Re: [meteorite-list] Beginners Guide to Meteorites

2002-05-26 Thread David Weir

Hello Chuck,

Michael offers good advice - you can access a great number of quality,
friendly, interesting, and yes, educational meteorite sites from the
Links page of my own educational site. If you still are left wanting,
please feel free to ask me anything you want, I enjoy answering all but
the most ludicrous questions on a regular basis.

David

There are a lot of people on the internet that have
sites already set up for the beginner. I learned from
them almost two years ago when I started (and still
 do!)
As far as the intimidation- I've only seen some of
it in the larger companies that deal in the meteorites
and minerals ( if you can pay less than $100 they
don't seem real interested in helping you)and almost
never in the individuals that maintain sites and/or
 sell regularly on EBay.
There are many good people out there (many who type
to this list) that offer their services, advice,
support and patience to those getting started and
cannot maintain a large expensive collection.
You can do as you please in your effort- but to
promote it from the aspect of lessening intimidation
and to cast out the line and reel them in I don't
think you will get a lot of support. They haven't
shown me they work that way.

Re: [meteorite-list] Beginners Guide to Meteorites

2002-05-26 Thread Paul Harris

Dear Chuck,

I suggest you spend more time on this list and research
the sites that already exist. The meteorite community
is very close and there are a great many people here that
spend lots of time answering questions.

You have made statements in your e-mail that do not represent
the respect we have for our customers. I'm sure many others
on the list feel the same way. You have no idea as to the number
of us who have donated and given specimens away. It's not all
about money. We love meteorites!

It is not enough to just have information and links on your site.
Are you prepared to answer dozens of e-mails per day?

David has a great site. That's why we link to him from our main page.
Please do as David asked and go through each of the links on David's
Meteorite Studies, and all the links from each site he has links to.
When you are finished I guarantee your knowledge about meteorites will
have vastly increased. Whatever questions you still have can be easily
answered by members of this list.

Regards,

Paul Harris,
