Tomorrow Townhall meeting
I am planning on going to this. I am hoping to be in Springfield by 10:30 at the Gilloiz in line. I know that Jenny is going to meet me in line as she is taking time off work. Is anyone else going to be able to make it? Would you like to meet up somewhere? I did not make it to Fred's meeting so I don't know what you guys have planned out. Could you fill us in? I can bring my laptop if needed. Cathy, There will be people there from all kinds of different groups, sadly one of these groups has decided to align themselves with the political party they believe is going to oppose this instead of trying to stop it outright they want to garner compromise. I believe Fred and Janice will be in line and have registered, I'm leaving early in the morning so I can be back in time to at least stand out front with the rest of the Domestic Terrorist. Why are you so surprised, Tom? Why have to think about nautical directions when you can go spend a bunch of money on a GPS system and let it just tell you where to go and when to turn? If people weren't so willing of late to check out and let someone else take care of everything FOR them, we wouldn't be planning this excursion in the first place. Re: Tomorrow Townhall meeting
I'm also wondering how hard an alternative to Obamacare would be, in the form of clinics that were set up to offer care to ONLY those without insurance or medicaid. WHat I'm thinking about is that if someone wanted to be a doctor, instead of getting financial aid, they allowed the state to pay for their education with the stipulation that when they get their medical license, they are to work for a set amount of years in a low-income medical facility and accept a much lower rate of pay. Same for nurses. Med school costs a small fortune these days, but I suspect that it would cost a lot less for the government, and individual states to pay for the education of a new doctor than to implement Obamacare, or medicaid. If the hospitals weren't having to operate at a deficit level by raising fees to cover the expected loss from non-payment, perhaps hospital fees could go down as well, and at some near point, the vicious cycle could end. Just a thought. I hate GPS systems and all that. They always tell me "You should have just turned a moment ago you schmuck!" I cannot really navigate around an area until I spend the time to get properly lost in it, take a few wrong turns and so forth. I get the best feel for an area if I walk or bike it (which doesn't happen as much as I like these days). I navigate by landmarks, not streets. My Dad taught me to look up while trying to get somewhere and notice prominent features in the distance, such as church spires, near where you want to go. If you can focus on those features you can always spiral in to your target even if you do not know the streets at all. And wandering around may not get you to where you wanted to go very quickly but you discover lots of interesting things and perhaps it takes you to where you should be going. Quite a few years ago I was walking from the Marina in DC with my fiancé at the time. I wanted to see how things connected to the section of monuments on the river to the North. I had seen it on a map but did not have a good physical grasp of the layout. Very shortly I was "lost". My fiancé became increasingly agitated at this, especially as we cut through a section of slums off of the Red Line there. We got asked several times if we had drugs to sell: Why else would a a couple of well-dressed white folks be walking through there? We walked purposely through and I was at least lightly armed, so we were not bothered much. My fiancé did not understand until quite a bit later that being lost was not a problem and that it had, in fact, been my goal of setting out in that direction. We had an interesting argument... Afterward I had a physical appreciation of exactly how the city was laid out... and the fact that my liberal, tolerant, open- minded fiancé did not want to see poor black people that closely. It was much easier to appreciate their plight from a distance. Just a thought. And a good thought. It would also do in many cases just to remove the obstacles to doctors offering low-cost services. In many places it is actually illegal to offer medical services below the approved Medicaid cost. In almost all places HMO agreements forbid doctors/facilities offering any services below the approved HMO price. We know that charity would increase without these rules since it was quite common before the rules were put in place. At the extreme end, over 2,000 free or low cost medical facilities once existed in New York City ALONE: outpatient clinics, medical dispensaries, doctors offices, hospitals, etc., etc., the majority provided by Catholics, Baptists, and Jews. The system largely worked before we broke it. Sincerely, Eric Vought "Faith does not absolve us from trying to understand our world and make moral distinctions with the eyes and brain given us. The other day I was trying to tell my mom where to look for something and kept telling her to look one direction when I really meant the other and it was horrible. I have the same problem if I think too hard or long about which way to screw something off or out. You can tell me all day long the rhyme of righty/tighty lefty/loosey and it means nothing to me. But on the other hand, I can tell you East, West, North and South anytime anywhere. Isn’t that weird? Re: Tomorrow Townhall meeting
I would also like to point out that what I am thinking about with this suggestion is NOT to be confused with any point in the Obamacare plan, because it would not be mandated, nor required, but would instead be an option for future med students. In fact, this is already a program that is going on, but it could be expanded upon to be made more efficient and available to more people. Like I said, though, it's just a thought.
