[Mobile.AI] Motorola to price Moto E under Rs 10,000: Report

2014-05-06 Thread TS Negi
NEW DELHI: Motorola is hosting an event in New Delhi and London on May 13,
where it will launch a low-cost, rugged smartphone. While the name and features
of the upcoming Motorola smartphone have already been leaked, so far there has
been no word on its pricing.

The database of Zauba, a website that tracking goods imported in India, has
revealed that at least 1,300 units of Moto E have been brought to the domestic
market. The unit price of Moto E, according to this data, is Rs 6,330. This
suggests that Moto E is likely to be priced under Rs 10,000 even after local
taxes are added.

Price has been one of the key reasons behind Moto G's success in India. The
device offers decent hardware specifications and bloatware-free Android
software at Rs 12,499, making it a runaway hit in the Indian market.

Motorola will be hoping to repeat the success of Moto G with Moto E. The sub-Rs
10,000 segment of the Indian smartphone industry is growing at a fast clip and
is dominated by Indian manufacturers like Micromax, Lava and Karbonn. Nokia's
Lumia 520 and Samsung's Galaxy Star are also high sellers in this price range.

Moto E is said to have a 4.3-inch screen, and though the resolution has not
been confirmed yet, it is expected to have a 720p display. Other key
specifications of the device include 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 5MP
camera and 1,900mAh battery. The smartphone will have 4GB internal storage and
support for microSD cards, which is missing in both Moto G and Moto X.

Moto E will reportedly run on stock version of Android 4.4 (KitKat) and come in
single-as well as dual-sim variants; India is expected to get the dual-sim
variant of the model. The smartphone will come in black and white colour
options and have back covers in different hues; Zauba's data says that the
white variant has been imported to India.

Among the USPs of Moto E would be its ultra-thin body. Rumours say that the
smartphone would be just 6.2mm thick, making it slimmer than the likes of
iPhone 5S and Galaxy S4. The phrase Made to last in Motorola's invite
suggests that the handset will be able to withstand water and dust to an extent.

It remains to be see if Motorola sticks to its policy of selling the upcoming
Moto E phone exclusively via Flipkart, as it did with Moto G and Moto X. As
Motorola's corporate vice-president for EMEA and Apac, Magnus Ahlqvist recently
said that the company is in talks with key players in the retail chain industry
to sell its phones in retail stores.

Re: [Mobile.AI] Suggestions and experience about indian mobile brands

2014-05-06 Thread Aruni Sharma
It's better to go for brands like Samsung, Motorola etc. after-sales
service is a big issue for most of the indian brands. The next handset
to look forward to is the Moto E coming on 13th of this month.
