isnt the mac going the way of Intel now? all of their newer boxes seem
to be Intel now (correct me if i'm wrong), in which case... u shouldnt
get a mac, i mean, an Intel.

here is the relevant portion of dmesg that is output when i plug in the

uaudio0: ignored output endpoint of type async
uaudio0: audio rev 1.00, 0 mixer controls
audio0 at uaudio0

i guess no luck huh? i have no idea where audio gets in to the story...

is urs a pstn modem? then it has to convert from digital, to analog
(voice,/audio) waves for transmission over the pstn, and then
back. That's probably where the audio comes from.

hey, it even has *different* menu option placements for unix and for
windows! Edit - Preferences (in unix), vs Tools - Options (in
windows). Now why would anybody even try to do this sort of idiotic
thing?? to make it easier on the windows users??? IE - Tools -
Internet Options

you could try horde - it's pretty full-featured. Mta, i would
recommend qmail, but YMMV... The setup will be pretty tedious if u go
this way, but once setup, everything will run very nicely.

Re: Honesty needed...

how about the mail store then? I suppose there'll have to be some
coordinated (and thread-friendly) back-end mail store in place for
these front-end mail servers (*i'm assuming simplistic load-balancing
here - at the tcp level, rather than at the application level, or
splitting via userid, so that the different userids are actually
assigned to different mailstores).

I concur. mail load is ideally suited for dividing up
amongst multiple machines (with then multiple i/o busses, etc. etc.).

I far prefer this method to the one big machine method.
