[meteorite-list] removing oil from a slab?

2003-08-16 Thread Matt Morgan
Hi there:
I have an old slb of a meteorite that I want to remove the oil stains from
(I presume it was cut in oil). Anyone know the best and most effective
method? Thanks.

I have heard the best method is to bury it in diatomaceous
earth or kitty litter WITH NO CHEMICALS for several months.
When the material no longer sticks to it, it will have had all
the oil sucked out of it.
Good luck, Michael

Depends on the type. Usually acetone will do the job.
