According to wikipedia that Dell may have the same video card that I have on
my HP "Elitebook" 8440p.  Look over the following thread. The xorg.conf
I posted may improve behaviour on your machine too.

Hi,

don't be surprised, Nvidia is not supported until someone sends a
patch (Nouveau). Therefore, your options are: 1) Use VESA 2) If the
machine has a second display card, use that by disabling Nvidia from
BIOS c) Change HW d) Use different OS.
