Re: [meteorite-list] meteorite display at the worlds oldest still working Planetarium
Dear List, Thanks a lot for all the kind replies, on and off-List. I was merely helping my friend (and List member) Gert Jan Netjes though, who had the initial contact with the planetarium and delivered most of the pieces. Honour should go to Gert Jan. The planetarium is reported to be the oldest still working Planetarium in the world (build from 1774 to 1781). It sounded like fun, and a nice opportunity to introduce people to the world of meteorites, so I agreed to participate. A photographic impression can be found at my website: http://www.asteroidchippings.com/Special_topics/Eise_Eisinga_Planetarium_Fra neker.html I think even if without the meteorite display, the Planetarium is definitely worth a visit when in the area. Re: [meteorite-list] meteorite display at the worlds oldest still working Planetarium
Well done! Rob, What you have done to advance the public's knowledge of meteorites by your generous contributions of time and materials is commendable. The meteoritical displays in that charming, historical planitarium wll now add a dimension to a visit that the place didn't have before. I had the pleasure of stopping for a snack in Franeker on an auto tour years agoand missed the planetarium. I was ignorant of meteorites and the finer details of the solar system at the time. Thank you for sharing. You bring credit to IMCA by your membership. When the discussion resumes about what IMCA and its members can do to advance our pursuit what you have done will be an example.
