Insertion of compact flash w/ pcmcia card == kernel panic w/ 4.1-STABLE or 4.1-CURRENT

2007-07-03 Thread openbsd fan

Reading the wd man page, I assumed that flash cards were supported in
Openbsd 4.1. This particular combo of SanDisk's CompactFlash PC Card
Adapter model SDAD-38-A10 with two different SanDisk compactflash
cards generated kernel panic as soon as the compact flash cards were
inserted into a Thinkpad X60s with 4.1-CURRENT and a Thinkpad X32 with
4.1-STABLE.

I tested this same combo with a third laptop with OpenBSD 3.8 and I
was finally able to mount the compact flash.

Enclosed dmesg w/ trace and ps for the Thinkpad X60s with 4.1-CURRENT:

Re: OT: parallel programming book recs

I'd try "Designing and Building Parallel Programs by Ian Foster. Its
website is www.msc.anl.gov/dbpp ; its ISBN is 0-201-57594-9.

The author is involved in the GLOBUS project and that's why I bought it. I
have not had time to read it.

Re: is the Thinkpad T30 supported?

2007-03-20 Thread openbsd fan
If you end up installing OpenBSD on your T30 IBM laptop, be sure to consider
installing the tpb package, along with tphdisk package. The first enables
the volume/brightness/Access IBM button on your Thinkpad; the second enables
a hibernation file.

Check the corresponding packages for details but these two packages REALLY
make running OpenBSD on your Thinkpad awesome.

PS. I put tpb -d in my .xinitrc file

NO. Its use APM instead of ACPI. The Phoenix BIOS in the X31 uses APM
instead of ACPI.

azalia0 sound

2007-04-14 Thread openbsd fan
I am running 4.1-current on a Thinkpad X60S.  I have searched the @misc
archives and read the FAQ, but I have yet come across the method by which to
increase the system's volume when using azalia0.

The Volume buttons on my Thinkpad X60S work. If I try to advance beyond the
end of a man page, for example, it emits a VERY loud beep. After I do that,
I can then hear very faint sound when playing multimedia. However, if I
reboot OpenBSD, startx, and xmms .mp3, I will hear nothing.

When I try to use the volume buttons, I can increase the volume of the
beeping noise that occurs when you try to advance beyond the end of a man
page; I can also mute the warning beep. However, I cannot increase the
sound when any multimedia files are being played by xmms or mplayer.

Here is the output of mixerctl -a:

outputs.dac02.source=hdaudio
outputs.lineout.source=dac03
outputs.lineout.mute=off
outputs.lineout=125,125
outputs.lineout=85,85

Because there is no outputs.master is this why I cannot adjust the volume?

Thanks for looking...

I also had this problem. This is not an issue with the 4/20 Xenocara
snapshot; it is an issue on the 4/30 snapshot. I don't know how to make a
library load in X.org server that is not loading. If someone does, please
speak up.

I "solved" my problem by reinstalling the 4/20 Xenocara snapshot.

mapping ex

2007-05-05 Thread openbsd fan
Reviewing the man pages I noted that vi == nvi.

When I open a file and issue an :map command I get the following:

^A ^
^K d$
^[0A  k
^[0B  j
^[0C  l
^[0D  h
^[[2~ i
^[[3~ x

Where is this file being sourced from? I created an ~/.exrc file, and tried
to map the Home and End keys. (These keys have been created in my
/etc/X11/xinit/.Xresources file as have the Insert/Delete/PgUp/PgDn keys.)

They show up when I do

:map

from within nvi but are not being used when I am in command mode.

I mapped:

 ^[[1~ 0 // home
 ^[[4~ $ // eol

I want to try adding these keys to the file where the other default mappings
are coming from. I can't seem to find anything that would tell me where to
find this file in on Openbsd. I also consulted O'Reilly's Learning Vi book
before writing @misc.

Please help.  Thanks.

Re: mapping ex

2007-05-05 Thread openbsd fan
I am still coming up short here. I have consulted the online man pdksh and
google but I can't solve the problem of having a command line history and
navigating the command line.

In my /etc/profile I have:

export EDITOR=/usr/bin/vi
export ENV=/etc/ksh.kshrc
export HISTFILE=$HOME/.sh_history
export HISTSIZE=128

In my customized /etc/ksh.kshrc (not the default Openbsd ksh.kshrc) I have:

set -a
set -o vi

bind '^[['=prefix-2
bind '^XA'=up-history
bind '^XB'=down-history
bind '^XC'=forward-char
bind '^XD'=backward-char
bind '^A'=beginning-of-line
bind '^E'=end-of-line

$ echo $TERM
vt220

I am not sure what I am doing wrong to not have a command line history. How
can I test the bind pdksh keys?

# bind

only gives you what available keys are available, not confirmation that
they, in fact, are working...

wpi0 runs great here on a Thinkpad X60s with a GENERIC.MP kernel with acpi
enabled...

tpb and tphdisk are only for thinkpads with apm not acpi...

I've created a save2dsk.bin file:

$ ls -l
/mnt/

total 5240832
-rwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel  2683305984 May 27 17:31 save2dsk.bin

I have tpb set to run as a daemon from ~/.xinitrc. The volume mute/down/up
buttons work, but none of the Fn buttons do except for the thinklight.
On-screen display also does not work. Is this something I can fix with a
simple configuration change?

 Here is some information about my hardware. Thanks for any advice.
