Re: [meteorite-list] Meteorite-list Digest, Vol 261, Issue 15

2024-03-16 Thread humboldt bay jay via Meteorite-list
I am sending this again as I realized I only replied to you and not the
list as well. This turns out good for me because it offers a chance to
better compose my thoughts. I was running errands when I sent the first
email. To begin again:

Jason,
I see what you are saying, and it is a reasonable point but I disagree.
These are the reasons:

1. I can elaborate that "since you never contacted me" means I would have
been happy to provide assistance and the name if the vendor would have done
so with some images of supporting information such as sourcing from the
same finder.

2. There is a clear difference between multi ton finds that have ample
documentation and a kilo find that has had little publicity. Even then I
agree that best practices are to communicate leading me to

3. Point out that you were part of one of my conversations about this in
regard to the likely Jikharra specimen you are referencing. You stated
that "The Jikharra’s obviously that." You are also well aware that I am
not selling any of the obviously Jikharra until my own classification is
approved because you were part of the discussion.

4. You don't actually know where I sourced my material because you did not
ask. For example the metbul mentioned many kilograms traded as Ghadamis
that was not in Marcin's possession. Since I bought and traded Ghadamis
before the name HaH 346 was approved, how do you think I should have
handled the situation differently?

5. In regards to nwa 869 the following quote is from the metbul "At least 2
metric tons of material comprising thousands of individuals has been sold
under the name NWA 869 in the market places of Morocco and around the
world." along with the appropriate caveats due to its abundance- "Scientists
are advised to confirm the classification of any specimens they obtain
before publishing results under this name." So again I do not feel you
are making an apples to apples comparison with your critique of my logic.

We all obviously respect your encyclopedic understanding of meteorites so
perhaps you can share with us your framework for best practices in these
situations.

Best regards,
Jason

Benzaki Mohamed,
Since you have never reached out to me about my classification, Nwa 15758
CK6, I politely request that you do not use this name. I invested time and
resources into having it analyzed and if you wish to sell your material as
a named meteorite I suggest you do the same. Thank you in advance.

[meteorite-list] AD: Jason's Penny Auctions

2023-10-14 Thread humboldt bay jay via Meteorite-list
Hello,
My name is Jason and I am having another round of Penny auctions this week.
I would like to invite you to check out the selection.

https://www.ebay.com/str/handfulofspace

I try to have something for everyone, from the small chip collectors up to
the whole stone meteorite fanatics. There are quite a few recent
publications including a sample of the new one of one Diogenite-Melt rock,
NWA 16100.

In general, the auctions feature many meteorites that I guided through the
classification process so you will have great provenance, and if I sourced
it from another dealer I will include their COA along with mine. I combine
shipping (please don't pay until we adjust the invoice) and am happy to
answer questions. Here is a sample of the selection I am offering, all
starting at just 1 penny.

NWA 14429 Diogenite 5.67g polished fragment
NWA 15758 CK6 5.88g polished fragment "space brownies"
NWA 16029 CVox3 12.8g end cut, great refractory inclusions
NWA 16100, Diogenite-Melt rock, 0.73g chip, one of one "wholesale impact
melting"
NWA 15544 L5 14.89g cut from submissions sample
NWA 259g unclassified meteorite, likely H.E.D. group member
NWA 14423 H5 522g Main Mass nice form and weathering
NWA 2065g unclassified really nice
NWA 16158 Diogenite 28.2g noritic diogenite breccia

Hello,
My name is Jason Whitcomb and I am having another round of auctions
starting at just one penny. It is a big week for me with Sunday the 25th
really starting it all off with a nice selection of NWA 869 closing along
with some other goodies. I would like to invite you to check out the
selection.

https://www.ebay.com/str/handfulofspace

This week there is a nice NWA 869 that I found a line on and butterflied it
so that the halves still stand. From the exterior it looked to have nice
breccia and the cut revealed that to be true. There are nice mets all week
with a skid-marked Ghadamis closing on the following Sunday.

These auctions feature many meteorites that I guided through the
classification process so you will have great provenance, and if I sourced
it from another dealer I will include their COA along with mine. I combine
shipping (please don't pay until we adjust the invoice) and am happy to
answer questions. Here is a sample of the selection I am offering, all
starting at just 1 penny.

NWA 14883 R3 Rumuruti 8.24g light clasts
NWA 869 L3-6 10.2 polished slice
NWA 14558 Winonaite 5.55g
Gebel Kamil 118.6g Iron Ungrouped
NWA 14744 Mesosiderite 7.17g
Tektite 79.1g Deep breadcrusting
NWA 13752 Urielite 2.42g thin slice
