how to move advskew out of hostname.carpXXX ?
Hello! I'd like to sync /etc/hostname.carpXXX files between MASTER and BACKUP, the only difference, of course is advskew paramter. Is there a way to specify it in different config file ? I seen bug report on fwbuilder (www.fwbuilder.org), which describes something called create_args_carp0, but I didn't found any other presence of it: see #2636 carp : Incorrect output in rc.conf.local format. Should use create_args_carp0 instead of ifconfig_carp0 to set up CARP interface vhid, pass and adskew parameters. Cheers, Ilya Shipitsin
vpn isakmpd ipsec, one side with only one interface
o;?Hi, I was using ipsec vpn between 2 OpenBSD Gateway. It worked very well. Here : ---rl0---[fwA]---rl1(internet)-sis1---[fwB with ftpd]---sis0--- Now we remove ftp services from fwB and put it on an other machine fwC with an internet connection (only one network card). is it possible to keep a vpn online from fwA and fwC, and so computersA can reach again ftp using vpn (provided by fwC). Perhaps i need to use vether on fwC so briged pf ? Here the old ipsec.conf from fwB: ike esp from 172.17.2.0/24 to 192.168.0.0/24 peer ip_fwA main auth hmac-sha1 enc aes-256 group modp1024 quick auth hmac-sha1 enc aes-256 group modp1024 psk demopassword My idea on fwC : add verther0 with : inet 172.17.2.21 255.255.255.0 Need help ;-) Thank you very much. Kernel panic on sparc64 when booting with Proxim wireless 802.11b/g card
Good morning, I have a Sun Ultra 5 with 256 MB RAM and 40 GB IDE drive running OpenBSD 5.0-release (no patches). It is a testing server with no confidential or sensitive information. I also have a Proxim Silver 802.11b/g wireless card that uses the ath0 driver and it has worked flawlessly in the past on another i386 machine with a generic PCI-to-PCMCIA adapter. However, when I insert this card and the adapter into the Ultra 5 and boot, I see the panic that I am sending as attachment. (I tried to type all this by hand, but it was too much.) Keep in mind that this card and the adapter performed flawlessly in another i386 machine, and the Ultra 5 is otherwise functioning fine as well. I am also including dmesg/pcidump/acpidump here: dmesg: OpenBSD 5.0 (GENERIC) #36: Wed Aug 17 10:13:34 MDT 2011 dera...@sparc64.openbsd.org:/usr/src/sys/arch/sparc64/compile/GENERIC real mem = 268435456 (256MB) avail mem = 251781120 (240MB) mainbus0 at root: Sun Ultra 5/10 UPA/PCI (UltraSPARC-IIi 333MHz) cpu0 at mainbus0: SUNW,UltraSPARC-IIi (rev 1.3) @ 333 MHz cpu0: physical 16K instruction (32 b/l), 16K data (32 b/l), 2048K external (64 b/l) psycho0 at mainbus0 addr 0xfffc4000: SUNW,sabre, impl 0, version 0, ign 7c0 psycho0: bus range 0-2, PCI bus 0 psycho0: dvma map c000-dfff pci0 at psycho0 ppb0 at pci0 dev 1 function 1 Sun Simba PCI-PCI rev 0x13 pci1 at ppb0 bus 1 ebus0 at pci1 dev 1 function 0 Sun PCIO EBus2 rev 0x01 auxio0 at ebus0 addr 726000-726003, 728000-728003, 72a000-72a003, 72c000-72c003, 72f000-72f003 power0 at ebus0 addr 724000-724003 ivec 0x25 SUNW,pll at ebus0 addr 504000-504002 not configured sab0 at ebus0 addr 40-40007f ivec 0x2b: rev 3.2 sabtty0 at sab0 port 0: console sabtty1 at sab0 port 1 comkbd0 at ebus0 addr 3083f8-3083ff ivec 0x29: no keyboard comms0 at ebus0 addr 3062f8-3062ff ivec 0x2a wsmouse0 at comms0 mux 0 lpt0 at ebus0 addr 3043bc-3043cb, 30015c-30015d, 70-7f ivec 0x22: polled fdthree at ebus0 addr 3023f0-3023f7, 706000-70600f, 72-720003 ivec 0x27 not configured clock1 at ebus0 addr 0-1fff: mk48t59 flashprom at ebus0 addr 0-f not configured audioce0 at ebus0 addr 20-2000ff, 702000-70200f, 704000-70400f, 722000-722003 ivec 0x23 ivec 0x24: nvaddrs 0 audio0 at audioce0 hme0 at pci1 dev 1 function 1 Sun HME rev 0x01: ivec 0x7e1, address 08:00:20:a8:17:21 nsphy0 at hme0 phy 1: DP83840 10/100 PHY, rev. 1 machfb0 at pci1 dev 2 function 0 ATI Mach64 rev 0x5c machfb0: ATY,GT-C, 1152x900 wsdisplay0 at machfb0 mux 1 wsdisplay0: screen 0 added (std, sun emulation) pciide0 at pci1 dev 3 function 0 CMD Technology PCI0646 rev 0x03: DMA, channel 0 configured to native-PCI, channel 1 configured to native-PCI pciide0: using ivec 0x7e0 for native-PCI interrupt wd0 at pciide0 channel 0 drive 0: IBM-IC35L040AVVA07-0 wd0: 16-sector PIO, LBA, 39266MB, 80418240 sectors wd0(pciide0:0:0): using PIO mode 4, DMA mode 2 atapiscsi0 at pciide0 channel 1 drive 0 scsibus0 at atapiscsi0: 2 targets cd0 at scsibus0 targ 0 lun 0: LG, CD-ROM CRD-8322B, 1.03 ATAPI 5/cdrom removable cd0(pciide0:1:0): using PIO mode 4, DMA mode 2 ppb1 at pci0 dev 1 function 0 Sun Simba PCI-PCI rev 0x13 pci2 at ppb1 bus 2 cbb0 at pci2 dev 1 function 0 ENE CB-1410 CardBus rev 0x01: ivec 0x7d0 cardslot0 at cbb0 slot 0 flags 0 cardbus0 at cardslot0: bus 3 device 0 cacheline 0x40, lattimer 0x20 pcmcia0 at cardslot0 vscsi0 at root scsibus1 at vscsi0: 256 targets softraid0 at root scsibus2 at softraid0: 256 targets bootpath: /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/ide@3,0/disk@0,0 root on wd0a swap on wd0b dump on wd0b usbdevs: usbdevs: no USB controllers found pcidump: Domain /dev/pci0: 0:1:0: Sun Simba PCI-PCI 0x: Vendor ID: 108e Product ID: 5000 0x0004: Command: 0147 Status ID: 02a0 0x0008: Class: 06 Subclass: 04 Interface: 00 Revision: 13 0x000c: BIST: 00 Header Type: 81 Latency Timer: 50 Cache Line Size: 10 0x0010: 0x0014: 0x0018: Primary Bus: 0 Secondary Bus: 2 Subordinate Bus: 255 Secondary Latency Timer: 28 0x001c: I/O Base: 00 I/O Limit: 00 Secondary Status: 2280 0x0020: Memory Base: Memory Limit: 0x0024: Prefetch Memory Base: Prefetch Memory Limit: 0x0028: Prefetch Memory Base Upper 32 Bits: 0x002c: Prefetch Memory Limit Upper 32 Bits: 0x0030: I/O Base Upper 16 Bits: I/O Limit Upper 16 Bits: 0x0038: Expansion ROM Base Address: 0x003c: Interrupt Pin: 00 Line: 00 Bridge Control: 0002 0x: 5000108e 02a00147 06040013 00815010 0x0010: 28ff0200 2280 0x0020: 0x0030: 0002 0x0040: 0x0050: 0x0060: 0x0070: 0x0080:
odd checkout behavior from local cvsync repository
I just wonder if this is unusual or abnormal. For the last few months, my local repository has not been recursively building working directories with checkout. For example: $ echo $CVSROOT /cvs $ cd /tmp $ cvs get -P ports cvs checkout: Updating ports U ports/.cvsignore U ports/INDEX U ports/Makefile U ports/README $ I used to use the cvsync server at mtu.edu, then when we were asked I switched to comstyle.com, and now am using anoncvs1.usa.openbsd.org. This doesn't seem to make a difference, nor does formatting my repository and starting over. I can force recursions with -R. My cvsync.conf is shown below -- nothing special about it that I can see. Any thoughts on what I may have done wrong would be appreciated. config { hostname anoncvs1.usa.openbsd.org compress collection { name openbsd-cvsroot release rcs prefix /cvs umask 002 } collection { name openbsd-src release rcs prefix /cvs umask 002 } collection { name openbsd-ports release rcs prefix /cvs umask 002 } collection { name openbsd-xenocara release rcs prefix /cvs umask 002 } collection { name openbsd-www release rcs prefix /cvs umask 002 } }

dmesg garbage and RTC BIOS diagnostic error on Dell Optiplex 790.
I just installed OpenBSD 5.0-stable i386 on a brand new Dell Optiplex 790. I'm running the GENERIC.MP kernel, which I built after updating to the latest -stable as of this morning. However, I saw the garbage even before rebuilding from source (i.e. with the kernel in install50.iso). I have two problems that worry me: 1. I see this in dmesg: RTC BIOS diagnostic error 3fconfig_unit,memory_size,fixed_disk,invalid_time 2. There is garbage in the dmesg output, e.g.: pci2 at phd0\M-X\^F\^X@\M^Wwevnt\^B\^B`(\M-/0v(\M-!0v\^PDh\M-Xx\M^Xv\M-z\^S1\M-H\M-GI\M^G\M-j\M^OC\ M-|\M-BQ\M^V\^A\^B\^B`\^PDh\M-Xx\^Xl\M-[x\240k\M-[xp\M-\M-Xxptal\M-Xction 0 Intel 6 Series USB r ev 0x04: aphd0\M-0\^F\^X@\M^Ww\\\M-3\M-Xx\M^D\M-5\M-Xx\M-d\M-%\M-Xx`\M-\M-Xx`\M-\M-Xxp\M-\M-Xxp\ M-\M-Xxt\M-/\M-XxP\M-0\M-Xx,\M-1\M-Xxd\M-2\M-Xx\^P\M-4\M-Xx\M^X\M-3\M-Xxon 0 Intel 82801BA Hub-to -PCI rev 0xa4ptal\M-0 ppb2 bus 3 This doesn't give me a warm fuzz feeling. Unbound in base
Hello, After some recent discussions [1, 2] on the topic of unbound in base, and (more important) really liking the idea of an alternative for BIND in base, I made a start with fitting the different pieces of the puzzle. What is finished: 1.) Integration of ldns 1.6.12 and unbound 1.4.15 and writing of relevant Makefile wrappers. Wrapper script also compiles and installs drill; 2.) Testing (read: does it compile and work) on AMD64. Stuart Henderson had some good remarks on integrating the above [3]. What do you guys think of the following: What to do with the BIND tools (dig/host/nslookup)? Unbound offers drill. From drill.1: The name drill is a pun on dig. With drill you should be able get even more information than with dig.. Proposal therefore is to replace the BIND tools with drill. Do we run unbound-anchor automatically? if so, how do we handle possibly not having working DNS at that time to resolve data.iana.org (http://data.iana.org) (http://data.iana.org)? From unbound-anchor.8 I understand that unbound-anchor can be run from the command line, or run as part of startup scripts _before_ the actual (unbound) DNS server is started. So there is no need for DNS. Proposal therefor is to run unbound-anchor automatically before starting the unbound daemon (rc_pre in unbound rc-script). How and when do we automatically generate unbound-control keys? if so, where should that be done? b From unbound-control.8: The script unbound-control-setup generates these control keys in the default run directory. If you change the access control permissions on the key files you can decide who can use unbound-control. Run the script under the same username as you have configured in unbound.conf or as root, so that the daemon is permitted to read the files, for example with: sudo -u unbound unbound-control-setup. If you have not configured a username in unbound.conf, the keys need read permission for the user credentials under which the daemon is started. The script preserves private keys present in the directory. After running the script as root, turn on control-enable in unbound.conf. The unbound-control-script can be called from rc-make_keys(). The knob 'control-enable' can be set as default. After tar/gzip the source files and Makefile wrappers weigh ~4.6MB. A bit to large to send to this list. if anyone feels like looking at the workbdo not hesitate to mail me. Again, what do you guys think? Kind regards, BjC6rn [1] http://marc.info/?l=openbsd-miscm=132205020820910w=2 [2] http://marc.info/?l=openbsd-techm=132573371521516w=2 [3] http://marc.info/?l=openbsd-miscm=132217547525487w=2

OpenBSD 5.1 - snapshot - bsd.mp only detects one CPU of dual-processor AOpen DX34 Plus board
Because last year I helped somebody with a 4.4 pf.conf, this machine had a disk with OpenBSD 4.4 on it. I copied the bsd.rd of the latest snapshot to / in order to install the snapshot. Re: the aucat recording studio - stereo panning
On Fri, Feb 10, 2012 at 12:05:36AM +0100, Alexandre H wrote: You'll face other problems preventing you from doing everything with aucat. First, there's no reverb, which is necessary to create the spacial feel, volume changes are too abrupt (cause small clicks) and not real-time. Implementing pan, effects and smooth parameter changes would bloat aucat/sndiod. IMO the way to go is to handle processing in small programs (with a simple record-process-play loop) and keep sndiod only for routing the signal to the hardware or other programs. Currently that's the way I handle some effects, I write small programs that apply effects on the record stream to send the result in real-time on the play stream. Then I use -mmon to record the result in a file. Not very flexible, but good enough to test the concept. If I understand what you are doing, perhaps you have another way. Noatun doesn't make the deal ? afaics noatun can't apply effects in real-time and is not very lightweight. When I wrote it can apply effects in real-time I meant this : I play an audio file. While it plays it I can do the following : I go to the menu Settings and select Effects. I add the effect Arts::Synth_FREEVERB for example. I hear the audio changing immediatly as expected. If I change the value of a parameter the audio change immediatly as expected. I can change the position of the playing-cursor without audible delay. It's interactive and the audible audio quality doesn't change (assuming the activity of other parts of the system doesn't change sufficiently). AFAICS the effect is applied online. Noatun and Kaffeine can do this real-time. Sure, this interactive mode has some drawbacks and adding the audio output recording in a new file will slowdown more or less the whole process and perhaps decrease the audible audio quality (and if too many process eat the CPU the real-time will end). At least for this last reason it's certainly better to use batch mode (1 process offline) with a command (sox for example) launched from a CLI. The interactive mode has an obvious advantage : instead of launching many times the same command with differents values in order to find the best values, it's certainly easier to use a player with this real-time capability. This interactive mode is useful not only for listening music or playing with effects but also for discovering, experimenting and testing filters (and GUI isn't mandatory, it can be done in console mode with a keyboard only). This is why I proposed Noatun (it should exists ligtherweight player with this capability). I would like to go further on this point, I will stay brief : An audio editor can use this 2 modes. The user searchs the best values in interactive mode (without recording) and when he pushs the Save button, the editor launch in background something like sox with this values, wich converts the input file and give the output file (batch mode). The editor has the advantages of this 2 modes without their drawbacks. If someone want to develop a new audio filtering editor he can implement this principle on any player with this real-time capability instead of developing a new one from scratch. Noatun seems to be a good candidat. The player with the UI is already done and it works well, so less work to do.

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you suggesting I should read up on how to operate cvs, or is there something specific about CVS and OPenBSD I should be aware of? I'm following the faq.
