Thanks Mark, this is now working fine.

This is expected. You should use the "modesetting" driver instead of
the "intel" driver. And if you don't have an /etc/X11/xorg.conf file,
that would be the default.

If you really need an /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, change the driver
there. Otherwise, just delete the file.

error: [drm:pid10679:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... render ring idle

2016-10-01 Thread Alexis de BRUYN
Hi Everybody,

I have got the following errors for a couple of weeks now after a
snapshot update.

error: [drm:pid10679:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer
elapsed... render ring idle

This occurs when I am watching a video with Firefox, Chromium, Minitube
(and VLC more rarely) for example.

The system becomes very slow then unusable. I can get a console if I
wait several several seconds. Killing the application doesn't change
anything. I must reboot the computer or restart xdm.

My computer is an Intel NUC 5i3RYK with all firmwares and bios
up-to-date. See dmesg and Xorg.0.log below.

My setup is quite new, about 3 months old, and I guess I don't have this
issue in July. I am trying to update OS and packages with snapshots
every week. Last was yesterday.

Thanks for your help,

$ dmesg
