[meteorite-list] Does this rectify negative feedback?

2005-04-04 Thread ROCKS ON FIRE
Hello, Folks,
may I ask your opinion:
I listed 2 items (Haig irons) on ebay and forgot to take out Posts to
Worldwide, leaving only Posts to Australia, but mentioned in the
describtion Sorry, Australia only!

One wellknown meteorite collector/dealer from Chicago accquired both
with Buy it now option and paid straight way for them via PayPal.

Now I realised the mistake, as I do not have an export permit for this
meteorite and wrote this gentleman an apologetic letter and refunded the
money straight away.

It hit me a bit hard when I got his reply (strange wordings, read below,
if you want) and saw that he had given me 2 negative feedbacks for that.

I always thought we are some sort of a family and would try to sort
things out - I have tried!

I would very much appreciate your honest opinion in this matter, as this
is the very first negative feedback on our proud 1000+ positive record.
( If you are bored you can go throught the correspondense following.)

Thanks for your advise and
Best regards from DOWN-UNDER,

Dear Steve,
I am very sorry that you are taking this mishap so hard.
I was always under the impression that you are a gentleman and would
understand that we all are only human and can make mistakes.

This was a honest listing mistake and my describtion also clearly stated
"Sorry, Australia only!" I do understand that this is not much comfort
for you, and I can only offer you my humble apologies, and I am sorry to
loosing you as a good customer. But I am also sorry to having you
mistakenly categorised as collector-buddy and friend.
If you take a deep breeze and put yourself into my position, Would you
take the risk for some $ 30 bucks to having the Fed's snooping through
every corner of your property, getting dragged to court and being
punished with a severe penalty? You don't seem to be so stupid, so I
assume you will take my point.

Yes, Steve, you paid straight away for these pieces via PayPal, which
you always do and what I always appreciated. And I refunded you the
money via PayPal straight away and asked you, if I can do anything for
you, as I reckoned I would owe you one. I guess this straighten this out.

I still have to obey to the law here in Australia, and if you are
suggesting that the meteorite community in America bluntly can ignore
the law over there, I believe you are very much mistaken. I am also sure
that most Americans uphold the law.
I still believe that we can solve this little dispute between us. But if
you prefer to put it onto the billboard, to the list or where ever, I
can't stop you, feel free!

At last: I will not take your expression of "your phony selling
technikes". For this you will give me an explanation and take it back.
If you want to do anything with eBay, that's fine with me, go ahead!

I apologised to you for having made a honest mistake and thought you
would take it as a gentleman.
But if you reckon that you are the only unfailable man in the world and
that the law is only there when it suits you, when you cannot see a
genuine mistake, Sorry, Mate, you then certainly lost me!

Hi Norbert and all,
eBay clearly states in its rules that you can put conditions
(restrictions) on your sell items and those looking at the items on ebay
have to abide by your description. I guess the only question I would
raise is why not just put the item solely on ebay Australia's site and
not the general site where other bidders from other parts of the world
would see it and want to buy it?

I clearly state in my ebay auctions that I don't ship to Italy and if
someone bids on the item from Italy then they have violated the
conditions of my sale not the other way around.

No you don't deserve the negative feedback that Steve gave you. I keep
thinking that perhaps Steve is coming around and then he does something
like this that make me not to want to have anything to do with him ever
again!

The only way to look at this is if you drive enough miles you'll get an
insect on the windshield. You have enough bidee's on your items and
sooner or later someone will leave you a bad feedback even if you don't
deserve it. One negative feedback on 100 positive ones or a 1000 in your
case, shouldn't tarnish your reputation at all. I'd put Steve on my bid
block list if I were you and I know I will on mine so nothing like this
will ever happen to me with him.

These items were listed on Australian eBay as far as I know for the reason
that there were no exports. I also listed some Boxhole Shale on Australian

leaves the "Worldwide" box ticked further down. It would be a VERY easy

Re: [meteorite-list] Does this rectify negative feedback?

2005-04-05 Thread Martin Altmann
Hi Norbert and Steve,

in my still unimpaired world of elfs and dwarfs I still believe in the ratio
of humans (though some individuals make it not easy for me sometimes)
and especially in the meteorite community I can count the cases of
frustration in more than 20 years on the fingers of half a hand.

So Steve, Norbert made an oversight (although it was in Australian ebay and
in the description again mentioned else),
he apologized, so be a man and take back the negative feedbacks - that's
possible in ebay if both parties agree.

Norbert is an absolutely honest, nice and respected person, much valued by
all for being an excellent source for the Aussie-meteorites
and
take finally a look in your own ebay feedback!

There you find a positive feedback from me, after that thing what happened
between us, where after 4 months you still haven't fully paid Oliver and
where I wasted so many hours in writing to you, finally spending my own
money to help you to get the thing straight, although you had enough for you
own in selling and buying stones meanwhile.

So think first about your very own behaviour, before you dare to destroy the
flawless and huge, positive feedback account of one of the best meteorite
dealers of a whole continent.

Martin

Re: [meteorite-list] Does this rectify negative feedback?

2005-04-05 Thread JKGwilliam
Norbert and List,
I for one am in full support of you and your efforts to rectify a problem
with a person who is not only extremely self-serving but boorish and
uncouth as well. Some members of this list often stand in defence of Steve
Arnold (Chicago) but I'm quite sure they haven't been the recipients of any
of his nasty and threatening private emails.

As you have seen in many of the replies to your original email, most
Americans do not share Steve's beliefs about national laws and policies. He
is merely showing his true colors which are definitely not red, white and blue.

To go into great detail would be a waste of my time, but anyone who wishes
to search the archives can find several of the blunders committed by Mr.
Arnold himself. Off hand, I can remember Ebay auctions with the wrong
pictures and/or wrong weights of specimens. His flap with Matteo is a good
example. In most of these instances, Steve simple went to ground for a
while until things blew over. He would like everyone to dismiss his errors
as "honest mistakes" and forget about the issue.

So, forget about his butchery of the English language, the blurry pictures
and the non-stop bragging attempting to impress everyone. Just remember he
has a different side to him that many of you haven't witnessed personally
like Norbert has.

And finally to Steve.
I will no longer tutor you in proper behavior by suggesting ways for you to
get yourself out of the jams you are constantly stuck in. From now on, and
for the better good of honest and respectable list members, I reserve the
right to post to this list any email you send to me personally so that
members of this list can see you for what you really are.

With all due respect to those who are deserving,
John Gwilliam

Please folks, let's be careful out there, and try not to mention the S word for

But John

He didn't say the dreaded "S" word, only an implication that said
"collector/dealer" was one and the
same person. Note also how Norbert referred to the "collector/dealer" as a
"gentleman".

As a newer list member that was somewhat curious as to why Steve was so
unpopular, I think after seeing that email I now understand. I agree
that if you have even a shred of dignity you will pull that negative

I have to agree Steve. Remove the negative feedbacks. but the only way to do
it is if Norbert replies negatively to yours and THEN you MUTUALLY remove
them. I know because I was a bonehead who left premature neatives on John
Sinclair who in NO WAY deserves negative anything! Like the MAN said "Be a
man Steve!"

Hello, Folks,
may I ask your opinion:
I listed 2 items (Haig irons) on ebay and forgot to take out Posts to
Worldwide, leaving only Posts to Australia, but mentioned in the
describtion Sorry, Australia only!

One wellknown meteorite collector/dealer from Chicago accquired both with
Buy it now option and paid straight way for them via PayPal.

Thanks for your advise and

Dear Steve,
I am very sorry that you are taking this mishap so hard.

Yes, Steve, you paid straight away for these pieces via PayPal, which you
always do and what I always appreciated. And I refunded you the money via
PayPal straight away and asked you, if I can do anything for you, as I
reckoned I would owe you one. I guess this straighten this out.

I still have to obey to the law here in Australia, and if you are
suggesting that the meteorite community in America bluntly can ignore the
law over there, I believe you are very much mistaken. I am also sure that
most Americans uphold the law.
