Re: [meteorite-list] Meteorite Falls in Toronto
Hi all, Marc Fries was kind enough to look into this event. He says, "Howdy Ruben I examined the radar data. Both the Buffalo and Fort Drum radars are in range, although both are out at fairly extreme range. The Canadian radar data is useless, unfortunately, because they only offer a pre-calculated rainfall product instead of the raw reflectivity data. Even Buzzard Coulee disappears in the rainfall product, because meteorites aren't rain. Duh. Anyways - I didn't see anything in the radar data. Word among the scientist-types up there is that this one probably eroded completely away, or almost completely away. If anything reached the ground it was pretty small." Rock On! Re: [meteorite-list] Meteorite Falls in Toronto
Hey Ruben and List. Thanks for the post. I am making this event my first hunting expedition this Saturday, as it is only 2 hours away from home. It will not be an easy one though. Any idea how one checks for, or how to get, Doppler history? Cheers, Craig __ Visit the Archives at http://www.meteoritecentral.com/mailing-list-archives.html Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list
Re: [meteorite-list] Meteorite Falls in Toronto
Hi Ruben, I emailed the Phil McCausland of the University of Western Ontario for an update. He is head of the Center for Planetary Science and Exploration and usually has the most up to date information on falls in Canada. I will keep the list updated if he emails me back.
