[mkgmap-dev] Display name change
I last processed downloaded Geofabrik OSM data through mkgmap six months ago. Using the latest splitter and mkgmap .jar files and creating .img files from the split .osm.gz files and a .typ file, Command Prompt displays the following for each file it processes: "WARNING: Style uses tag 'display name' which is deprecated and will be removed soon. Please use the name tag 'mkgmap:display_name' instead.". I am unsure to what file(s) this refers. The mkgmap batch file I use contains the following instruction: "java -ea -Xmx1100m -jar mkgmap.jar --style-file=mystyle_nonrouting --draw-priority=28 --remove-short-arcs --gmapsupp -c template.args 1000A.TYP". I should be grateful for advice that will permit me to resolve this issue. ___ mkgmap-dev mailing list mkgmap-dev@lists.mkgmap.org.uk http://lists.mkgmap.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/mkgmap-dev
Re: [mkgmap-dev] Loading a relation of numerous unconnected sections to my GPSr
Andy, I thank you for your help. I saved relation 23309 as an .osm file, copied your relation details just as you presented them into the standard mkgmap relations file, created a new lines file with just what you presented plus a Garmin polyline code and resolution, created an appropriate .typ file and ran a mkgmap batch file based just upon those elements to create a gmapsupp.img. It worked perfectly! My requirement came just as I was wondering from other things I was reading how relations were incorporated with other mapsets into something that could be loaded to a GPSr. I could not have done it by myself, and I am constantly surprised at how few answers result from users' enquiries yet how often, too, just one answer is sufficient. Yet another piece of knowledge under my belt; OSM learning and achievement is never-ending thanks to people like you! Incidentally, when I type 'SomeoneElse' as an OSM user, it is not recognised. How do I find you? With regards, Bob ___ mkgmap-dev mailing list mkgmap-dev@lists.mkgmap.org.uk http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/mkgmap-dev
[mkgmap-dev] Loading a relation of numerous unconnected sections to my GPSr
I am walking parts of The Chiltern Way and, as I progress, adding members in JOSM to relation 23309. I should like to view this relation as a tracklog on my Legend HCx so that I can more easily fill in the missing parts. I cannot combine the ways in JOSM because there are numerous breaks. I can create a .gpx file but the sections are too numerous to transfer from Garmin MapSource or BaseCamp to my Legend. Ideally, I should like to combine the sections into one record, which I can do with my MapInfo software and, I daresay, QGIS (although I do not know how to do it in that particular software). However, it seems that once combined, the resulting record is not recognised as a polyline for me to be able export it as a .gpx file. I wonder if anyone can suggest a method that would get such a relation into internal memory on my Legend? I am not sure where to post this question. so I shall place it on the JOSM development list, too.___ mkgmap-dev mailing list mkgmap-dev@lists.mkgmap.org.uk http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/mkgmap-dev
[mkgmap-dev] Garmin feature codes
I am trying to understand the mysteries of Garmin feature codes. I am guided by the list that is in the cGPSmapper manual plus other sources, some of which have quite obscure codes, in creating my personal .typ file that is used in conjunction with mkgmap. Such codes are necessary in order to obtain greater variation in representation of, say, various land use features. Yet I cannot ascertain whether these codes are recognised by my Legend HCx until I upload the resultant gmapsupp.img, and often they are not recognised. Does this depend upon the individual GPS device or its firmware? Does anyone know of custom codes, particularly for polygons and polylines, that are usually recognised by Garmin devices? Re: [mkgmap-dev] Splitter and .pbf
I thank you all for your helpful responses. Last year, I created a log of my procedure to obtain Great Britain data from Geofabrik, split it, and make a gmapsupp.img for transfer to my Garmin Legend (my comprehension of how all of this works is close to zero!). Then, it seems, I could copy the splitter.jar and mkgmap.jar files from their original folders and place them in a new folder with everything else that was required, and the process ran perfectly. I do not update my data very often, and I had to be advised recently, as Steve writes, that the splitter.jar cannot be used alone. Am I right in thinking this must have been a change that took place in the intervening period? If so, and further to what Henning wrote, it might be useful for users like me to have such fundamental changes documented and highlighted, if that is possible. I do recognise and appreciate, however, the time that must already be spent. Bob ___ mkgmap-dev mailing list mkgmap-dev@lists.mkgmap.org.uk http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/mkgmap-dev
[mkgmap-dev] Splitter and .pbf
I was advised recently that I could use the much smaller .pbf file rather than .bz2 from Geofabrik, but that I had to use a particular splitter, in this case r161-3. This, I did. I wonder, though, how it is known what particular splitter version to use with, say, the next .pbf file I choose to use. I note, too, that the current splitter page displays r-170 only. I am sure it displayed more when I used it recenty, such as r161-3, for example, which I now find at http://89.16.174.14/detail/8.___ mkgmap-dev mailing list mkgmap-dev@lists.mkgmap.org.uk http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/mkgmap-dev
