http://nate.my-balls.com/reference/?content=wireless&menu=network does have
a working configuration with ural, try it's set up and of course, configure
your ds to make sure it's got the connection information.

The Wikipedia article on OpenBSD

2005-10-06 Thread Jan Izary
Recently I and several other people have worked to improve the OpenBSD
article contained in the Wikipedia, I'm sure I need not explain how it
works.

Anyways, I've worked to get as much easily accessable information regarding
OpenBSD in that article as possible and I've pretty much run into a wall,
I've got little else I can add.

I am putting a call out to the OpenBSD community at large to give a look at
the article and see if they can improve it, fleshing out anything that has
gaps and explaining some of the more complex concepts.

Things like OpenBSD centred screenshots would be nice if people would be
willing to upload them and list them in the gallery.

I would have put this on the advocacy list, but really it seems to be dead
and most advocacy seems to run through the misc list.

Thanks

Re: raid kernel

Is there any hope to see the "live network backup" that NetBSD's developer
"der Mouse" presented at BSDCan 2005?

I may not be a developer of OpenBSD, but I think that anything Mike Parker
says or does should be ignored, just because of the kind of person he is,
he's a kid that needed to be spanked more when he was still a child.

It's sad that NetBSD lets Mike use that as a mockery of Theo instead of have
him like a grown up and make use of his real name.

I'd not want someone like that associated with my project.

Re: Negotiating a license for Sun Java on OpenBSD?

2005-08-06 Thread Jan Izary

Please release the source code of your software under a BSD license so

it is compatible with the goals of our project:

J. C., you know full well that's not really needed for OpenBSD to have their
own copy of Java in ports.

Making something like Java a native port would only require it to be open
source in a manner that allows redistribution. Heck, if Java were CDDLed, I
think that may even be enough to have native ports for OpenBSD.

Re: Silly patch to allow alt + f[1-4] to switch consoles.

2005-07-12 Thread Jan Izary
GNU/Linux and FreeBSD still require Ctrl-Alt-Fx to switch back to a text
console from X11. That's no reason to require Ctrl-Alt-Fx when switching
between text consoles when X11 isn't even involved.

No, reverse that. Why bother changing it at all? Just leave it be instead
of having the same command be different if you're running something.

Re: some questions about OpenBSDs future plans

2005-05-09 Thread Jan Izary
Ben, Henning's, "yes, that's the entire point," referred to there being no
plan9 code that is reusable in OpenBSD, it was not saying that there was
suddenly a relicensing.

As to when OpenBSD will be GCCless, well, start a project to make a compiler
that is liberally licensed and supports all of OpenBSD's arch and we'll
probably see it added in pretty snappy once it actually does so,
unfortunately there is no such thing already out there. There are some old
public domains from Amigas and such, not really up to modern snuff.

Re: Hackathon 2005

2005-04-30 Thread Jan Izary
Perhaps your a bit "ininformed" yourself.. unless there is some
weird canadian/US translation going on here, I am pretty sure that
the word you were looking for was infact, "uninformed". :)
Oh shit! Theo didn't proof read his e-mail! The two keys are right next to
each other man, no need to bug him about a typo.

Moving on, I highly doubt there will be anyone trying to make a new cc,
httpd or mta for a while, the current ones work well enough without causing
problems. The complaints with them have mostly been dealt with already by
devs (at least, the complaints we get to see online). Though I do see the
compiler coming up more as gcc drops older platforms in newer versions.

I also have to agree with Adam regarding things like OpenNTPd, when you want
to fix a tool up there comes a point at which the amount of work involved
you may as well remake the tool. And once the tool is made, there isn't a
huge amount of work involved in maintaining it. You can either improve the
squalid shanty or tear it down and make a house worth living in.
