On Mon, 2012-07-23 at 16:20 +, Paul McCall wrote: The problem tower's OSPF state for the desired new leg is dr other if that is a clue This is not really a state per se. OSPF State describes a relationship status in terms of adjacency. This is visible on the neighbors tab in RouterOS. It will be either init, two-way, exchange, full or one of about 2 or 3 other possible states. What you are referring to is something that happens upon OSPF startup on a network that is a broadcast type network (such as ethernet, frame-relay, wireless, etc.) On these network types, the routers on a given network segment will initiate an election to determine which device will be the DR (designated router), BDR (backup dr) and which will be simply participants in the network. This election is based first on the OSPF priority of each interface in the segment. The priority is configured per interface. In RouterOS, the default priority is 1. Highest priority wins the election. In the event of a tie in this election, the highest (32-bit value) RouterID will win. In this election, second place will become the BDR. On a router, each of it's ospf interfaces is either DR, BDR or dr other (that is a routeros term). A router may have various status on each of it's ospf interfaces. I guess I may as well give you the troubleshooting tips for this type of issue as well. When you are first turning OSPF up on an interface (adding the network setting), you should first ensure that the interface was added (dynamic) to Routing-OSPF-Interfaces tab. You will see a neighbor count - this would have been your first indication that there was a communication problem between this router and the others on the network. You SHOULD have exactly the same number of neighbors on every router on the segment. In your case, you probably did NOT. The problem router was not seeing all the other routers on the segment. Looking on the Routing-OSPF-Neighbors tab would have shown you which router(s) it WAS seeing, along with the state. You should always see state full with the DR and BDR, and 2-way with all other routers (grouped per interface), UNLESS you ARE either the DR or BDR, in which case you will see ALL other routers with state full. I will not bore you all with any other scenarios, but by looking at these things on all routers on the segment would allow you to determine where the problem was located in this instance. -- * Butch Evans* Professional Network Consultation * * http://www.butchevans.com/ * Network Engineering * * http://store.wispgear.net/ * Wired or Wireless Networks * * http://blog.butchevans.com/ * ImageStream, Mikrotik and MORE!* * NOTE THE NEW PHONE NUMBER: 702-537-0979 * ___ Mikrotik mailing list Mikrotik@mail.butchevans.com http://www.butchevans.com/mailman/listinfo/mikrotik Visit http://blog.butchevans.com/ for tutorials related to Mikrotik RouterOS

In the neighbors do all the connected routers show up? I've seen on some of our MT routers where I will set up the route in OSPF and it will not propagate the route. I have to take the IP address out and network out and put them back in address first then the OSPF network. -- Christopher Tyler MTCRE/MTCNA/MTCTCE/MTCWE Total Highspeed Internet Services 417.851.1107 - Original Message - From: Paul McCall pa...@pdmnet.net To: Mikrotik discussions mikrotik@mail.butchevans.com Sent: Monday, July 23, 2012 11:17:54 AM Subject: Re: [Mikrotik] Need OSPF help ! Chris, We have a main BH down on a tower, and for some reason, the OSPF didn't get setup on it's desired second link (I think we had planned a better 2nd link and it never got done I discovered). It does have a weak 3rd leg on the Uplink side of a 900AP on another tower (that is actually there for another tower to use IT as its backup), so I can get to it the tower with the problem at least. Anyway, so I setup OSPF on its second link and OSPF sees it, but no traffic goes through it. Yes, its weighted properly. I even shutoff the other working (weak) leg trying to force the issue, without success Paul -Original Message- From: mikrotik-boun...@mail.butchevans.com [mailto:mikrotik-boun...@mail.butchevans.com] On Behalf Of Chris Tyler Sent: Monday, July 23, 2012 12:13 PM To: Mikrotik discussions Subject: Re: [Mikrotik] Need OSPF help ! I think the dr-other just means that the designated router is the preferred router not this one. Glad I was actually of some assistance. -- Christopher Tyler MTCRE/MTCNA/MTCTCE/MTCWE Total Highspeed Internet Services 417.851.1107 - Original Message - From: Paul McCall pa...@pdmnet.net To: Mikrotik discussions mikrotik@mail.butchevans.com Sent: Monday, July 23, 2012 11:37:07 AM Subject: Re: [Mikrotik] Need OSPF help ! CRAP! That was it. What threw me off was the interface on the destination TIK has a Canopy AP that is already serving another SM/Tik with OSPF successfully, or so I thought. Turns out that someone swapped the AP out on that tower and set the SM isolation on Option 1. Since the OTHER tower that was running off that AP had multiple paths, it continued to work! So,, yes turned off SM isolation and away we go!
