2010-09-17 Thread Francisco Valladolid
Thanks for the replys, I'm reading your mails with much attention.

I had OpenBSD in my home/office acting as AP/Firewall.
A months ago, I run my website using the blogsum software under 4.6,
whenever, I don't have experience handling multiple users under
chroot, and web services for many users.

Regards.

Responsibility? What OS do you expect will recommend in an OpenBSD
list?

Because the level of detail was false. Around 1997 or so,
board vendors started changing the chips on devices rapidly,
without changing the names of their devices.

Maintaining lists is not programming.

I've used OpenBSD for a couple of years now as
access-point/gateway/dns/dhcp/web-server/svn-server in a medium sized
environment with no issues (except MANUALLY screwing up, but that's
just my fault).

Since you've used OpenBSD for some time, you must know it's greatly
stable and secure.

If you ever run into trouble, you'll always have an excellent
documentation to turn to.

Remember; a software program is as good as it's documentation.
OpenBSD's documentation is the best.

Just be sure that whoever wants this server (in case it's not for
you), won't want ridiculous fancy GUIs to monitor/configure
everything.

Other than that, I'd say go for it.

yes - the difficulty of trying to maintain multiple sets of (nearly)
identical information in a number of places.

for many device classes, the www pages were shortened to just point to
the man pages, which should be the definitive place to list supported
models. so for the hardware you are wondering about, see the relevant
man page.

If you do 'ifconfig ral0 down; ifconfig ral0 up' on the hostap box
it might temporarily fix things (when I used OpenBSD for APs I had

hostapd deauthentication every 5 seconds

2010-09-17 Thread Joe Martel
Hi Misc,

I have used OpenBSD 4.7 on a PCEngines ALIX to create a wireless access point
(AP).

I am running hostapd, primarily to log auth and deauth of stations from my
AP.
After 72 hours of excellent running, my station loses wireless connectivity.

/var/log/daemon reveals that:
 * AP sends a deauthentication to station
 * Station sends an association request
 * AP responds with association response
 * AP sends a deauthentication to station
 * Repeat to fade

I have read the manpage for hostapd, but I don't know where to look next.
Have had a brief look at the source of hostapd - I'm no developer, but nothing
jumps out at me.
Any suggestions appreciated!

(attached hostapd.conf, /var/log/daemon, dmesg)

Cheers now,
Joe.

It can be outdated translation or even wrong translation. So your best
bet is http://www.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/man.cgi?query=sf&arch=amd64&sektion=4

The spanish translation is not maintained at the moment and is therefore
not up to date. The mentioned page http://www.openbsd.org/es/amd64.html
was translated almost 6 years ago...

Spanish hardware list is more detailed

2010-09-17 Thread Hugo Osvaldo Barrera
I wanted to know if the "Adaptec Quartet64 ANA-62044" was supported on
OpenBSD, and started to google around, only to find that the *spanish* list
of supported hardware has a greater level of detail when compared to the
english version.
I found that the entire "ethernet adapters" section is by far more detailed
in it's spanish version:

http://www.openbsd.org/es/amd64.html
http://www.openbsd.org/amd64.html

While the english verision just says "Adaptec \"Starfire\" AIC-6915 based
PCI adapters", the spanish version says the same, and a list of four know
supported adapters.

It's not an issue for me, since I live in Argentina, but I just wanted to
point this out, in case it help someone / there's a chance of these detailes
being passed over to the english version, since it can be a real time-saver.

Thanks for your reply, but thats not what I want. I want the traffic in the
lan_limit queue to be limited to ~95% of my link to keep the response time
low. If I let lan_limit borrow bandwidth, it will exhaust my link.

I just found this message in the archives, which seems to show a similar
issue:

By me happens this when the machine on which is the ntpd is running, is not
available, no network or hasnot booted up yet.
Yes, it waits several minutes.
