Is this information helpful...

john@rothbard ~$ ulimit -a
core file size (blocks, -c) unlimited
data seg size (kbytes, -d) 524288
file size   (blocks, -f) unlimited
max locked memory (kbytes, -l) 1354329
max memory size (kbytes, -m) 4059940
open files  (-n) 128
pipe size(512 bytes, -p) 1
stack size  (kbytes, -s) 4096
cpu time   (seconds, -t) unlimited
max user processes  (-u) 128
virtual memory  (kbytes, -v) 528384

I need to change this one in login.conf or in my .profile...
max memory size (kbytes, -m) 4059940

There is no manpage for ulimit.

Re: Giving java apps more memory

2011-11-18 Thread Andres Perera
you can patch the apps to use setrlimit()

you can write a small sh wrapper that sets ulimits and execs your app

you can also set your defaults in /etc/login.conf or ~/.profile

depends on what you want

i use gimp and ff so login.conf/.profile is really more sensible than
wrapping all the monster apps

OpenBSD is (rightly) famed for the man pages:

man ports

Which also links you to the excellent FAQs.

openports.se is a very useful resource and I'm glad it is there - but my
understanding is that it is not an "official" part of the project.

You might also want to read this ... http://www.openbsd.org/mail.html

Misc,

I've had troubles with eclipse and anjuta. Eclipse does not want to
run, anjuta seems to be missing it's symbol browser in anjuta-extras.
Anjuta actually works, but when I open a project it gives me an error.
I've already posted what it is, so search. Is there an IDE that works?
What is it? Perhaps I should just learn emacs. Though, I really like
anjuta. Are there any IDE recommendations apart anjuta, eclipse, and
vim and emacs editors available?

gkrellm and uuid's for filesystems

2011-11-18 Thread John Tate
Misc/Ports,

gkrellm has an OpenBSD specific shortcoming. Depending on what USB
drives are plugged in, my softraid could be anywhere between sd2-sd6.
gkrellm needs to be reconfigured every time. The OpenBSD port of
gkrellm could instead support the uuids, and always display my two
physical AHCI drives and the softraid. It's a little annoying having
to configure gkrellm after every different boot scenario.

Also, where do I get started on learning to make ports? I don't
necessarily mean contribute but where are the docs for a wannabe
contributor?

Hi Jonathan,

I used the i386-uniprocessor prior to 4.7 - long time ago :-) I have

the T60 for at least 5 years now. When the locks did occur I usually

went to bed and rebooted the next morning. As I am not technically

skilled enough I was not able to figure out if the problem was the

kernel - or my bad line (living in the country side we cannot rely 100%

on the "service" our provider 'Telekom' provides... ). Reading your

post reminded my of this issue I have then noticed.

Right now I am using the i386-current-MP-kernel and everything seems to

work fine. At present I am rsync'ing my home-directory and only Gkrellm

tells my about the activities going on.

I just once tried the VESA video driver - a veeery long time ago. I

think it didn't solve my questions then and just reinstalled

everything. Probably made some mistake.

I was thinking of trying the AMD64-multiprocessor the other day - but

not on the T60 but on an iMac my father did not familiarize with and

gave to me. Unfortunatelly it has an Nvidia graphics card... :-(

The T60 has emerged to be my prime workhorse so I don't dare to change

to much at present. If this would be a major help to you I will take

the time and reinstall the original harddisk and give the AMD64 a try.

Have a nice weekend!

Take care,

getting dhcpd synchronisation to work

2011-11-18 Thread Imre Oolberg

Hi!

I am having hard time getting dhcpd with synchronisation to work. What i
have is two OpenBSD v. 5.0 working in the same subnet as test dhcp
servers and third as dhcp client. Each computer has actually two network
interfaces, one for remote access and the other for playing with dhcp.
They are vmware esx guests and pf is disabled, also they are fresh v.
5.0 installs. Time is the same on all.

To see how dhcp syncronisation works i thought to start with such an
aim: servers have simple dhcpd.conf which configures ip address from a
range to the client and does so with short lease-time. Then client
starts renewing it lease and as a sign on successful sync i expect to
see then /var/db/dhcpd.leases files are kept identical on both dhcp
servers. (Please comment if this is valid expectation.)

As a result my client gets leases and dhcp servers exchange udp packets
but no apparent leases file syncronisation is seen. I would be thankful
if you could point me to the right direction.

Dhcp servers have such dhcpd.conf (not digest identical but content
identical)

# cat /etc/dhcpd.conf
option domain-name "auul";
option domain-name-servers 10.0.9.4, 10.0.9.5;
max-lease-time 60;
default-lease-time 60;

subnet 10.0.101.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {

   range 10.0.101.100 10.0.101.149;

}

/var/db/dhcpd.key files are identical

and dhcpd is started like this

host-101-189# dhcpd -d -f -Y 10.0.101.190 -y 10.0.101.189 em1
host-101-190# dhcpd -d -f -Y 10.0.101.189 -y 10.0.101.190 em1

When i start client like

# dhclient -d em1

then i see on the network that both dhcp servers answer and both send
one udp packet one to the other port 8067. Afterwards, dhcp client asks
renewal directly mostly from one dhcp server and gets a new lease
(answering dhcp server sends one udp packet to the other one after that).

Letting it to work for some time i end up with one dhcp server having
two leases in dhcpd.leases, the other server has tens of leases in its
dhcpd.leases and client has in its leases the first lease from on and
the rest from other dhcp server (as indicated with option
dhcp-server-identifier).

Imre

PS With netstat -np udp i a see both are 8067 listening.

I recently hit the same problem, when trying to change a partition. I
booted using bsd.rd then I could do what I wanted with disklabel.

I'm guessing you need to 'bioctl -d ' so a raid volume
doesn't have the partition in question open.

How to destroy softraid partition

2011-11-18 Thread Ivo Chutkin

Hi all,

How can I destroy softraid partition on disk?
I was playing with sofraid, now I want to install fresh copy on same disk.
When I try to delete raid partition disklebel reports:

disklebel: ioctl DIOCWDINFO: Open partition would move or shrink
disklebel: unable to write lebel

How can I delete this partition?

It is snapshot from 16.11.2011. I am not able to extract dmesg, it is HP
microserver with no com port.

Thanks for the help,
Ivo

If you are using a CD-RW -- make sure you have blanked it first by

  cdio blank

Also, if you're using the first drive, i.e. cd0, you don't have
to specify the device, you can just type

  cdio tao image.iso
