Re: [meteorite-list] Celebrate ten 'earth years' of NEUSCHWANSTEIN , right now! ; -)

2012-04-08 Thread MexicoDoug

Dear Dieter and Neuschwanstein fans;

NEUSCHWANSTEIN / PRIBRAM year is ... 3.72 Earth years.

Thanks for the info! I wonder if this hypothesis of a meteoroid stream
(containing Pribram, Neuschwanstein is still viable.) It is one of
those coincidences that seems too good to be true (although the falls
were near each other in relatively, that doesn't seem to me important -
it is the orbits you guys determined nearly overlapping.

If the theory of a meteoroid stream were true ... I wonder how a
distribution can happen that only leaves boulders and cobbles ... and
not quadrillions of specks producing a new meteor shower (or am I
obsolete and is there an obscure April 6-8 meteor shower radiant in the
suspected meteor shower category requiring more data?). Perhaps by
considering leap year, the Julian days are even closer to being an
astronomical year ... to take it further into the realm of the
improbable by chance alone ...

The other similar meteorite coincidence that comes to mind is
Wethersfield, 1971 and 1982 - and bother are house hammers no less.
Now just imagine if they were April 6-8, like NEUSCHWANSTEIN / PRIBRAM
;-)

Oh my, Wethersfield 1971 is April 8. Happy Wethersfield Sunday today!

Kindest wishes
Doug

Hello Doug,

the length of a NEUSCHWANSTEIN / PRIBRAM year is 1358 days
or 3.72 Earth years.

Thank you Dieter, such a pleasure to hear from you about this fall you
were so closely involved in the chase. May 27 is too long to wait for
the anniversary of the two Bavarian mystery finders, so hopefully we
can see that picture soon.

Paul does a great service to the meteorite community with that
calendar; it's hard to believe he's done so much even when there are
undoubtably times he is swamped, so whenever he can exhibit this united
appearence of three stones, the result of blood, sweat, tears,
successes and spine-tingling excitement and emotional roller-coastering
in fantasyland, will be great.

For Pribram, three cheers for Bohemia! Grandpapa of them all. And
watch your heads this morning ;-) Maybe some respectable fireball was
registered with a similar radiant by luck this time? Since this is the
10 earth year anniversary of the NEUSCHWANSTEIN meteoric event, I'm now
wondering what you guys could remind us what was the length of a
NEUSCHWANSTEIN / PRIBRAM year? You know, we need to forge a
politically correct Solar system for the benefit of the little Robinson
Crusoe Neuschwaner stowaways, we need to speak in their terms, too !
;-)

thanks again

Hello Doug,

I had submitted just this picture that you desired on April 3 to Paul,
in order
to be released as MPOD on April 6.
Unfortunately Paul had already prepared other images for this week. But
he
promised to publish the picture of the three Neuschwanstein meteorites,
that
are on display in Noerdlingen, after Easter.

Today is a good occasion to remember the Pribram, Czechoslovakia fall of
April 7, 1959: the first meteorite fall ever with a heliocentric orbit
calculated.

Hallo Martin, Listees;

The offering of food in the video shows the extent of the hospitality

of the
Bavarians. Anyone aboard the meteoroid could feast

after their long voyage ;-), what self-respecting meteoroid wouldn't

touch
down for a feast at a magically enchanting castle.

That promotional poster looks like a fairytale - oh wait, It is!

Unfortunately the closest some of us can get to Neuschwanstein

is the castle in Disneyland (a cheap copy based on it) or in my case

not even
Disney World (ditto).

Would it be possible for anyone lucky to visit this fantastic event

to submit

Celebrate ten 'earth years' of NEUSCHWANSTEIN , right now! ;-)

Until the 23rd September there will be a special exhibition in the
Rieskrater-Museum in the famous Noerdlinger Ries
to commemorate the fall of the Neuschwanstein meteorite
on the 6th April 2002 , 22:20:18 CET (right now, exactly 10 years ago).

It is the first time that the three masses of the Neuschwanstein meteorite will
be shown together.

If you have the chance to go there, you should do so.
It is strongly recommended!

It is the first time that the three masses of the Neuschwanstein meteorite
will be shown together.

If you have the chance to go there, you should do so.
 It is strongly recommended!

One of my faves (having lived in Austin for many years) is ash creek. I
remember the news reporters saying it was man-made space debris.

Hi Mike,

well, it is obviously not the best video in which you see an actual meteor
falling, but
I like it because it is funny and unusual, a 'surveillance video' of a very

quirky and bizarre, with a touch of 'Blair Witch Project' in it.

Something one doesn't forget! ;-)

The question which video is the best recording of an actual fireball is
interesting though.

Which one would you suggest, Mike?

Peekskill (filmed from Halifax, Virginia),
Villalbeto de la Peña (filmed from Leon),
Buzzard Coulee (police video from Devon, Canada),
Mifflin (filmed from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, or from Portage, Wisconsin),
Maribo (filmed from Svensköp, Sweden)

or any other?

Best regards

Re: [meteorite-list] Celebrate ten 'earth years' of NEUSCHWANSTEIN , right now! ; -)

2012-04-06 Thread MexicoDoug

Hallo Martin, Listees;

The offering of food in the video shows the extent of the hospitality
of the Bavarians. Anyone aboard the meteoroid could feast after their
long voyage ;-), what self-respecting meteoroid wouldn't touch down for
a feast at a magically enchanting castle.

That promotional poster looks like a fairytale - oh wait, It is!
Unfortunately the closest some of us can get to Neuschwanstein is the
castle in Disneyland (a cheap copy based on it) or in my case not even
Disney World (ditto).

Would it be possible for anyone lucky to visit this fantastic event to
submit a picture of the NEUSCHWANSTEIN meteorite display to the Tucson
Meteorites MPOD for those of us stuck with a long-distance love affair
with the fairytale? Really that would be great for someone, somehow to
share a personal virtual visit, of just a picture. Who knows if a
family portrait will be possible again after the rocks are returned to
their owners...

Kindesy wishes
Doug
