[meteorite-list] Santa Vitoria do Palmar - my Christmas Meteorite

2006-12-16 Thread bernd . pauli
Hello All,

Santa Vitoria do Palmar is a truly beautiful meteorite and it has many a story
to tell part of which can be found on pages 12-16 of the latest issue of "our"
Meteorite magazine. Thank you very much, Svend! What a pity the pictures are
"only" black & white but, a color version is available on Svend's homepage!

Santa Vitoria do Palmar is my very special Christmas meteorite, and here's
the story:

Well, not very many list members know that I needed surgery last November 27th.
A tumor had to be removed (the 2-inch scar still itches and pinches) and while
my Pauline and I were at the hospital waiting for the pathological results, we
were quite understandably a bit nervous ... would it be malignant, would it be
benign?

I tried not to brood too much and so I decided to take my Meteorite magazine
with me and read Svend's article while waiting for the results. I was soon
taken up so intensely that I almost forgot to worry about the impending results.

The result was: b e n i g n ! ... and so I decided I would like to own at
least a
small slice of this meteorite that I was reading about while waiting at the
hospital.

Svend's large slice on EBay was a bit too large for my budget (although it was
and
still is worth every cent the winnning bidder paid for it!) but I was lucky
enough
to acquire a 7.9-gram slice from Anne Black (she still has a 7.0-gram slice and
two
really large ones if you would like to own a piece of this beauty).

Now, I think I really don't have to tell you why this 7.9-gram part slice
rightly is
my very special Christmas meteorite and will never leave my meteorite
collection as
long as I live!

Thank you, Anne, and, to all listees and listoids: thanks for being able to
share with
all of you - near and far - Merry Christmas and a very happy Holiday Season
wherever
you are.

[meteorite-list] Santa Vitoria do Palmar (L3 chondrule wonder)

2007-01-08 Thread bernd . pauli
Hello List and Anne,

Hope you are prepared for some more eruptive enthusiasm ;-) When I came home
from
school at 4 o'clock this afternoon, my 7.9-gram slice of Santa Vitoria do Palmar
had finally arrived and still had some Denver, Colorado snow flakes sitting on
the
package :-)

How glad I am I purchased this slice from Anne! It has a very high chondrule
density,
some chondrules are as large as 4 millimeters (!) and there is a substantial
abundance
of large, golden troilite patches.

Thank you, Anne!

[meteorite-list] Santa Vitoria do Palmar meteorite finally official

2006-09-13 Thread info
To everybody interested & involved,

of the Bulletin has also been updated and we are happy to announce that the

sometimes winding road by submitting samples and complete find data to a

Our honoured list member Larry Lebofsky, chief editor of Meteorite Magazine,
was so kind to consider the publication of the complete story of the
discoveries and the analysis of the Santa Vitoria do Palmar meteorite in the
coming November issue. So everybody watch out for the coming issue and get a

We still keep three large slices of the SVdP meteorite, 600gm 175gm and 145gm
respectively, each with both, the shock-blackened and the light coloured
unaltered lithology. We will gladly deal with requests of scientific
institutions or public collections to enable further studies on this
exceptional meteorite. Please contact us for more information.

I would like to thank everybody involved, especially Dr. Ansgar Greshake for
his thorough classification as well as the finder Senor Correia and the curator
of the Museo Municipal Cel. Tancredo F. de Mello, Brazil, Senor Monzon, for
their countless contributions.

Best regards
