haven't heard about Almahata Sitta here is an intro what you will find on my
auction on eBay

Up for auction is a micro Almahata Sitta meteorite (2008 TC3) which fell on 7
October 2008, 05:46 h local time (UT+3) in Nahr an Nil, Nubian Desert, Sudan.
Almahata Sitta classification is Ureilite, polymict, anomalous. Here is a
chance to own the many firsts that Alamahata Sitta has set in meteorite
history. The current market value is around $1500 a gram and here is a chance
to own a micro at a fraction of the cost before it sold out. Here is a video
link about Almahata Sitta meteorite (2008 TC3)...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoZ1WK7_L7c

What makes Almahata Sitta meteorite so special is that on October 6, 2008, a small asteroid called 2008 TC3 was discovered by the automated Catalina Sky Survey 1.5 m telescope at Mount Lemmon, Tucson, Arizona, and found to be on a collision course with Earth. This is the first time scientists were able to observer the course of a meteorite fall from space before it ending its journey in the Sudan Desert. What also makes this Almahatta Sitta even more unique is that it’s the first Ureilite meteorite to have traces of amino acids which scientist believe could have jump started life on Earth.

So please when you have a chance take a look at the auction at

Shawn,
You might want to make your own video to link your sale to.
This gentleman forgot to mention that it in fact did produce meteorites on the
ground and that is what you are selling.
And by the way. Does your sale include a microscope to view it with? Haha. Carl

All,
"This gentleman" didn't forget to mention anything. His name is Don Yeomans and
he has been the Director of NASA's NEO Program Office since it's inception in
1998. If I'm not mistaken the video was made the day of TC3's impact or the
next day, so at that the discovery of the first meteorite was still two months
in the future.

This is the model I have and the optics are great. The image is crystal
clear as long as your able to view the meteorite on a parallel plan. With
this model your able to rest it on the meteorite slice or jem jar to view
it. I also hold my meteorites and I am able to view them that way through
the mini Loupe. There are two light setting and both setting give great
light to view the meteorite.

When viewing my Allende with the 60x mini Loupe I was amazed by the amount
of structure I was able to view on the surface of the meteorite. I would
have to say it look like I was viewing the surface of foreign planet in some
spots of the meteorite. This Loupe will take you to a new level of viewing
your meteorites and you will spend hours of looking over your meteorites and
seeing new insights that you haven't been able to see with a 10x Loupe.

Nice! I just ordered one for $6.99 shipped:

Might be junk, but I'm willing to risk 7 bucks.

I've had some of the Radio Shack pocket microscopes as a kid (and even more
recently than that.) Optics aren't great, but not a bad tool/toy for the price
(though they used to be $9.99)

Hi Shawn and all,

I'd just like to point out that Catalina is NOT an automated survey.

There is a human validating each and every suspect.

Unfortunately the Meteoritical Society continues to leave this uncorrected in
listing for Almahata Sitta. Petr Jenniskens was informed of this mistake
immediately when he started saying this after the recovery of the meteorites
several months after TC3 was discovered. For some reason this misrepresentation
continues to be used in papers in which he is listed as a co-author.

Sorry if this seems to be picking nits, but our observers work very hard and we
feel that a primary reason we are so productive is because we are NOT automated.

Thanks
