[meteorite-list] Meteor Crater Visitor Comment

2007-03-04 Thread MARK BOSTICK
Hello Everyone,

Other KMS members are taking care of the Lawn Show so I have today off.

Here is an e-mail I got today, which the sender said I could share and I
will since he is an Arizona resident. I get a few like e-mails a month,
likely due to what I wrote in 2003, linked below.

Would be nice if they took the Crater away from the Barringer family and
made it a National Park.

Nininger also felt this way, shown here:

Subject: Meteor Crater Staff Dr. Nininger

Just wanted to report that I visited the crater and museum in November of
'05 and was thoroughly disappointed that there was no mention of Dr.
Nininger anywhere. When I inquired why, two staff members laughed and said
that Dr. Nininger was a con man that sold admissions to the museum, knowing
full well that another admission would have to be paid at the entrance.
I was pretty disgusted by their ignorance and misrepresentation of the
facts. We didn't have a tour guide, which allowed us to take our time and
enjoy the site. I would liked to have questioned him/her, though, more
about Dr. Nininger.
Am new to the hobby of meteorite hunting and very much appreciate your
excellent website and the abundance of information provided.

2007-03-04 Thread Gaetan Cormier

Hello Mark and list,

Thanks for sharing this, it's a nice interview.

I was wondering... Who is the owner of the land were the old American
Meteorite Meseum is situated? It would be truly sad to see it eventually
completely destroyed. And yes, it would be nice to have a commemorative
plaque over there. Maybe we should make a fund raiser to have it done

Gaetan
