(Paul Jacob on why cheating and excuse-making don't inspire confidence in government-run schools) Dear Ones, When a teacher is expected to teach under the circumstances that they have at this time such as "no child left behind" or "raise the test scores or lose your job" or "make sure you have enough numbers for an elective course by doing anything you can", teachers become desperate. Yet there is no excuse for changing test scores. Some teachers teach to the test to save their jobs. It is the sign of the times and not a good one. We have lost out in the education forum. We are lost and our children are lost. Discipline at home or anywhere is almost a thing of the past. Children are begging for discipline and are unhappy without it. In the 60's we wanted to better ourselves and behaved. I always felt completely uncomfortable when a teacher did not even try to discipline his or her students. I had a teacher once who was almost a monster and very hard to please but she taught the subject and if you wanted to learn you did. She taught me the English language. I missed almost every Monday because I would be with my fiance at the age of 16. We married when I was 18, but I did succeed because the goal I did not lose. I received a C on the quarterly grade even though I made and A on every homework assignment and test. I understood that then and now, but I received an A on the two semesters. I am grateful to her and wish that everyone had had a teacher like her. I still do not like her personality but does that matter? Not to me. If the family would come together as it was then, we would have a better life in every way. All of you probably know all of this. What do we do? I do not know, but wish I did. Teachers are in a severely bad situation. The country is going the way of destruction and by ruining any chance of getting an education by our own people is the way one can do this. Dumbing down America is real. Obama is as you know coming in the backdoor with his Dream Act is what I am reading. He is being led to create failures of all our own dreams. I still know many people who will defend him to the death which is exactly what might happen. Getting through to them is impossible when they refuse to see the truth. William Federer is a visionary who has spoken here on more than one occasion. Conquerors use many methods to add to their empires. We can see a combination of all of these here. The more people that know about this the better. Carl still has hope and I guess that is the better way to attack these people, but our plans are not as good as our would be conquerors. Of course money is power and their plans have been formulated carefully over many years and many institutions are already in deep water or already drowned. Never give up? What else? The place to continue is now and here. I can write and encourage and even if no one reads, cares, or just thinks I know nothing we still need to think on these things. I am sorry that this City has "won" so far through their network. People built the pyramids, the Wall of China and more. Chipping away does work if not already here and now. We are awaiting for the audit of the Springfield Public Schools. I am praying or putting my thoughts on the side of the spirit concerning that. So are you all. Let us pray without ceasing as one and all. I am not a Bible thumper, yet I have studied it for 60 years. The basic truths are there in Jesus's words. I believe everything he said. Perhaps on a different level which does not change the meaning. He is the Spirit in all of us which is quite enough for us. It is not necessary to argue about under God in the Constitution or the Pledge of Allegiance because the fact is is that we are under God. If worse comes to worse we must remember that. If we know, we know. We are like Forrest Gump, my favorite movie. We are mentally retarded yet as to the mysteries of God, but the basic rules of ethics and rules of rightness and justness can be used even by slow people. Teaching right by his mother worked for him and would work for us. Back to the education thing. Next year I plan to be a reading buddy for the school closest to me, Campbell Elementary. Every little or not so little thing that we do is chipping. May the spirit of the supreme spirit be with you. Human nature is to take a short cut in order to achieve the greatest result especially for those in government employ. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Common Sense <commonse...@citizensincharge.org> Date: Thu, Jul 7, 2011 at 8:23 AM Subject: Cheaters Never Prosper? The cheating scandal in the Atlanta Public Schools is ugly -- 178 administrators, principals and teachers were caught changing answers on standardized tests. Nearly 80 percent of the schools investigated were found to be guilty. One school held weekend pizza parties to organize the fraud. Former Superintendent Beverly Hall -- named the National Superintendent of Year in 2009 -- "is accused of encouraging the cheating." Hall made hundreds of thousands of dollars in bonuses for the fraudulent test scores. Meanwhile, one teacher fearing retaliation if she blew the whistle, declared <http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?llr=lwztkndab&et=1106441642742&s=5959&e=001LC_iyp nGW5CX8r-XPqtHKmeCSNLFmy0i80q3DzhogVEBNXlbuFeTWHvv-JIqU92wiqBbleQUAn1A4xVqFl Cisqikk4oTqjcMpr5eeO6pbOwmxHii30YRmGeJEVZx3M8TGNdK_Tk9h266_VvsZb267EE59WjXQB VbQklueqqoIELVKkwq2zjkvF4WnpcY85gKYb6u5lmGHWBBKXADt4JMMCio89IdrzH_8e58biJjke EfxtqnDoajKlDZt6vyrg-1ptNNwwb37k3pPfsjmXp_p8zUMoLw_2lp> , "APS is run like the mob." I've been a consistent critic of No Child Left Behind and deplore the federal micro-managing of schools. But cheating is wrong. And the fault lies with the cheaters -- not with those demanding better performance. Paul Landerman, a former Atlanta teacher fired for reporting the cheating, told NBC, "The greatest value inside that system is loyalty to the system." System first. Your kids? Somewhere after that.
