Re: [meteorite-list] An apology.

2007-04-12 Thread Art

Hi Greg;

No need to apologize; unless your replies are personal in nature then
you are doing the right thing as the List is meant to be a "threaded"
discussion. The main thing to think about before you hit the send
button is whether your reply is really relevant to everyone. It's
kind of a subjective policy so just use your best judgement.

Here are 2 examples:

email: "What is the best kind of metal detector for meteorite hunting?"
reply: "The Fischer because "
-> this should be CC'd to the List as the info. could benefit the List members

email: "I saw a show last night about meteorites that was good."
reply: "Cool, I saw it too."
-> this should not be CC'd to the List as it does not really add value

Would that be the correct procedure?

Re: [meteorite-list] An Apology to Delraygoddess

2005-02-09 Thread MARK BOSTICK
Hello Michael,
Thanks for your concern. I somehow got a little sick (again) and was out of
it for the most part all Saturday. I don't know what it is with Tucson but
something there doesn't agree with me. At least this year it was only for
about 30 hours rather then 3 days, and I was there an extra day over last.

Sorry I was unable to help you Saturday as I normally do but glad that John
Kerns was able to fill in.

Nice to hear your wife got the moldavite - citrine necklace from/by Leigh
Anne. I found a few NWA 869 beads that I gave her to help craft me another
necklace. Hats off to John Gwillian for eating his crows.

I have just submitted my Tucson report, along with photos. If a few other
list members would take the time to put their thoughts to keyboard then I
will make a webpage like I did last year. Everyone likes the Tucson reports
and I think it is a great way to promote our common interest.

Clear Skies,

Well,
Maybe she will, John, but the rest of us love ya BECAUSE you
are a boorish, grumpy old man. Great to see you at the show. Sorry
I missed meeting del ray at the BD Bash, but my wife DID end up
buying a beautiful Moldavite & Citrine necklace she made in the
auction.
Great seeing everyone at the show. Anyone know what happened
to Mark, The Big Collector Bostick? He didn't show at the auction
and I am a bit worried about him, as he was planning to work it with
me. Much thanks to John Kerns for stepping in at the last second and
saving the day.
Best wishes to all, Michael

[meteorite-list] An Apology to Delraygoddess

2005-02-08 Thread JKGwilliam
List Members,
Some of you might remember a thread that got started back in the middle of
January about an Ebay auction concerning a seller by the name of
"delraygoddess." There was an allegation that the auction looked like
shill bidding was involved and some tempers flared back and forth on this
Meteorite List. It was about this time that I decided to take a look at
the auction. Even though I said that shill bidding on Ebay is hard to
prove, I did say that the auction in question did in fact look fishy. In
addition, I made a comment that I thought the seller's claim that Campo
meteorites sell in stores for $5.00 per gram was deceptive.

Now, fast forward to the Birthday Bash last Saturday night.
Anne Black introduced me to Leigh Anne Delray who is delraygoddess (1648)
99.6%. She is a very charming young lady (who looks much younger than she
really is) and is a real pistol to say the least. We talked about her
auction and she expressed her opinion as I did mine. During that time, I
told her that I spent quite a bit of time searching through Ebay's database
(what they'll let us look at these days, anyway) and I came to the
conclusion that there was no possibility whatsoever that her auction
involved any shill bidding. Leigh Anne pointed out to me that I had
neglected to tell that to the Meteorite List.

So, here goes.
After doing several hours of checking sellers, bidders and histories of
everyone involved, I am pleased to say the "delraygoddess" (aka Leigh Anne
Delray) is in no way involved in shill bidding on Ebay and never has
been. I publicly offer her my most humble apology and ask that she forgive
me for being a boorish, grumpy old man.

Sincerely and Warmest Regards,
John Gwilliam
