RE: [meteorite-list] ebay listings, steve choner's attempt for a new group

2003-12-14 Thread Randy Mils

Chirsian and all:
The list policy is already clear. Policy#8 states - "Do not post - major advertisement- emails to the list - use a 'sale' link". This policy was later ammended on the list to require the word "AD" in the subject line so that list members would be clear that the email contained an ad.
I think the problem arrose when some list members posted their ebay auctions daily, spamming the list. For example one member in particular would say
"I have ebay auctions ending in 7 days" then "I have ebay auctions ending in 6 days", then "I have ebay auctions ending in 5 days", etc etc. You get the idea.
Members won't even quit fighting and using vulgar language on this list which is a much much bigger problem than theoccasional ebay ad announcement.
As long as the word "AD" appears in the subject, I do not see a problem as this allows all list members to decide for themselves if they wish to open an "AD" email.

Hi list, Hi Steve !

I think the idea to keep ebay announcements off this list has died.

Still many members like Michel Franco (sorry Michel but you are just only
ONE
example for what I want to say becuase you recently did it) have not
accepted Steve's idea.

So I don't know why I (or the others) should not make any announcements for
my (or their)
ebay auctions in future again.

Nobody cared about except very few members like
Mike Farmer, Dean Bessey, Matteo Chinellato, Phillipe Thomas, Me and two or
three others,
I THINK WE DID NOT REACH A NUMBER OF 10 OF MEMBERS who accepted this and now
these members
have a disadvantage as they did not post to the list since the ebay-group
Steve created exists!!

So I don't want to be one of these two who accepts the disadvantage of not
posting
ebay announcements to the REAL meteorite-list as long as others ignore not
posting ebay announcements.

We (all the members of this list) should find a solution. To decide if
announcements for ebay auctions are possible for ALL or NOT.

Maybe somebody has a solution for making a poll to let the members decide.

Art Jones, a question to you as first man of the list :

Is it possible to make a poll in this subject ?

I saw on different yahoo-lists that there are polls possible but I am not
aware how to make this here.

Could you find a soultion ?

I suggest a solution is asked, otherwise everybody makes what he wants.

Cheers,

Dear all,

I did not know about the word "AD" to be added in
the subject line and will do it from now on, when I indicate to the List that we
have new items for sale on our web site.
Sorry for my recent "AD", which wasn't indicated

Thomas..

You are right, of course. As this tread progressed, the word Ad was
used and I did not bother to verify the exact wording of the list policy but was
only referring to previous email. The spirit of the policy is that
advertisements are permitted as long as the subject line clearly states
so.

Thanks for posting the URL to the General List Policies. Maybe all who are concerned will take this opportunity to re-read them and realize that Art has already taken care of the situation and that we don't need any new wording or modification.
