The biggest missing area is that this only covers the REST API back-end server. Ideally, Static Web Content for UIs such as the community-app should also as easily to be able to be served by the new standalone server. The focus here is for end-user, not for developers, as during development grunt serve will be what most people will continue to use. According to http://spring.io/blog/2013/12/19/serving-static-web-content-with-spring-boot and http://docs.spring.io/spring-boot/docs/1.2.0.RELEASE/reference/htmlsingle/#boot-features-spring-mvc-static-content Spring boot can serve any static content present in a folder called /static or /public in its classpath. What's missing is that we probably should start introducing a mifos.sh + mifos.bat launch script, which wraps java -jar mifos.war and does something like (I haven't tested this myself yet) java -jar mifos.war -cp web, or java -cp mifos.war:web ..mainclass.. if -jar and -cp cannot be combined. If the Gradle build script producing the dist could then be extended to have a web/ folder in which static content can be dropped, we'd be cool. This could be solved in a number of ways, best discussed on the public devel mailing to reach agreement which way to go: 1. The mifosng-provider Gradle build, in the dist task, could bundle the static community-app downloaded from... where?? Versioninig? 2. A Git sub module in mifosng-provider could include community-app. 3. Another new parent repo could include both mifosng-provider and community-app to bundle them. MIFOSX-1756 is a pre-requisite which should be resolved first.

How about looking at it simply from the point of view of the source - reproducible for you or not - there clearly IS a circular dependency between the beans - I have to insist that I think this is broken - do you see what I mean? It didn't seem to do anything, so I started debugging why not, and found it's because most of the rows (except one) in the job table in my local DB had a job_key set, and this caused an NPE in JobRegisterServiceImpl.constructJobKey(String). Indeed all those jobs did have an exception recorded in their initializing_errorlog column (but I only saw that late - better to also notify admin in regular log). I then debugged the error in initializing, and found that this was due to JobRegisterServiceImpl @PostConstruct loadAllJobs() = scheduleJob() = getScheduler() = createScheduler() = getGlobalListener() = getBeanObject() failing for bean named schedulerStopListener (= class SchedulerStopListener implements JobListener), because that @Autowired injects JobRegisterService - which we are just just about to finish constructing (remember, we're in @PostConstruct) - Spring doesn't seem to like this? I suspect that this may have been introduced in the commit added scheduler stop API which

The focus here would be on the REST API/Java interface/DB. It's acceptable if this work doesn't actually really send an SMS yet at all, but that your for now hard-coded in Spring config say TestLoggingSMSGateway implementation of a TBD SMSGateway just logs the SMS to stdout via SLF4j! This issue would not necessarily have to include any UI work - others could build that on top of this work in other later JIRA issues dependant on this one. This issue would require MIFOSX-754.

After having done a little bit of research into this, my suggestion is that we start with an interface to FrontlineSMS. The reason for this is that we would get well working tested OOB one-click-configurable support for Nexmo, Clickatell, World-Text, Twilio, txtNation and SMSSync! The downside, of course, is requiring either a locally installed FLS, or an account on their new Cloud infrastructure (which has the Connections above available with 1 click - I've tried it out)... we could have other implementation directly connecting to those listed, and more, later - but this making this our first built-in provider seems reasonable, to me. The foundation for this will already be in the platform code you'll find, because by the time you read this you should find that outgoing message will be stored in the DB. The task here is to add some kind of enum Pending/Sent/Delivered/Declined status, and so initially accept new messages as Pending, then try sending them to whatever is the currently configured gateway, set it to Sent when that returned without exception, and then set up some cronjob-type thing (Quartz?) in Mifos X which uses some new method you would have to create on the generic SMSGateway kind of interface to poll if message id so-and-so did in fact go through, and update status to Delivered. And something similar for Declined. As far as I'm concerned, it's not terribly important which of the many (many) available SMS gateways you use here, as this task is more about illustrating that alternative gateways than the FLS support built under MIFOSX-771 could be built - pick whichever one has the easiest API? The idea is that other tasks like this will allow others in the future to build more gateways, strongly inspired by / copying this work. All going well, this should just be about implementing a Java interface API which should exist by then. Infrastructure tasks like DB updates and retry (see MIFOSX-772) should NOT have to be handled by the new implementation you would build here. What you do however have to look into is how your new SMS gateway would be configured by a future end-users, and how a new Admin menu entry (and REST service with it?) would configure choosing between the FLS one from MIFOSX-771 and this new one.
