Silly me, I did forget one more husband/wife asteroid pair (and not on your list, Ron). While you have Richardnorton, there is also 149243 Dorthynorton, sorry Dorthy! Also, since you have the two other authors, before there was the Tholin asteroid classification, there was a paper that created the three original asteroid classes: C, S, and M. The paper was by Clark Chapman, Dave Morrison, and Ben Zellner. You have 2409 Chapman and 2410 Morrison, but left out 2411 Zellner. Larry > > > There's nearly 300,000 numbered asteroids now. There's nearly 300,000 numbered asteroids now. All of them are eligible to be named, though I'm not sure how many of those have been named yet, but it's a long list. I have several named asteroids list on my Space Calendar http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/calendar Some interesting asteroids that may be of interest this list include: 1877 Marsden 2068 Dangreen 2074 Shoemaker 2099 Opik 2198 Ceplecha 2246 Bowell 2409 Chapman 2410 Morrison 2421 Nininger 2554 Skiff 2710 Veverka 2753 Duncan 2873 Binzel 2874 Jim Young 2887 Krinov 2929 Harris 2956 Yeomans 3066 McFadden 3123 Dunham 3169 Ostro 3173 McNaught 3192 A'Hearn 3255 Tholen 3259 Brownlee 3267 Glo 3594 Scotti 3635 Kreutz 3673 Levy 3693 Barringer 3783 Morris 4151 Alanhale 4255 Spacewatch 4337 Arecibo 4433 Goldstone 4446 Carolyn 4701 Milani 4766 Malin 4768 Hartley 4969 Lawrence 4783 Wasson 5000 IAU 5066 Garradd 5223 McSween 5430 Luu 5471 Tunguska 5553 Chodas 5682 Beresford 5811 Keck 5948 Longo 6030 Zolensky 6135 Billowen 6226 Paulwarren 6227 Alanrubin 6373 Stern 6434 Jewitt 6524 Baalke 6560 Pravdo 6639 Marchis 6775 Giorgini 7086 Bopp 7231 Porco 7273 Garyhuss 7291 Hyakutake 7392 Kowalski 7610 Sudbury 8721 AMOS 8734 Warner 8952 ODAS 9250 Chamberlin 9523 Torino 10001 Palermo 10799 Yucatan 11714 Mikebrown 12104 Chesley 12397 Peterbrown 12574 LONEOS 15058 Billcooke 17033 Rusty 17898 Scottsheppard 18725 Atacama 21459 Chrisrussell 21564 Widmanstatten 32096 Puckett 35334 Yarkovsky 48300 Kronk 64070 NEAT 73491 Robmatson 78756 Sloan 84225 Verish 99905 Jeffgrossman 118401 LINEAR 132904 Notkin 163800 Richardnorton 149244 Kriegh 195998 Skipwilson Ron Baalke __ Visit the Archives at http://www.meteoritecentral.com/mailing-list-archives.html Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list

I am aware of two pairings where a husband and wife both have asteroids named in their honor. In one case, the wife is on the list but the other is in astronomy (Richard should have known this): 118945 Rikhill 164215 Doloreshill and in the other case, the husband and the wife both have asteroids but due to their science education (the husband is on the list): 3439 Lebofsky 5052 Nancyruth Larry > There's another asteroid, that should be added to the list: > > (6371) Heinlein (after Dieter Heinlein) > > Best regards > > Dieter > German Firebal Network > www.dlr.de/feuerkugelnetz > > > - Original Message - > From: "Marco Langbroek" > To: "Meteorite List" > Sent: Wednesday, June 29, 2011 11:08 AM > Subject: Re: [meteorite-list] Named minor planets > > >>> Any idea how many and who? >>> >>> >>> Chris Spratt >> >> To make a small start: >> >> (163800) Richardnorton (after O. Re: [meteorite-list] Named minor planets
There are thousands of named asteroids. I'm not sure if anyone has complied a list yet, but it could be a rainy day task for someone who has the interest. If you go to the JPL Orbital Diagram page: http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/orbits/ You can enter the name of a candidate. To find all of the objects with that name contained in it, add an asterisk before and after the name. For example, for Rob Matson's rock, I entered *matson* If you follow this example too, you'll see two objects, 2586 Matson (1980 LO) & 73491 Robmatson (2002 PO164). 73491 Robmatson is a more obvious result because of the exact name match, but reading the citations helps confirm its named for the person you think it is. If there is only a single object with this name, it's page will appear automatically. Still confirm that it is for the person you believe it is. Such list would be helpful to know who has been so honored, but would also be helpful in pointing out any that are worthy but so far are missing. -- Richard Kowalski Full Moon Photography IMCA #1081 - Original Message - From: Chris Spratt To: "meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com" Cc: Sent: Tuesday, June 28, 2011 8:25 PM Subject: Re: [meteorite-list] Named minor planets Any idea how many and who?
