Re: [Mjpeg-users] Is there a relation to PCI-graphic-adapters

2003-06-09 Thread Bernhard Praschinger
Hallo

I am going on to find out, why mpeg2enc crashes with my Asus A7N8X
 which uses a ATI Mach64VT PCI graphics-adapter

 I read in alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.asus:

 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
In 'Troubleshooting' on page 97 it says:-
This motherboard does not support PCI VGA cards due to an Nvidia
  chipset limitation

On page 36 amongst the POST error messages it says:-
POST message - System failed VGA test
Action - Install a PCI VGA card into one of the PCI slots, or an
AGP card into the AGP slot

People also mention that Win-systems shut down suddenly with
 PCI-cards.

So can you see a relation between mjepgtools and the drivers of a
 PCI-graphics-adapter?

Is it worth to try an AGP-graphics-adapter?
AGP adapters are usually very cheap. Just try it. Lookes like that this
is the best hins since quite some time.

I had a similair problem where the ATI Card was crashing the system
when you moved a window fast. I did never find out how fast you needed
to move it. But changing the card to a other brand (we had a Matrox G400
around) and the problem was solved. So it could solve your problem too.

About 99% I use my Athlon via ssh from a xterm, while the
 Athlon is in runlevel 3.
I'm not soure if it makes a difference.

auf hoffentlich bald,

Berni the Chaos of Woodquarter

Ok, I can use a G 100 for tests. Do I have to configure X for the
mjpegtools? The Athlon runs in runlevel 3. Probably this is a
stupid question, since runlevel 3 doesn't use X, but I want to be
sure, to do nothing wrong with my crazy system.
