There is, of course, desire to support SMP on mvme88k, sparc, sparc64,
Alpha, and just about anything else it could be supported on.

By "plans", however, I suspect you want some kind of time schedule.
No, there is none.  When code is ready for testing, announcements will
be made.  After many crashes and data loss events, it will be ready
for use.  People who are making plans based on this are foolish.  You
can't make plans on "vaporware", whether it is a commercial or free
product.  Until it exists, you can't use it.  There is no effective way
to accurately predict when it will happen.

Once SMP is available on these machines, you will discover that your
E450 is still a fraction of the speed and many times the power
consumption of a modern computer.

So: If you need more performance, get a faster computer.
If you are satisfied with the performance you get now, seeing all
four processors in the dmesg won't change your life much.  Sure, there
is a "wow, that's cool" factor, but beware of how much that "that's
cool" costs you in electricity.
