USB_PRODUCT_NOVATEL_U760 are both DEV_UMASS4 (they call it
U3GFL_SCSI_EJECT).

Downloaded, installed - same exact problem. Tried -alpha as well. Same
problem. I assumed alpha worked...

Thanks.

Re: Comparing large amounts of files

2009-12-29 Thread J.C. Roberts
Sorry for the additional post, but it's a "fun" problem when you consider
the possible messed up file/path names that could be created by a raw
database dump. I made some improvements to the example script to make
sure messed up file/path names are handled correctly.

#!/bin/ksh

# There are plenty of caveats to be aware of to make sure you process
# strings (paths and file names) correctly.
#
# The first is the built-in ksh 'echo' will strip backslashes by
# default, unless used with the '-E' switch. This is the opposite of
# bash where the backslashes are not stripped by default, but the '-e'
# switch forces stripping. The easy answer is to just use printf(1),
# rather than worry if you got the 'echo' correct.
#
# Another caveat is when using 'while read', you need to use the '-r'
# flag to prevent stripping of backslashes.
#
# Also, quoting your variables is highly recommended. This prevents a
# number of issues including odd behavior due to spaces in strings.

# --- test setup
# clean up
rm -rf d1 d2 d3
rm -rf "d\ 4"
rm -rf "d 5"
rm -rf "./-d"
rm -rf 'x\\ 2'
rm -rf '*x'
rm -rf 'x"x'
rm all.txt unq.txt dup.txt

# We need some seriously messed up directory names.
mkdir d1 d2 d3 "d\ 4" "d 5" "./-d" 'x\\ 2' '*x' 'x"x'

# And we need some seriously messed up file names in each directory.
for i in `ls -1 ../0[1,2,3,4,5].png`; do
  cp "$i" "./d1/`printf "%s" "$i" | sed -e 's/0/1/' -e 's/^..\///'`";

It is fixed in Tor's stable release already:

http://archives.seul.org/tor/announce/Dec-2009/msg0.html

Changes in version 0.2.1.21 - 2009-12-21
 o Major bugfixes:
   - Work around a security feature in OpenSSL 0.9.8l that prevents our
handshake from working unless we explicitly tell OpenSSL that we
are using SSL renegotiation safely. We are, of course, but OpenSSL
0.9.8l won't work unless we say we are.

In "master" there's even a fix for the so far unreleased OpenSSL
0.9.8m already, see:
https://git.torproject.org/checkout/tor/master/ChangeLog

In fact to upgrade the port is quite easy, I do that myself with the
alpha version sometimes. Usually it's just replacing the version
number in the port's Makefile and then "make makesum && make package",
check if everything is ok and install the new package.

More info here: http://www.openbsd.org/faq/ports/guide.html#PortsUpdate

It doesn't solve your problem, but Marco Pereboom's assl is relevant to
your last question: http://www.peereboom.us/assl/html/openssl.html

Thanks Philip and Kili. Sorry about the non-bug report. The good news

My apologies. For some reason I missed that the pf FAQ hasn't been
updated to the latest current snapshots.

I'm assuming sysctl net.inet.ip.forwarding is set correctly.

Your last matching rule looks like it may be the problem.

net.inet.ip.forwarding is what i was missing. I feel silly now.
I've been doing snapshot upgrades for the past few years and
just the other night did a fresh install to help clean up the old files
stuck around from all the upgrades. I wonder what else I forgot to
carry over to the new install. thanks

{{ USB_VENDOR_NOVATEL, USB_PRODUCT_NOVATEL_ZEROCD2 }, 0},

{{ USB_VENDOR_NOVATEL, USB_PRODUCT_NOVATEL_ZEROCD2 }, DEV_UMASS1},

then try DEV_UMASS2, DEV_UMASS3 & DEV_UMASS4 if that doesn't work.

Openssl patch breaks Tor

2009-12-29 Thread nixlists
Hi.

The OpenBSD 4.6 errata OpenSSL TLS renegotiation patch
ftp://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/patches/4.6/common/004_openssl.patch
breaks stable release of Tor as described here (exactly the same issue
on FreeBSD):

http://archives.seul.org/tor/relays/Dec-2009/msg00014.html

Tor is not vulnerable to the attack when used with the broken OpenSSL,
but the patch stops it from working correctly as described in the
above thread. The issue is fixed only in the alpha version of Tor, and
AFAIK won't be fixed in stable:

https://blog.torproject.org/blog/tor-0226-alpha-released

I don't want to run alpha Tor, or use broken OpenSSL. What should I do
to make stable Tor run (I am not a coder, just a user - so I can't put
up and hack up :) )?

Are there any plans to replace OpenSSL with something more secure?

Thanks.

Gah! You're right; I was careful to use printf instead of echo on the
input side but forget to do so on the output side.

So it's good news/bad news, J.C.: the good news is your script will
work as desired with the -r option, the bad news is that the time you
spent filing a bug was wasted. Sorry about that!

That's backslash interpretation performed by the echo shell builtin.
For example:

$ echo 'foo\\bar'
foo\bar
$ echo -E 'foo\\bar'
foo\\bar
$ printf '%s\n' 'foo\\bar'
foo\\bar

> $ bash
> bash-4.0$ printf 'foobar\n' | { read -r foo; echo "$foo"; }

In bash, the echo shell builtin seems to have opposite defaults than the
one in ksh:
$ bash
$ echo -e 'foo\\bar'
foo\bar

The performance of a single core Atom is about half that of a Celeron
of the same clock rate. For example, the Atom N270 found in many
netbooks such as the Eee PC can deliver around 3300 MIPS and 2.1
GFLOPS in standard benchmarks, compared to 7400 MIPS and 3.9
GFLOPS for the similarly clocked (1.73 GHz) Pentium M 740.

shlib.c:#define STANDARD_SEARCH_DIRS"/usr/lib"

is the define you are really looking for.

The DEFAULT_PATH is part of the never really used 'prebind' system,
much like prelink on linux. Why qte is there is probably a good question,
perhaps it slipped in when I was originally developing the prebind code.
Around that time I had been playing with Qt.

The system normally adds additional search paths that can be displayed
using:
ldconfig -r | head -2

These paths are added with the 'shlib_dirs' variable that is set in /etc/rc,
/etc/rc.conf and potentially /etc/rc.conf.local.

The tool only uses /usr/lib to be as conservative as possible, it allows the
user (or startup environment) to control the addition of other directories.

However this does not explain the original problem you were having, I
would suggest running the application with 'LD_DEBUG' environment set
eg: LD_DEBUG='' a.out [args]

This will cause the dynamic linker to be verbose about it's actions.

Another question about mod_perl in chroot

2009-12-29 Thread Chris Bennett

A while back, I asked a question about running mod_perl in chroot.
I got good answers and had good success running two of my virtual hosts
on my laptop while traveling (with then -current).

I was able to get a lot of important work done.

However, my server has a few other virtual hosts.
I have a few cgi scripts, which I wanted to run under PerlRun, for
easier fix for now.

Another has a forum which is running under Registry::BB

My server is running 4.5 and I was planning on working out all the
details and then upgrading to 4.6

However, I cannot get either PerlRun or the Registry::BB scripts to work
with chroot empty of perl and mysql stuff

So to make sure, before asking a question here, I downloaded httpd.conf,
put just one host on it with PerlRun script.
Works on my Desktop in PerlRun without anything Perlish in chroot (As I
would have expected/hoped for)

My Desktop runs recent -current

I will try Registry:BB item next, but first,

Do I just have my server files a mess or is there a bug in older mod_perl?
If there is a bug, I will just upgrade or fresh re-install to -current

Thanks
Chris Bennett

ldconfig: default path?

2009-12-29 Thread Toni Mueller
Hi,

I've just seen a program fail to work, saying that it can't load a
shared library (but a different one on each invocation - this is an SMP
machine). Then I found out that /usr/local/lib was not part of the
scanned directories. Looking into

http://www.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb/src/libexec/ld.so/ldconfig/library.c?rev=1.2;content-type=text%2Fplain

I see this:

#define DEFAULT_PATH "/usr/lib:/usr/X11R6/lib:/usr/local/qte/lib"

(the man page didn't tell me what the default paths were)

It would be nice if someone could enlighten me about why there's a
provision for Qt, and why /usr/local/lib is not part of the default
path.

TIA!

Kind regards,

I timed the build and install on an N270 with 1GB memory. I used the standard
procedure for following -stable (http://www.openbsd.org/stable.html). There's
nothing unusual about this machine other than softraid crypto:

internal-sftp and umask

2009-12-29 Thread Lars Nooden
I'm looking at the umask option in sshd_config for the sftp subsystem in
sshd from the dec 27 snapshot of current for i386. According to the man
page for sftp-server '-u' ought to set the umask for the sftp session.

I'd like to use a specific umask in conjunction with the ChrootDirectory
directive so this might be easiest with the internal-sftp method.

However, I'm having trouble getting the syntax correct with either sftp
subsystem. Neither of the tries below seem to affect the umask:

Subsystem sftp/usr/libexec/sftp-server -u 077
Subsystem sftp/usr/libexec/sftp-server -u 0077
Subsystem sftpinternal-sftp -u 077

The middle try gives the following in sshd's logs:

debug1: session_input_channel_req: session 0 req subsystem
subsystem request for sftp
debug1: subsystem: exec() /usr/libexec/sftp-server -u 0077

What is the correct way to set the umask for the internal-sftp subsystem?

Hey all, I ran into a snag I haven't been able to take care of yet while
trying to get a driver made for my edgeport device.
I am hoping for some guidance, so I'll do my best to post what I've read and
done to make it easier to help me.(Plus I don't want anyone thinking I am
posting here blindly without some extensive code and google reading)...

I haven't been able to get my hands on any documentation for the device.
I've tried to contact the author of the linux driver, but he said he didn't
have any documentation and he only worked on the older models that didn't
have the TI chipset.. So I attempted to contact the other names listed in
the sources in the linux driver, but nobody else responded...

To make a long story somewhat short, here is a link to the sources I have
been looking at while trying to write my OpenBSD driver:
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=blob;f=drivers/usb/serial/io_ti.c;h=d4cc0f7af400d0133653e4e0515b25a131e2a37f;hb=HEAD

Here is a link to my main file uep.c:
http://pastebin.ca/1730689

Here is a link to uep.h:
http://pastebin.ca/1730690

Here is a link to a dmesg after connecting my device and attaching my new
driver:
http://pastebin.ca/1730693

I've added a section to the files.usb file in /usr/src/sys/dev/usb for my
new driver as follows:
# Inside Out Edgeport
deviceuep
attachuep at uhub
filedev/usb/uep.cuep

I do not know for a fact this is correct, I may be wanting to use ucom(I'm
hoping I can) later..

To finally get to my problem.. I am trying to read the manufacturing
information off of the device.. but every time I call usbd_do_request I get
error 11 returned back to me meaning 'NO POWER'..

I don't quite understand why I'm getting this message.. The other devices
I've looked at don't do anything special before trying to read memory from
the device, nor does the linux driver as far as I can tell.
I've been reading uberry.c, umsm.c, and uvideo.c trying to find out the
order in which the usbd_* functions are called, but it doesn't appear that I
am doing anything special or different in my driver that would make it not
work..

furthermore.. I've read through the usbd_do_request_flags_pipe function
inside usbdi.c, and I can't see anywhere in the function where it returns
USBD_NO_POWER.. so I am confused as to why i'm getting that message.. the
only function that has a possibility of returning NO_POWER as far as I can
tell is the usbd_set_config_index function.

I hope this email has provided enough correct information to allow someone
smarter than myself to tell me what I am not doing correctly..

If there's anything that I left off, please let me know and I will get
whatever information is necessary.

Thank you all for your time, I appreciate it.

Is it so? snaplen is described as:

 -s snaplen
Analyze at most the first snaplen bytes of data from each pack-
et rather than the default of 116. 116 bytes is adequate for
IPv6, ICMP, TCP, and UDP, but may truncate protocol information
from name server and NFS packets (see below). Packets truncat-
ed because of a limited snaplen are indicated in the output
with ``[|proto]'', where proto is the name of the protocol lev-
el at which the truncation has occurred. Taking larger snap-
shots both increases the amount of time it takes to process
packets and, effectively, decreases the amount of packet
buffering. This may cause packets to be lost. You should lim-
it snaplen to the smallest number that will capture the proto-
   col information you're interested in.

So my understanding of the parameter is that it is the portion of a
packet that will be passed to the application using libpcap (in this
case - tcpdump). Is that incorrect understanding?

Ah, to a user like myself this sounds more like the factor limiting
BPF potential. With tcpsendspace being 256K obviously I missed this
one.

BPF is implemented as a ring buffer if it overflows it will drop packets.
That's why tcpdump is printing the statistics at the end:
4 packets received by filter
0 packets dropped by kernel

If you tcpdump with a snapsize of 2000 as shown above you will run out of
the default bpf bufsize very quickly since the default is 32k and I guess
you cranked up your tcp buffers to much bigger numbers so that bpf has no
chance to queue the incomming packets, call userland and be done with them
before the 32k buffer overflows. You may want to look into sysctl
net.bpf.bufsize.

tcpdump misses output packets on current

2009-12-29 Thread Denis Doroshenko
Hi,

as I mentioned earlier, I have a test FTP/HTTP server running
OpenBSD-current on HP notebook Compaq nc6000, and I increased tcp send
space to make it send stuff faster.

In my earlier mail I mentioned, that when it sends stuff really fast
(a box besides downloads a file via fast ethernet link) bge0 stops
transmission (my ssh sessions pauses too) and I see a warning on the
console about bge watchdog timeout and reset of the device. If the
transmission of data is stopped by the time the bge resets, it
recovers. Otherwise it freezes for some time with the watchdog warning
again.

Today I tried to download a 4MB file from nearby test linux server to
that FTP server of mine and had

tcpdump -i eth0 -s 2000 -w capture.pcap host linux.test.server

command running and then I find difference between the results of
tcpdump run on the linux server and the one run on OpenBSD. The linux
one shows 4847 packets captured, OpenBSD one shows 4505. Also OpenBSD
capture loaded in Wireshark (ver. 1.2.2) shows several bunches of TCP
ACK entitled "TCP ACKed lost segment". This is the conclusion of the
Wireshark TCP analysis, which says the capture file contains ACKs to a
TCP segments that are missing from the capture file.

The server IPv4 setup is trivial, static IP, static default route. The
server also has gif0 configured to a IPv6 provider (if it counts
here), with IPv6 default route being set to the tunnel. The box also
has a pf ruleset that allows SSH inside from particular hosts and does
pass out [keep state], block in.

Can it be that BPF isn't getting all the packets being sent?

Thanks!

[OT]
I can contest the physical ruggedness thingy -- about an year and half
ago, I had a nasty fall, and my X60 banged on the concrete floor on
its lower right hand vertex. The fall was bad, because my backpack
took my entire weight when I slipped sideways and fell down, with the
Thinkpad vertext touching the ground first, followed by me. :-) It
only sustained a break on that corner, and on the LCD top corner, but
not a single functional issue has it developed since then.

Sure, I have no data to backup the ruggedness of T and W, but I call
*this* as reasonably rugged.
[/OT]

So yes, I also find the Thinkpads' to be a better option
aesthetically, but that's just me. I have been running OpenBSD on X60
with "standard" configuration, and every necessary thing works just
fine.

Ah, but don't get the X60 since it has "known" heating issues in most
configurations, where, due to poor ventilation, the wireless card
heats up a lot, and your right palm faces the heat! X61 tried to fix
it by having an additional fan (some configurations), and a exhaust
vent on the right side. You can stick a USB cooling fan underneath,
and it is okay.

Your compile times seems to be the same as my Acer Aspire One with a N270.

The N270 is hypertheading so adding -j3 will save 20 minutes on a make
build.

I guess adding -j5 or something like that to make build would cut the time
even futher since you have a dual core cpu.

Has anybody else experienced these same performance slowdowns or is it just me?

Thanks

Atoms are a lot slower than Pentium M too. But then, you don't see
many Pentium-Ms with 700+ minute battery runtime...

I haven't timed it (I'd usually ssh to another machine and build
there) but that sounds about right.
