Regarding this comment In all likelihood, the majority of meteorite
falls are not preceded with
either a significant fireball nor any acoustics.

I think the majority of meteorite falls that produce finds will
exhibit these features based on the meteorite books I have read from
Nininger and Norton among others. What do others think?

[meteorite-list] Lunar meteorite casts?

Hello!

Anyone know of any Lunar meteorite casts in existence?
I know of only 2 Mars meteorite casts, NWA 1195 and DaG 735.
And also, wouldn't it be nice if there was a nice NWA 7325 cast, with
