Re: [meteorite-list] Breja

2021-07-12 Thread Gary Fujihara via Meteorite-list
I got and sold much of the Taouz/ Breja back in the summer of 2010 and back
then the find location was kept secret because (as I was told) it fell in
Algeria. It was implied to me that MetSoc would not approve any stone coming
out of that country because of its strict export rules and anything that did
make it out of the country would have, out of necessity, been smuggled out. The
stones were exquisitely pristine with nothing but flight markings on their
virgin fusion crusts. I think the reason for disqualifying its classification
were lack of gps coordinates. It was not classified as a fall or find.

AH!
So the information regarding a "witnessed fall" might have been
questionable. And it might have been classified as a NWA. Could that be the
answer?

Re: [meteorite-list] Breja Stone, chondrite

2012-01-09 Thread Meteorite-Recon.com
Thanks to everybody for your interest and your kind comments on the photo of the
Taousz/Breja stone which Michael kindly posted. Much appreciated.

Carl, the degree of brown vs black in the color of the fusion crust of a freshly
fallen chondrite is a function mainly of the magnetite (FeO·Fe2O3) content in
the crust. The oxide composition in turn is basically controlled by the supply
of oxygen during the formation of the crust. Thus, trailing faces, which formed
in near vacuum, often show a rich brown instead of the common dull black. A
textbook example is the little oriented Buzzard Coulee pictured here:
http://www.meteorite-recon.com/en/Meteorite_fusion_crust_2.htm

Cheers

I don't know who did the classification, but obviously it has not been

Or delay its publication.

Aloha mai kakou,

I have an offer for collectors and dealers who are interested in acquiring
Breja LL6 meteorites. Breja fell 3:00am May 1, 2010 in an area east of Zag.
It features a velvety bluish black fusion crust not unlike Bensour, with a
light matrix with abundant FeNi and FeS inclusions. I have brought in three
loads in the past, which can be seen on my webpage:
http://bigkahuna-meteorites.com/Taouz.html

Size range in these complete individuals, 90-100% fusion crusted, are
300-1000g. Prices will be in the range or lower of previous offerings (see
website). Contact me offlist asap if interested.

Re: [meteorite-list] Breja Fall Date?

2010-12-09 Thread Jason Utas
Hello Michael, All,
The current fall date is disputed and 'officially' unknown at the
moment. From what I've heard, Albert Jambon is currently writing a
paper on the fall and was interviewing some of the local populous I
believe just last week.
I hope it will contain a concrete verdict on the matter.
Regards,
Jason
