No, no, you need the *driver* module loaded before starting X, not the
general v4l modules.

Taking advice, I have put Load "v4l" back into XF86Config-4, and added
v4l1-compat and v4l2-common to /etc/modprobe.preload. It no longer
reboots, but I still have only the display card listed as a possible
device.

Any more suggestions, please?

There's a 9 minute gap between the restart line and the one preceeding
it.

On the Mandrake list it was suggested that putting v4l into the
/etc/modules.preload file should do the trick. It not longer crashes,
but I still see the original error. Using

studio -t I see:

I'm affraid that's Mandrake-specific, or maybe videocard specific. Does
your /var/log/messages show anything?

Hmm - I have done that, but now when I type "studio" I see a line saying
that it has seen v4l, then the computer reboots.

I have posted the problem on the Mandrake list, in case it is
Mdk-specific, but would welcome any ideas about what's happening.

Have you tried the latest version of VLC 0.7.1 (www.videolan.org) ?

It plays back the interlaced full size PAL movies on my laptop back
without producing any problems over the network. Except a high load of
about 70% on a PIV Mobile 1.9GHz.

An the best thing is that you don't have to install that SW, so you can
bypass the policies set up on your doesnt'work station by the admin. :)

RE: [Mjpeg-users] Offtopic: Software MJPEG De/Encoder

2004-05-17 Thread Wesley Dungan
For the past two years I have been using the PicVideo codec and I've been
very happy. However, I recently upgraded to Mandrake 10.0 and this codec no
longer handles interlaced AVIs captured from lavrec (and I'm not sure why
yet).

A few weeks ago I switched to using the Morgan codec. It seems to handles
the interlaced video correctly, but when I process video with AviSynth the U
and V data gets swapped (but it is easily correctable using SwapUV()).

I have tried the MainConcept codec as well, and I like it the least.

I believe that you can download a trial version of the PicVideo codec. If
it works for your needs, then stick with it. Otherwise, give the Morgan
codec a try.

Hi,

Please excuse this post being a little bit off-topic. But I do not know
where
to ask otherwise. Maybe, I can get a hint where it is more suitable to ask.

I am using the mjpeg tools heavily, but sometimes I need to use a Win98 box.

For that, I need an mjpeg en/decoder. On the market I found three products:
PicVideo, MainConcept, and Morgan.

Which one is preferable?

Thank you very much

Michael

Exactly - but I find I can add an icon for Reply to List, right next to
the ordinary Reply-to - so I hope that seeing it regularly will make me
develop the habit of using it. That may be easier to do than
completely changing my way of doing it.

I do have my mail sorted into separate boxes for lists etc. Let's see
if my new regime works - and sorry to all for the wasted bandwidth.
