[meteorite-list] Meteorite from upstate New York
Hi All, Does anyone on the list know if there was a meteorite fall somewhere close to Watertown in upstate New York sometime in the first half of the 20th century. Just investigating an interesting story that has just been passed on to me. Re: [meteorite-list] Meteorite from upstate New York
Hi Graham and List, I love a good meteorite mystery. Searching the Met Bulletin for New York falls - http://tin.er.usgs.gov/meteor/metbull.php?sea=new+yorksfor=placesants=falls=valids=stype=containslrec=50map=gebrowse=country=Allsrt=namecateg=Allmblist=Allrect=phot=snew=0pnt=Normal%20tabledr=page=0 2 falls in the 1800's - Yorktown (1869), Bethlehem (1859) 20th century - Schenectady (1968), Peekskill (1992) But I don't see anything official from the early 20th. Hi Graham, The closest fit that I see is Schenectady H5; mass=283.3 g; Fell April 12,1968. Damaged a roof and was donated to the Schenectady museum.
