Re: SATA RAID card: the cheapest

All LSI megaraid cards fit the pci envelope.

If you add the type of internal SCSI cable which are easy
(possible?) to buy, the 320-1 no longer fits MD2.

If anyone has a suggestion on an internal cable that might
work with 320-1 and allow the lid of a 2U (low-profile) case
to be closed, please could they let me know, bonus marks
for any vendors that will ship to UK...

N.B. to anyone thinking about using these in 2U low-profile
systems, if you want to use the internal connector, you want
the 320-1LP not the 320-1...although 320-1 comes with the
right bracket for low-profile systems, you need the SCSI
connector rotated through 90 degrees as it is on 320-1LP.

If you're using it for co-location, remember that the 150-4 isn't
exactly low profile. I'd be surprised if you can fit it into a 19
rack mounted chassis. Even with a riser card, the card may just be too
tall to fit. Looking at the manufacturer page [1], you can see the
upper bit of the board (i.e. the bit with the jumpers). That's the
part that may be too tall.

Some 3ware cards may be cheaper but I doubt you'd do better with them.
Personally, I'm quite happy with the 150-4 card. It suits my needs
fine and bioctl(8) is of course a splendid bonus. I'm not using it in
a co-located environment, so I can't tell you whether it would fit
into a 19 chassis.

Cheers,

Rogier

can i do any better? this card is more for hotswapping through a failure than
high-load performance. any experiences using such a card would be a plus.

just remember that the 6 8 port cards are the only cards which support
a battery backup unit.
