Re: [meteorite-list] Got had and need help! (fwd)
Jeannie, In the previous message, I meant to say 'just outside the CRATER rim' rather than 'just outside the canyon rim'! It's getting late here. Jeannie, The material you bought could be oxidized Canyon Diablo material collected on the surface just outside the canyon rim. H. H. Nininger used some of this in some copies of his little booklet, A Comet Strikes The Earth. This may or may not be what you have, but you might have someone check it out for you. The person should however return your money if you are not satisfied, even if it is from Meteor Crater. Thomas H. Re: [meteorite-list] Got had and need help!
What you might want to do is find one of the many references that explains how to tell a meteorite from a meteorwrong, go down the list, and check off all that apply (i.e., meteorites are magnetic to varying degrees. Shale is not.) Submit the list to the insurance company. You might also want to bust out the listing in the MetBull or other resource for Canyon Diablo and write a short note explaining that the material in this box DOES NOT fit the official description. Hope this helps; it SUCKS to be taken. Tracy Latimer __ Meteorite-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list
[meteorite-list] Got had and need help!
Hi listees! I have a problem and I'm hoping someone out there will be able to help me out. I recently purchased some material which was described as "Canyon Diablo Meteorites". Well, it turns out that I got a nice big baggie full of shale that came in a box with no return address. Gr. I've kicked myself about a dozen times for not checking out my source better. I feel like such a dope! Well, now this person refuses to let me send the material back for a refund, even though I have nicely explained why this material is not what I wanted and I am unhappy with it. Since I purchased the material with a credit card, I have decided to dispute the charge with the credit card company on the grounds that the material was misrepresented and that the seller refuses to take the merchandise back for a refund. I am really hoping that this can be resolved. Either way, I guess I learned a good lesson. The credit card company is asking for documentation explaining why the material sent is not the same as what was described. I have surfed around, but cannot find a good source for an article or explanation. I found a couple little things but nothing that really says what I need it to say in language that a non-collector (the claims person at Visa) would easily understand. Does anyone know where I could find a source for this? Or would some kind soul jot me off a paragraph I could use, and quote the source? If anyone does provide me with anything, your name would only go to Visa, not to the other party or anyone in the meteorite community.
