Re: [meteorite-list] Brad Sampson Update
Matteo, If you used PayPal to pay this auction, you can dispute the payment with PayPal and they will return your money. Go to the HELP section of PayPal, and click on Protection Policies and then click on Buyers Complaint Process. There you will find this information: Protection Policies What is the Buyer Complaint Process? PayPal's Buyer Complaint Process helps protect PayPal members when a merchant does not deliver goods as promised. If you have been unable to resolve a dispute with a seller, you may file a Buyer Complaint Form (go to the Security Center link in the footer of any PayPal page) to initiate an investigation. PayPal will investigate your complaint and attempt to recover any funds you are owed. You will be entitled to the return of any funds PayPal is able to collect on your behalf. However, fund recovery is not guaranteed. Additionally, buyers who qualify for eBay's insurance policy (currently limited to $200) may recover up to an additional $200 of protection from PayPal if their purchase was made from a verified PayPal seller. Please review the Consumer Protection Programs section of our User Agreement to learn the specific terms and conditions of the Buyer Complaint Process. I would hit this guy where he lives. If you paid by a check or money order I would IMMEDIATELY stop payment, which you can do even after a check or money order has been paid. If you used a credit card I would call them IMMEDIATELY and dispute the charges. Most credit cards have a buyer protection program and if they do not then contact them and explain the situation, technically what the seller has done borderlines Fraud, but the credit card company will make that determination. What they will do almost immediately is reverse or return the funds to your account. I would also file a report with Ebay and apply for their Buyer Protection Insurance. Ebay will investigate the allegation and pay you if they determine that your report is correct. This might seem like a lot of work, but the reason you need to do it is simple. You will be puuting pressure on the seller from many sources, all of them with legal ability. PayPal, Ebay, and the Bank all will try to contact the seller from many different bits of contact information that they all have. By applying this much pressure to Mr. Simpson he will either comply or subject himself to alot of investigations with legal consequences from many sources. It sounds like Mr. Simpson is a little bit irresponsible when it comes to shipping and completing a transaction. Some people have replied that they eventually received their items, some said they did not. And finally, though everyone on the List is sympathetic to your situation and telling your story on the list will inform others of Mr. Simpsons actions, YOU REALLY need to follow up with all of the site/businesses/banks that are involved with this transaction and get the investigations going. They are the only ones that can really help you get your item or your money back. Why do you people keep buying from people who repeatedly have problems? This has been a recurring event, every few months I hear the same things about the same people. Everyone who has ever bought from me knows I ship my ebay items the very next day when possible, most of the time, buyers recive it BEFORE they even paid! [meteorite-list] Brad Sampson Update
Dear List, I sure didn't mean to get embroiled in a controversy, but was thinking outloud when I responded to Matteo's post. I was also emailed later, privately by someone else on this list, who finds themselves in the same boat as Matteo-money sent, no meteorite. At that point my IMCA responsibility (?) kicked in. Interestingly, I typed in Brad's name into YAHOO and found a post made to this list From January 17, 2001 from Sergi Simakov, also wanting to know Brad Sampson's correct email address, because he too had sent money and had never received their meteorite specimen. (list server archives). Uh...without knowing Brad personally, or ever having done business with him before, I would be hard pressed to even offer my opinion on this dealer's reputation, and so forth. For that reason alone, I will remain mum. If others on this list have worked with Mr. Sampson, possibly they can offer some insight. Well maybe Brad Sampson ( who I do not know) went on vacation or something.. I had some doc appointments and then went on vacation and walked out the door without mailing payment to John Schooler.. cuz I was upset and forgot. I didn't mean to forget. I just did. I have had a few times when something was not sent on a timely basis and I found that the person had been in the hospital. Just a thought... Hello Steven, Matteo and list, Matteogood luck, Brad promised me a refund over a year ago on some very late and very poorly shipped meteorites that arrived smashed up. I have yet to receive any refund and recieved almost the same response as Matteo from my inquiries. List members may also remember Brad e-mailed the list saying he couldn't find my address or e-mail and once again promised the refund...seems to be a common problem of his. Look through the archives and you can find several other Sampson complaints. These actions by Sampson have only hurt himself. For example I collect Kansas meteorites. Had Sampson been honest and straight with me in our earlier transaction I would have bought the complete mass of Lost Creek at $5.00 a gram and would have thought I came out like a bandit. Instead what did you get out of it Brad? $2.00 a gram? I don't know but it was sold low enough to be resold for under $3.00 a gram at a profit. Not sure if the IMCA does come in play here however, as Brad does sell real meteorites. Re: [meteorite-list] Brad Sampson Update
It sure didn't take him long to respond to Matteo's feedback on ebay. I think its obvious what's going on. He lists a meteorite on ebay, starting @ $1.00 with no min., It doesn't bring the price he thinks it worth, so, he has e-mail problems. His feedback speaks for itself. His sales practices suck, and, if i'm not mistaken, I believe he was suspended from ebay for awhile not too long ago.
