If you're running Linux/Unix, just add this entry to your /etc/aliases
 file:

 postmaster: /dev/null

This way you have a valid postmaster address, it's just redirected to the
 bit-bucket...

First, this is the first answer which _I_ see in the list and there were 2
private mails too. So please excuse, if I didn't read other statements. There
were a lot of problems because of the virus flood in the last days.
Mydomain.com was down and a lot of mails were rejected.

Ok, my machines use linux, but I don't want to download the spam or
virus-mails to move it to /dev/null. In the last 24hrs I got more than 500
viruses to my 2 usenet-adresses. But I have to mention, that I was interested
how much virusmails I would receive and how good my viruswall (Antivir,
f-prot) is. 20 of them were not recognized with the newest viruspatterns of
today.

Which tools can you use with linux to check if an email-adress exists?

[Mjpeg-users] postmaster check for writing to the list

2003-09-17 Thread Al Bogner
Today my email bounced, when I wrote with my old email-adress / subdomain,
where I removed the postmaster account, since there were spams to the
postmaster adress. Maybe a lot of you had problems too with 100s of spams in
the last days. So my question is: I know it is against RFC, but does it make
sense to check for the postmaster account of a domain, when writing to the
list? Spammers send spams to postmaster@ and for _me_ there is no need to
have a [EMAIL PROTECTED]

failure notice

550-Several RFCs state that you are required to have a postmaster
550-mailbox for each mail domain. This host does not accept mail
550-from domains whose servers reject the postmaster address.
550 Sender verify failed
Giving up on 66.35.250.206.
